There wouldn't be one without the other, If this song had no MTV video, it would not have been as big of a hit, since MTV, and Much Music in Canada ,was not about the quality of music, just as long as the video was good is all that mattered. that is why ''music'' today isn't worth shit, the only decent music out there now isn't well-known because... you guessed it... no videos!! MuchMusic and MTV were the worst things to happened to music..

He literally started the song with a solo, played solo in the middle of the song that sounded like 2 solos and ended the song with a solo ._. The smoking and drinking would be factors for sure. But he used a metal pick that he held in his mouth instead of throwing it away and taking a new one. His home studio the way it was wired, it was a static electricity haven. And he spent so much of his life in there.

I almost got to go to the ‘Counter Parts’ in 94.. however I got sick!🤬 It was at the now shut down, Orlando Arena. They had a pre concert party signings etc at Jani Lane’s Rip “Sunset Strip.” I’m sure you know about all of those. Probably went to them as well. Fun Fact , Geddy Lee real name is Gary Lee Weinrib , his mother was Polish and when she called him Gary it came out as Geddy and it stuck plus Neil , RIP , was not their first drummer it was John Rutsy who only played on their first album , quit due to diabete issues that he died from in 2008 from heart failure . And Neils story is so tragic , lost his daughter in a car accident , his wife dies 2 years later from cancer , remarries has another daughter and now he is gone . Have a great day ..

In the early 80's I was at the Whiskey A-GO GO in Hollywood attending a punk rock show (my choice of music at the time). When the show was over and I was heading towards the exit and I heard people saying "Van Halen sucks" and more expletives that I don't want to say here. The isle to the exit turned right. The was a round booth with David Lee Roth sitting with a smoking hot chick on each side of him. He snapped his fingers on his right hand and made a V with his fingers. The girl on the right placed a cigarette between the V. He then moved his hand to the front of the girl on his left and she lit it. A true rock star moment.

Growing up in the 70's was a blast. Van Halen ruled the 70s and 80s. They were full of energy and party hard. Saw them several time in concert with Roth and Sammy. Loved both eras. I always tell people that the Roth era music was about sex and having fun, organically raw. Just epic. The Sammy era music was motivational and up beat, talked about love. Just awesome. One of the things that sets Eddie apart from most of his peers is his instrumental approach. The solos are only a relatively small part of it. His rhythm and timing, and musical phrasing and arrangement, are the meat of his music. Without all of that, the solos wouldn't exist and Van Halen music wouldn't work. Try tuning your ear to hear what's going on behind the vocals: and all the guitar, bass, and drums, as well as keyboards. Aside from the drums pretty much all of the music is played and/or arranged by Eddie.

The greatest thing about Eddie’s solos was that he didn’t write them out. They were very organic and what you hear is always his first take of the solo. He is also one of the VERY FEW guitarists that play riffs and not just cords. Listening to his playing you hear riffs and so it is always more than just a bunch of cords to the song. He is also one of the best lead/rhythm guitarist ever! This one dropped in my senior year and it was the BEST!

First concert the summer before I went into 8th grade - epic! Great week for concerts in Houston- Van Halen had 3 sold out shows and a few days prior Prince did the same thing on the Purple Rain tour- 1984- what a year! You guys should really just start with Van Halen I album and work your way through- total powerhouse of good times

Early VH has David Lee Roth on lead vocals. Watch "Mean Street" " Unchained" "Dance the night away" Later VH has Sammy Hagar on lead vocals. SO much from both!!!!

This is the album that turned me into a Van Halen fan at 13 years old. Still my favorite band of all time. By the way, the guitar he used in that video just sold for nearly 4 million dollars.
