Actually they are not Kpop or Jpop. They are Xpop.They are a global girl group.

I'm old skool and XG are my ride or die. The talent & charisma these young queens have is just insane. There is no one out there like them. Elite rapline, elite choreo/dance crew, elite vocals. Left Right & Shooting Star both 10/10 either could be SOTY. XG isn't actually kpop or jpop they are just a R&B/Pop/HipHop global girl group. The introduction video to their long awaited documentary dropped yesterday on their channel called "Xtra Xtra" that explains the entire unique concept behind XG. XG's producer is a former kpop idol from back in the day. You should really check out XG's MOVE series. It is FIRE. XG MOVE #3 is insane. Also XG will be performing at KCON Japan and 88rising's HITC Festival in N.Y. both are in May just a week apart. It i will be their first time ever performing in Japan and the U.S.

Like any genre there are particular conventions that separate K-POP and J-POP, and the Western Pop music with how it presents itself, aesthetics and the sound itself. XG may be technically considered as JPOP as they are from Japan, but they are heavily inspired by American Pop music (although it is common for KPOP to merge genres) and uses the KPOP aesthetics and presentation, even the way they merge genres can be attributed to KPOP. This is just my own observation, I know there are other people who are more knowledgeable about this.

XG are fire, and they are so so young- I can't even begin to imagine what a fruitful career they'll likely have ahead of them. Another thing...this is not XG related, but more about other South Korean artists I think you guys would also appreciate: I'm so surprised nobody has recommended delving into the K-Rap scene! Besides the amazing standout idol rappers that you've been reacting to (there are more outstanding idol rappers too), there is also a long list of rappers who are solo artists and are generally from smaller, more rap/hiphop focused labels. There's also a good video series called Dingo Killing Verse, where rappers spit a medley of verses from some of their tracks live...back-to-back. It's a super cool display of their technical abilities and also gives you a small taste of a handful of their songs and given that the playlist has over 100 videos in it... well you get the idea, the K-Rap industry is diverse and full of talent, a lot of it underground or just less appreciated in the mainstream. XG is an international JAPANESE girl group XGALX brought these girls up through a program similar to the KOREAN popular format with training and classes at a young age Cocona started at 11. We didn't actually see her till that viral Tiktok at 15. They came up through the Kpop talent circuit doing talent shows and such. This is why people consider them sometimes as a kpop group.

They’re X-Pop!!!!

They don’t consider themselves necessarily kpop. But their producers original idea was to debut as kpop artists but now more as an international group, but they actually promote as most kpop idols do in Korea. Their producer was a kpop idol himself, so the inspiration is very clear. So I don’t think the kpop reference is irrelevant at all.

Calling them kpop is not necessarily wrong, though not exactly right, either. They’re not quite jpop either. They’re a Japanese group, but based in Korea and working and promoting within the kpop industry. But they bill themselves as a global hip hop/r&b group. It’s hard to succinctly pin them down. So just enjoy 😀
