This song came out during the band's creative peak, because of any of their songs had spiritual undertones, fans began to view them almost as Gods. This song was the band saying to those fans, we're not your guru ... we're just musicians.

"The Story in Your Eyes" is another of their high-energy gems.

the Mighty Moodies, a rare group brought together by divine intervention. they are rich in musical firsts and when the Beatles broke up, the Moodies were considered the number 1 group of the time. the bass player is considered one of the top ten most influencial bass players on the planet and the drummer invented the electronic drum kit. their lyrics are very meaningful

Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "Gemini Dream", "Your Wildest Dreams", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once.

Great song from a great group. These guys defined early Prog and Symphonic rock.

Agree. I am the same way with the music taking all my focus and only later think about the lyrics. Some songs, it has been decades before I realized the details of the story.

Can't miss with The Moodies. John Lodge wrote this gem. As good a writer as he is, Justin Hayward was even better. One of the best melodic songwriters of the era. Four great singers and five songwriters in this amazingly talented group. They were progressive without making you listen to 20-minute songs. They got to the point and did it majestically.

The thing that lead to them writing this song, Stan, was fans who wanted to bestowe messianic attributes to the band. Some were wanting band members to give them advice on life, or tell them the meaning of life, and the band was like, "Hey we just sing the songs." ☺☺ Go Now and The Story In Your Eyes, which somone suggested below, are two more of the ones that I love.

Written during the turmoil of the late 60's and early 70's. They helped define their time. Their music is unique, creative and always rich in meaning and depth. Other songs (picking from the over 200 that they did) could include, "Ride My See-Saw", 'Gemini Dream", "Tuesday Afternoon" (from one of the first concept albums "Days of Future Passed" which also has "Nights in White Satin"). This album chronicles the day (some consider it a metaphor for a life) of an ordinary person. You could also pick from another of their seven concept albums "To Our Children's Children's Children" who some called the first Science Fiction album. This was actually played by one of our astronauts in space. "Gypsy (From a Strange and Distant Time)" is a good choice from this album.
