They were huge in the UK at the time. Lots of great songs of a similar ilk, though two of my favourites of theirs are ballads - ‘The Bitterest Pill’ and ‘English Rose’.

Aww thanks so much for reacting to the Jam again! Love them! Paul Weller hasn’t been much into social/political commentary in his music for the last several decades (one comes to mind, his cover of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On -live at the Greenwich Naval Academy version is amazing). Another Jam song you may like is Running on the Spot…or Ghosts. If you’re so inspired, check out his band that came after the Jam, The Style Council, the song Walls Come Tumbling Down is another socio-political one that is as relevant today as its release in 1985.

Very important band in the UK in the 1970,s /80,s but very English so maybe American audience did not get them at the time. Please try down in the tubestation next 😊

Seen them five times, amazing live , they started at school and when they left his dad started getting them gigs, he used the telephone box on the pavement outside their house live version is electric

The Jam were in America on tour when Going Underground went to No.1 in the UK, so they immediately flew back home on Concorde, to be on Top of the Pops as it was there first No.1 single. The had 4 UK No.1 singles, 3 of which entered at No.1, the other at No 3. Many people seem to forget the last one Beat Surrender which isn't the best but is still pretty good. The live version on KZfaq from a UK TV show called The Tube is well worth watching.
