The Rolling Stones are considered the bad boys of rock & roll. I grew up with their early stuff. My favorite era of The Rolling Stones is from the 60's British Invasion. I loved the "Flowers" album. They had a lot of great early hits such as "Paint It Black", "Get Off Of My Cloud", "Ruby Tuesday", "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Satisfaction", "Honky Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Tumbling Dice", "Brown Sugar" etc.

Mick and Keith were literally born in the cross fire of the hurricanes. They were born in 1943 during the second bombing of London during WWII, a hurricane was a type of British fighter. The song is about growing up in the incredibly harsh conditions in London/England at the end of the war. The toothless breaded hag refers to England, toothless (losing the empire), and the rest a cross between John Bull and rule Britannia. London was wrecked, bankrupt and bleak that’s the abuse. Rock and Roll brought “technicolor “ FYI Jack was a gardener who started early (getting a jump on, which is an old expression)startling Mick and Keith. Love your reactions ❤

Brilliant commentary! I have tried to explain to people the lyrics are about overcoming adversity. You provided great comtext for the lyrics. To me it is the quinessential rock song from the quineesential rock band.

My favorite song by the Rolling Stones. Yes there was a movie "Jumping Jack Flash" staring Whoopi Goldberg and she had to figure out clues from the song Jumping Jack Flash.☮️ ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

This song was recorded in March 1968, released in both mono and stereo, but if you listen Hot Rocks 1964-1971, the single Jumpin Jack Flash is in stereo format, released by Decca Records in UK and by London Records in US!

This was the track that marked the beginning of the imperial phase of the Stones when they put aside their wasted 1967 when they were musically mostly following (their friends) the Beatles in their psychedelic phase, and instead marked out their own territory of updating the blues, starting with this and Beggars Banquet, followed by their three greatest albums. I remember hearing it for the first time on morning radio in the U.K. in 1968 and immediately thinking that it was already their greatest single...

There was a movie of the sane name, no connection. And back then, corporal punishment was part of parenting, & not considered child abuse. Great song, enjoy your reactions. ✌️❤️🎶⚡️

You are correct. There was a movie from the 80 called Jumpin Jack Flash that starred Whoopi Goldberg. This version of the song was included in the movie, along with a cover from Aretha Franklin.

The story goes that Mick Jagger was at Keith Richards house writing songs and they both nodded off, suddenly they heard a noise from outside which startled them and Mick was like “What the hell was that?” And Keith said that it was his gardener “Jumping Jack” from there it morphed into Jumping Jack Flash and then it’s a gas ,gas, gas. And hence they created an amazing song.

Stayed till the end 'cause it's one of my fav Stones tunes! You are TOO subdued in your reactions - I was boppin' and singing along the whole time! Yes, the movie starred Whoopie when she was still young and fun, but you DO know how to Google right??🤪

Yes Jumping Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg is a movie. It’s sort of a spy based movie and the song is linked to the story.

I was young when this song came out and very naive, l didn't pay much attention to lyrics, but loved the song. I agree that it sounds like abuse, severe abuse. Who knows if he's singing about personal experiences. Because of things I've heard about recently, it even sounds like SRA.

The movie was horrible. This song was recorded in 1968 with the original line-up of founder, Brian Jones (guitar), Keith Richards (guitar), Mick Jagger (vocal) and Charlie Watts (drums). Bill Wyman (the bass player) didn't play bass on this song but he did play the organ. Keith Richard played the bass. Producer Jimmy Miller shimmied the maracas. The flip side to the single was The Rolling Stones' "adieu" to the Flower Power Era, "Child Of The Moon", one of their loveliest songs and one I don't think they have ever played live.

No, the song was not from the movie. The song was used in the movie. The movie was from the mid to late '80's, but the song was released in May 1968.

Mick was just putting outrageous words together to make a great rock tune - we weren't thinking seriously about 'abuse', it was a fun word mix, about a hypothetical individual!😝 Boomers were TEENAGERS then, and the Stones were in their early 20's!😂
