I'm an old white woman and grew up listening to all the black singers from the 50's 60's... I have a 78 vinyl collection of over 50 albums. Makes my heart jump to see young folks finally hearing these irreplaceable groups of that time period.

Kathy here - I am a 68-year-old white woman, not that color matters, but this is the music my parents listened to, danced to, had parties in the house and took the furniture out to the garage and open up the living room for friends to dance. My dad would put on this album, let me stand on his feet and slow dance, before me and my sister had to go to bed. What memories this brings back. So glad to see the younger generation discover music from the "old" days! Yes, their harmonies were great, and they were one of the most popular bands in their day. From an old white guy living in a rural area, I completely agree with you that you need to do more reactions to black artists from the 50's - 80's. There must be 500 famous black artists with 1000 famous songs in 3 or 4 diff genre's of music during those 4 decades. Both black and white music was just incredible for those 4 decades.

Man I love old R&B/Motown music. I suggest you check out the Four Tops, The Miracles. Or Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Jimmy Ruffin. Too many great voices to pick a favorite.

Sam Cooke You Send Me is great. He had many hits and left his mark. He died young.

I was a teenager in the age of rock and roll. We danced to and cheered both black and white singers and groups. Bought their records. We didn’t care what color they were.

These singers, and many from Motown, are what helped start the Civil Rights movement. It goes to show how much influence music has on everyone.

My mom absolutely loves the Platters. I appreciate them and like their music. The helped pave the way for other talent down the road.

Old groups of the 50s 60 s were fantastic singers you could listen to this all day never ever getting tired of this sound. Beautiful people and entertainers!❤️❤️❤️

Most establishments had separate bathrooms for clientele and the kitchen staff (who were mostly people of color). Black artists that performed in these places were treated very poorly. The Platters came around just prior to the Civil Rights movement. A fabulously talented group who's popularity transcended race; which was a huge statement at that time about their talent.

This comes from the 1956 movie "Rock Around The Clock", the man introducing The Platters here is legendary disc jockey, and radio personality Alan Freed, who made several movies like this. Alan Freed is considered a very important person as far as integration,and breaking down racial barriers in music He was one of the first people to have black and white rhythm and blues ,and rock and roll musicians both on the same concert stage, and play them on his radio shows, although concert promoters like John Hammond, another legenary figure you should know, were doing this with jazz musicians in the 1930s. The Platters are a group who were very popular in their time, and sold millions of records all over the world, in their time, but are largely forgotten by younger audiences. Check out the second Platters group from the late 60s. A more soulful group, with only two original members. Recommeded song "With This Ring".

I've got 72 Summers on the books and I grew up with this music back in the day we listen to these song mostly on transistor radios the music wasn't black or white it was either good or wasn't good and the platters were one of the the best. I'm 67 years young and I'm loving all your reaction videos. I've listened to this music from my teens and still do now. I have original albums of all these singers 60+ albums and play them regularly, this was the era of live music no auto tune when they were on stage they had to bring it on and they did. You have an old soul and a beautiful smile keep on listening.

Twon, great reaction to A Classic Group that will last forever. They had so many great songs you can react to. Just to put a little perspective on the environment you noticed, these guys were playing to our parents in this video but to the kids at that time like myself they were changing the way we saw things because they were so cool. The great Tony Williams and The Platters. Tony was easily one of the 4 or 5 great pop/rock voices of the 50's and into the 60's. The others were Jackie Wilson (try him doing the live black and white version of "To Be Loved" and "Lonely Teardrops"), Sam Cooke, the first "soul" singer (try him doing "You Send Me", "Bring It On Home To Me", and "A Change Is Going To Come") and Clyde McPhatter (try "Lovers Question", and as the original singer of The Platters, "Treasure Of Love). As for more Tony Williams listen to "My Prayer" and "The Great Pretender". Yes, all of these performers were before The Righteous Brothers and all of these guys were their idols. The Man who introduces them is Alan Freed who organized the first rock and roll shows in history. The music Freed played was all call rhythm and blues at the time. Freed (although disputed), then created the term rock and roll, after many white people complained about their youngsters listening to this music and began arresting black performers after shows, assaulting them, confiscating their money and raiding R&B shows around the country. The phrase rock and roll, used by black people, was in reference to the sex act, which must have been very funny to black performers at the time. For a performance like this black performers had to enter through the back, usually through the kitchen, perform, and exit the way they entered. Black people were not allowed to use the bathrooms, eat at the tables, socialize, or exit through the front door. Black performers were occasionally allowed a meal in the kitchen, but only occasionally. But just look at the fit on everyone onstage. It's all fire.

When your heart is in music or any kind of performance Nothing will stop you. Not even racism. This group was always amazing. I still have their original albums.

Both of my parents were massive Doo-Wop fans when it began and still are. They raised me on so many great Doo-Wop groups and no matter how many times I listen to them, they still make me swoon. There's so many other groups you should check out from that genre. The Platters, The Flamingos, The Coasters, The Contours, Del-Vikings, Five Sarins, The Monotones, and sooooo many more!

Yes, black performers came in through the back door, could not use any facilities, and though they were loved, it was as entertainment, not necessarily as human beings. Just remember, we're talking about clubs not in the deep south, but in Hollywood, New York, Chicago, and every other big city. This movie wasn't shot in Podunk, Georgia or Bug Tussle, Mississippi. Thank goodness this all changed when I was young. It was tough times, but hard times make strong men and women and strong men and women make good times. Unfortunately, good times make weak men and women, and weak men and women again make hard times. Be strong, young man. Don't go down the rabbit hole of resenting the past. The past is what made the future you're now living. Keep making it better.

The movie Green Book 📗 is a true story about a Black maestro on the piano who chose to do a tour into the "deep south" and hires an Italian bouncer to be his driver/bodyguard. I don't want to give much away, but it garnished BEST PICTURE from the Oscar's a few years back -- one rare choice that I agreed was deserved.
