The more you listen to their music the more you'll notice their often depressing yet hilarious lyrical content paired with gorgeous as hell music 😂

"Bigmouth" is Morrissey himself (the singer and songwriter). The song is about his tendency to publicly say crackpot stuff off the cuff, and then be surprised when it generates controversy. "Sweetness" is his ironic euphemism for the media.

RIP Andy Rouke. His basslines were essential to the band. They all played their part, but I always loved the bass.

Morrisey picked up where Bryan Ferry from Roxy Music left off; his lyrics were often sweeping romantic statements steeped in insincerity and cynicism, but he was more subtle.Later on, Ferry became more straightforward and direct, but many of the early albums were very tongue in cheek. If you listen to interviews, you learn that Morrisey isn't afraid to say what he means; he's not hesitant to tell even a loved one that they are behaving like a tw#t,- or to tell an ex that he was temporarily insane by not seeing that they are a terrible person. He is the "Bigmouth",- ruining pretense with brutal honesty.

"Big Mouth Strikes Again" was one of the singles from The Smiths third studio album The Queen Is Dead released in 1986. As with many of their songs the instrumentals are the lure while the lyrics are the fodder. Morrissey, the band's singer and lyricist, often infused them with an affect for dramatic effect. Joan of Arc with a Walkman and a hearing aid? The anachronism seems almost placed to emphasize the lack of seriousness to the violent intent the singer is now apologizing for. Morrissey handles all the vocals on this song, with his voice piped through effects on some of them. Was "Bigmouth" a real person? I don't know. Morrisey sometimes wrote songs about characters in movies and books and plays without making the references clear. For example, "This Night Has Opened My Eyes", from their Hatful of Hollow compilation album, was inspired by A Taste of Honey, a play written by Shelagh Delaney which was turned into an award winning film in 1961. The theme song, "A Taste of Honey", was covered by The Beatles and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass took their instrumental version of the song to the tops of the charts in 1965. "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" features a super smooth bass line. Check it out when you can. The band's bass player, Andy Rourke, passed away last year from cancer aged 59.

I always assumed he was Bigmouth but I'm not 100% sure.

I think he wrote this about the trashy cheap English newspapers (rags, as we call them) that would rip into him nastily. At least that’s what I think I read once.

Morrissey was taking the mickey out of the music press and how they misrepresented everything he said. Great times, I was a teenager at the time.

Morrissey has a dark sense of humor, it's hard to describe but the more you listen, the more get it. It's like watching a movie that is dark comedy, the subject matter is messed up but the way it's presented makes you laugh. In this song my interpretation is he is talking about himself and the mistakes he makes when he opens up his but mouth, lol. We've all been there I think.

This song is like a cynical apologies to Morrisey's harsh critics to Margart Tatcher's reforms. Joan of Arch is a symbol of this rebelious unconformity with the system and the image of her being burned with a walkman or hearing aid is like he saying she would make fun of public opinion critics towards him, that's the reason he say "and now I know how Joan of Arch felt...".

I think it kind of represents Morrisey … or characters like him. An unconformist , the sole voice that is heard that irritates the majority on their collective opinion on some matter. Maybe even Trump ! 😂

You did it wrong You should not have stopped and pulled up lyrics for the music . It’s a song, not a book. You don’t need to know the lyrics to enjoy a song . A long time ago when they use to write great music, they used to play it on the radio, and people heard the music and judged it according to what it sounded like. The radio stations did NOT read the lyrics out before playing the music. Songs are about the feeling you get when you listen to it, not the words on paper. If somebody served you a plate of food, the secret to enjoying it wouldn’t be asking for the recipe in the middle of eating it.
