Love your reaction! “You can’t take anything in life too seriously.” YES! And THAT was a young Van Halen with Roth. These guys were FUN while being incredible musicians. The ultimate party band. Also, I was 11 when this video was ALL OVER MTV. Me and my friends were all about it, of course! And this shows the difference between the sense of humor of the 80s compared to now. Funny to hear you compliment David Lee Roth’s vocals. Critics thought he was a terrible singer and that Sammy Hagar was a huge upgrade. I agree with you. Diamond Dave has a fantastic voice and his singing style fits the band perfectly.

Dave was at his peak on Fair Warning...there is no way that Sammy could have sang those songs with the same oomph that a younger David had...and I severely disagree that Van Halen "wasn't about the vocals". Without DLR's unreal charisma and stage presence on top of his extremely catchy and unique vocals, Van Halen would have never ended up 'VAN HALEN'...please never diminish David's contribution...
@rickwelch8464
@rickwelch8464 Жыл бұрын
@@johnjohn37371 They got rid of him and never missed a beat. Sure he was fun. Anyone could be the lead singer and they'd have been successful. The brilliance was always in the music. DLR superfans can't be convinced but it doesn't make it inaccurate.
@johnjohn37371
@johnjohn37371 Жыл бұрын
@@rickwelch8464 Well, they got rid of him at their height...and he went on to have success as well. I would suggest that their music changed greatly. Look, I'm a Sammy Hagar fan...I just hate it when people diminish Roth's contributions...there is no chance "just anyone" could have took his place...you obviously aren't old enough to have seen them live in the very early eighties...he was a unicorn that got copied over and over again. I consider his actions and personality after 1986 or so nearly intolerable, but that has nothing to do with his early brilliance. Those songs without his shrill cries and cadences would be sorely diminished...don't have to love him, but you need to recognize him...

It was such a blast growing up in the 70's and 80's and listening and watching all the great bands from those era's. I tell people now a days, that they just don't know what real music is. They have no idea what these bands could do. These guys could play and sing their asses off. And they didn't need no autotuning. I feel so lucky I got to see them.

I agree to a certain point… I’m in my late 50’s… I would say its more likely that you don’t know what rock and metal bands can do today either…? I felt the same as you for a long time - based on rock radio alone….but radio is a poor reflection of the state of heavy melodic guitar based music. There is alot of great guitar based rock being made today and for the last 20 yrs, but it doesn’t get near the same mainstream exposure that rock got in the 80’s and 90’s. Nothing to do with the quality. It simply fell out of ‘fashion.’ Personally, I’m tired of alot of ‘classic’ rock, because they get played too much - over alot of quality stuff now -mostly because of nostalgia.

I went to a religious school from 2nd through 8th grade. I NEVER heard stuff like this. It was a REVELATION!!! How can these seemingly random sounds make me feel this good? To this day, Van Halen, (NOT Van Hagar), makes me feel a happiness no other music can offer... (Although, Lady Gaga singing duets with Tony Bennett is close... in a completely different way.)

She was a 70's long haired disco queen. Despite all the boys getting excited, we still made her cry on her first day. We couldn't help it we were ten year old kids. Fast forward six years and my kid sister said she was still crying but also banging her head against the chalk board in frustration. But honestly she was not only pretty she was super nice. I haven't seen this in sooo long. Thanks for checking it out! Speaking of controversy.... In 1989, Cher released an MV for "If I Could Turn Back Time." She asked the US Navy for equipment for the shoot. She told them it was a "modest little video about a sailor who gets a "Dear John" letter aboard a ship". Well, that changed at the last minute when Cher saw the guns. 😆 After the video was released, the Navy commented on "an unanticipated change during the final stages of production. And it produced an unintended result, in retrospect." You'll see why. 😁"If I Could Turn Back Time" - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9RjdMJerbiqlpc.html Also, the kid on the guitar is her son. It's not just some random kid. 😆

Hi Britt, normally you see me for your 4th Impact reactions, but I seen you were doing one of my favorite Van Halen songs i thought I'd chime in. These guys never took themselves seriously at all, as evidenced by this video. So the band was founded by Eddie (Lead Guitar) and Alex (Drummer) Van Halen, the other members at this time; Nichael Anthony (Bass Guitar) and David Lee Roth (Lead Singer), David Lee Roth left the band in 1985 when Sammy Hagar took over as Lead Singer. These guys were ahead of the game for the hair band era come onto the scene back in 78 where their debut album took the world by storm, I know, I bought the album asap, not one bad song on the album! So yes, this was released in 1984, the FCC and apparently the American public were cool with this kind of behavior, I never had a problem with it, I mean it did feature hot babes.😂🤣 It was released during MTv's heyday, you know, back when they actually played Music Videos all day and all night! I still remember the very first Music Video ever played on air, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, well thank God it didn't actually kill radio. I was in my late teens the year it came out, so it was very relevent to my and my friends. David Lee Roth went on to a solo career that never went anywhere, he had a couple songs that did ok, but nothing great, I think there was rumors about how he would rejoin the band, but that would never have happened, since he was such a, (if you will pardon the expression) "Dick". But Van Halen went on for years afterward and produced a lot of great music. Great seeing you miss Britt, take care.

I was in 6th and had a huge crush on my teacher in 1984. Needless to say, this instantly became my favorite song/video that year. The ‘80s was such a great time, everything was fun.

Growing up in Kansas, there was no shortage of lovely teachers. My first "hot for teacher" moment happened in kindergarten. Miss Little, you were fabulous... I still remember the cookies and drinking milk straight out of the carton. ;)

To me, this is the greatest rock video of all time! It is from their album "1984" which was released that year, and is quintessential eighties.....and that ending with the updates is a parody of something that many movies from the 1980s did.

The look on your face when the band kicks in (it's around the 2 minute mark) just made my day. Thank you! And you are correct, there's no chance this video could be made today. Let alone the lyrics! Things were a lot more fun back in the day.

The record company "suggested" that they added some dance routine in the video due to a lot of videos at the time having them. So they added the suited disco ball sequences.

The teacher was played by Lillian Muller, who was Playboy's Playmate of the Year in (I think) 1975. She was breathtakingly beautiful well into her 40s. According to VH1's "pop up video" in the 90s, the kids in the video all displayed some behavioral issues after this was released. Cuz rock and roll, I guess.

Ms. Kollona, 8th grade. From the 2nd day of school for about 3 weeks afterward, her homeroom quadrupled in size by guys who weren't supposed to be there. Turns out she had appeared in Playboy magazine, and when a kid brought in a copy, she ran from the room in tears and immediately quit her job at school.

When I was in Jr-Sr High School we had two types of teachers. 1. They were starting out when my mom was in school and nearing retirement. 2. They were just out of college and only 4 to 6 years older than the seniors. You better believe that a lot of the students planned the school classes off of who was teaching the class. By the time my brother came through five years after me all the old teachers were gone.

"ON FIRE" is also a Van Halen song. React to it. BTW, Singer David Lee Roth is a baritone range vocalist. His high notes are falsetto, not soprano. I'm a heavy metal musician for the last 30 years. Also, this song came out in 1984, My late father, John Hughes, put out Breakfast Club in 1986. Dad did enjoy this music video....those long tables are the downtown public library in Los Angeles... the school is John Marshall High School in Los Feliz.
