Love you two and Dusty Springfield is/was a legend in the UK. She has many hits here to choose from. Sadly she died on 2 March 1999 aged only 59 from breast cancer.

This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). Her most famous song is "Son Of A Preacher Man" but she had a lot of hits such as "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "Wishin' & Hopin' ", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.

This was originally an Italian song from 1965 by Pino Donaggio called “Io che non vivo( senza te)” that is “I who don’t live without you” which was a huge hit. Dusty was in the audience at the 1965 Sanremo Italian music festival(which is still being held annually) when Pino sang it and she fell in love with the song even though she didn’t understand the Italian lyrics and she had a friend write some English lyrics to the melody. The rest is history!

Mary ( Dusty was stage name) was incredibly shy and suffered stage fright before every performance, she was also very short sighted and refused to wear glasses as not being able to see the crowd properly was a positive for her nerves

Asia and BJ so great to see you getting into Dusty. She was such a huge star from the early to late 1960s, she even had her own TV show in the UK. She was also a guest on Ed Sullivan and all the US music shows. In the studio was one thing but live, she just laid them in the aisles with that voice and the attitude. Viva Dusty !!!

Baby Dolls!! This is Dusty's biggest fan! (So I say! )They have a youtube video of her live with this song- she's fabulous! She cuts her eyes at her backup singers once when one was off key or something! It's so cool! That SOUND was the "wall of sound" developed by Phil Spector (who was married to the great Ronnie Spector -The "Ronnie" from Eddie Money's song, Take Me Home Tonight". He sings say"Just Like Ronnie say, Be My Little Baby". That was HER biggest hit. Phil Spector went crazy and killed someone in his old age so Ronnie was smart to get away from him. Dusty's live song is under Dusty Springfield- You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. She looks GREAT in this one! Please review that one for me!😘😘

This song was recorded in the stairwell at the Phillips studio in London to get the acoustic she wanted. She also recorded in the loos to get better ambience 😅 Try her cover of 'You Don't Own Me’, great vocals. Pretty much everything she recorded was the definitive version.

@@Nighthawk-kg5yn There are Dusty Springfield sites for die hard fans where this stuff circulates. I think this is quite well known. There's a BBC interview in the 90s where Dusty says that I' Close My Eyes and Count to Ten' was recorded in the ladies loos at the Phillips studios at dawn, after an all night session, and the cleaner came in clanking buckets. She also used to forget lyrics and would write them on her hands and arms as too short sighted to read cue cards. You can see her clearly reading from her hand during BBC live shows and not missing a beat. Lulu talked about this in an interview too. Dusty did her own recordings mostly, and should have been credited as a producer. She knew the sounds she wanted, a perfectionist, and she demanded the best from musicians around her. Early girl power! Dusty was a bit crazy really and super talented!

Dusty( Mary Katherine O'Brien)was one of the greatest singers ever. Was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing. Very many good songs, I only Wanna be With You, A Brand New Me, Wishing and Hoping As Linda Ronstadt did covers as good or better than the original singer. Am I the Same Girl, You don't Own Me, Anyone who had a Heart.

This is a great study in vocal restraint and control. Less is often more. You don't have to do every vocal exorcise you know and throw the kitchen sink into every song. You know the power is there and its controlled. Professional singing.

I think, as a boy in London in the early 60s, Dusty and Shirley Bassey were my dream ladies. Dusty came from West London and was extremely popular and highly-respected at the time.

Dusty was a real badass. She was openly Bi, leaning strongly towards Lesbian......IN THE 1960'S! She was brave, trust me, I was around back then and that kind of stuff was swept under the welcome mat! Of course, the rest of us were busy with burning bras, concussion due to knockin' on that glass ceiling with our hard heads, civil rights, the sexual revolution, being allowed to open a bank account without your father or husband signing for it. We had to wait until 1971 or 1972 for that one. And of course, the assassinations, JFK IN 63, MLK and Bobby Kennedy in 68. Anyway, we were pretty focused in a lot of directions, but that didn't take away any of the guts and bravery it took, every step, every day!

This British female artist had so much soul, and her voice was top notch. She died a couple years ago I think. I was a little kid in the mid 60s when Dusty was on top of the music world. Dusty toured South Africa in 1964 and was the first international artist to challenge the apartheid regime. She had it written into her contract that she would only sing to mixed audiences and stood by that. The South African authorities deported her as a result. It was a huge deal in the news. As she walked across the tarmac to the waiting plane, the black airport ground staff formed a guard of honour and doffed their caps to her. She was fierce!
