My man, you must listen to Astral Weeks, it's a masterpiece! The recording of it has been mythologized. The session musicians all had backgrounds in jazz (Richard Davis, Jay Berliner, Connie Kay, Warren Smith), and they said that the only instruction that Morrison gave them was "play what you feel". Years ago, I bought Moondance and instantly loved it, but then a week later I bought Astral Weeks, and Moondance collected dust while I listened to Astral Weeks constantly, no skips.

This is one of my favorite Van songs. This is the first cut on the album St. Dominic's Preview , my favorite Van Morrison album. And the title track is just as good!

Thanks for this JK Clark! I’ve loved this song for 50 years. I got to see Van M in Boston in the late 70’s. He was amazing. Thanks JK and Harri 🌺✌️

This is why they call Van The Celtic Soul Man. It became a Top 5 hit in 1992 when Dexy's Midnight Runners (Come On Eileen) covered it, remarkably reaching 50 places higher on the charts than the original single by Van in Summer 1972! Thanks JK and Harri.

Dexy's midnight runners once performed this on Top Of The Pop's and instead of a photo of Jackie Wilson, the backdrop featured an enlarged photo of Jockey Wilson, who was a famous darts player of the era !!!!

@@jameswiglesworth5004 Maybe it's Kevin Rowland's West Midlands accent combined with trying to sound like General Norman of Chairman of the Board?

Excellent song to react to, Harri! The first LP I ever bought, 50 years ago, and I still own it. Whole album is great and made me a Van fan. He can be a bit of an ass live. So good but such a diva. One concert did a 45 minute set with his back to the audience. Another he walked off stage after 30 minutes because he hated the acoustics in the theater. But I still go see him because he is that good. Cheers!

I have long thought Van Morrison is a musical genius. His arrangements are fantastic! He used some amazing studio musicians. I have tons of Van's albums. There's something to like about almost all of them. Go down the rabbit hole with Morrison's music....

Great song that is not reacted to very often. Van Morrison's recording career spans nearly seven decades. In the mid 60's he was in the band "THEM" & their biggest hits were "Gloria", "Baby Please Don't Go", "Here Comes The Night" & "Mystic Eyes". Van Morrison later went solo & has had tons of hits such as "It Stoned Me", "Have I Told You Lately", "Crazy Love", "Days Like This", "Someone Like You" etc.

One of his best songs however it might not even the best song on the masterpiece that is the album Saint Dominic's Preview.

This is a joyful uplifting song by Van from his "Saints Dominic Review" album from 1972. Jacky was a great influence of Van's, the music and lyrics inspired mentioning Reet Petite quoted in this song. The opening lines set the tone for this song, the lyrics simple but powerful conveying the joy and beauty of being in love. This is a classic ode to love that has transcended generations. Van's vocals are so oozing with the great appreciation of true love and the beautiful backing instruments heighten this song to a absolute love in. Wilson's music helped to break down cultural barriers and promoted understanding and acceptance between different groups of people. His influence can be heard in works of countless musicians and artists. Wonderful song. Great reaction Harri, even your hair was dancing. Lol Thanks Harri and JkClark. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I am a huge fan of both Van Morrison and Jackie Wilson, so I always liked this song. (BTW, this was featured in the movie "Belfast" so may sound familiar if you saw it) The first line of this song mentions Jackie Wilson's first big hit "Reet Petite". That would be a good song for you to react to. So much fun!

And, of course, Berry Gordy, founder of Motown, wrote Reet Petite.

I’ve always said the opening salvo of “dee dee dee dee dah” would be the best ever song to blare over the sound system of any sports stadium during time outs or intermissions. Think about it 🤔 Van is the man, having been a fan forever, and seeing him live in the 70s, 80s, & 90s, each time touching so many different parts of his catalogue. One of my favorites is his semi autobiographical “Cleaning Windows” gives a glimpse into a young man in the late 50s, early 60s, before fame struck. Also shows his brilliance in lyrical chops, and musicality 👍
