I saw your previous reaction to The Righteous Brothers. I'm white and I don't think your comments were racist. They were honest. I grew up during the Motown period and black artists had a distinctive sound that we called Soul. The Righteous Brothers actually got their name from fellow performers who were black who told them "You're righteous, brothers!" A real compliment back then. I think people can be too touchy about this. It's important to be careful not to offend, but I think we need to be a little more tolerant of each other's differences, including figures of speech and expression. Especially when they are clearly innocent and not meant to be offensive.

I am a white lady who is 77 years old. I clearly recall the first time that the Righteous Brothers were being played on radio. Back then, new artists were played at first on radio. Then when their popularity soared, they were seen on television and concerts and record album sleeves. When we first heard them, all of us, of every color or nationality or cultural background assumed they were black gentlemen. Theis was not racist. We simply had never heard white gentlemen produce that beautiful sound. Then when we finally saw them, everyone was astounded. I’m a 57-year old white guy. I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s listening to radio and tapes. CD’s in the 90’s and in the early 2,000’s my wife and I were picking songs on I-tunes on our computer when we came across the Righteous Brothers and saw their picture. We both immediately looked at each other and said the exact same thing as you, “THEY ARE WHITE.”😮

Before they were the Righteous Brothers they appeared in a club that was mostly people of color patrons. After they finished their song a person in the audience yelled out, that was righteous, brothers. They changed their name and were considered blue eyed sole.

They would take turns doing solos every once in awhile. They flipped a coin on which one of them would get to sing this and Bobby won. Bill played the piano for it. Bill joked and said if he knew this was going to become so popular he would have hired a better piano player to do it justice.
