Frankfurt is a very good solo. Neil described it as well-executed but, the solo in Rio was truly inspired. The band had never been to South or Central America and did not realize the affection the people had for their music. It truly energized the guys and brought out the best in their playing. You can truly feel the emotion between the band and the audience.

The footage is from rio , but a week before the played in São Paulo and for these shows they played some songs they didn’t use to play anymore (like the trees etc), because this one was the first time of Rush in Brazil and in the south hemisphere . 🙌🏻❤️

Welcome to the 40 year experience of Rush and this was filmed when they were in their late 50s maybe early 60s. Not only are they masters of their instruments but Neil (the drummer) wrote some of the most creative and insightful lyrics anywhere. Check it all out early Proto-psychodelic/prog/metal, 2112 is a whole topic of itself, the golden days of late 70s & early 80s (Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight & La Villa Strangiato), the under appreciated techno/keyboard phase. All the way to their final release with the amazing & beautiful "The Garden" Enjoy!

Hey youngsters, I’m 62 yrs old and my two all time favorite bands are Rush and Nightwish. Rush are three of the most talented rock musicians; recently passed percussionist Neal Peart (check out drum solo at Frankfurt), bass, keyboards, and vocalist, Geddy Lee, and least appreciated, but masterful guitarist Alex Lifeson. Performed over six different decades I believe.

Ken I am also 62 and my favorite 2 bands are also Rush and Nightwish. I have been intensely into Rush since 1974. I haven't felt that way about a band till I was recently introduced to Nightwish. Even though their music is different the path that Nightwish is on is very similar to Rush. Vastly talented. They keep evolving Musically. Intense fan base that grows through word of mouth. Inexplicable lack of mainstream airplay.

Louis Zagone , exactly !!! I found Rush in 1976, my first year of college. The two bands seem to have paralleling careers. Neither foreign (to America) band seem to be concerned with American radio playtime. Both make music for music’s potential sake rather than fitting within the radio’s 3.5 minute time slots between the all important advertising. Geddy Lee once said, “The popular phrase today is Less is More, but no, with our music, More is More !” And that’s true in both bands’ musical compositions. True transitions, key changes, time signature changes, different movements within a song, poetic storytelling or statement promoting lyrics, and the occasional instrumental only composition.

She picked up on the fact that the crowd is singing along to an instrumental, she picked up on the fact that the crowd was jumping all together at a 100000 people strong, She picks up on the level of musicianship as well as the passion, like literally nothing got lost on this reaction video. Geddy Lee - vocals, bass, keyboards and foot pedals; Alex Lifeson - every guitar imaginable and foot pedals; and The Professor, Neil Peart - drums (anything that makes a sound when hit) and main song writer. The music, transitions and lyrics are complex and meaningful. I hope you start this journey. Do yourselves a favor, react to Xanadu - Exit Stage Left. Collectively they are one. They produce masterfully crafted, tight, crisp and technically sophisticated music. They are the best progressive rock band to have ever existed. Their skills are elite and they are highly respected and admired by their peers in the rock and roll genre. I had the honor and privilege to see Rush in concert in the summer of 1974. I was lucky enough to see Rush twice. The first time I saw them, they played their epic, "2112," in its entirety. They were three virtuoso musicians, the drummer was a genius lyricist, and their influence is huge. Dave Grohl has said he would have never been a drummer if not for Rush. Billy Corgan has said Rush was the best of the best in music. I always say Pink Floyd is my favorite group, but Rush is a very close second with Nightwish and Dream Theater being three and four. Incredible band, legends in every way, and if you're a musician, you need to listen to Rush, period.

I hope you guys go farther down the Rush rabbit hole. 40 years of some of the most impeccable music ever. Three of the most humble, talented, and genuinely good people ever who happened to get together to make incredible music. Neil, the drummer, is (I still cannot bring myself to use the past tense for him; his death this past January still hurts) one of the most accomplished, talented, and classy drummers and lyricists to ever walk the Earth. He was the first famous person I ever looked up to, and he influenced me not only in my drumming, but in writing and how he carried himself as a person. Geddy and Alex are absolute Masters, and the way the three of them pulled everything off live is unmatched. Every sound you hear onstage, be it an instrument, an effect, or a sample, was triggered by one of them onstage. Whoever had a free hand, finger, or foot at any time. There are easily dozens of songs you must listen to, and any Rush fan will have their own priority. I highly recommend Natural Science, Animate, Neil's solo from Frankfurt, The Pass, La Villa Strangiato, The Garden, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisons....the list just goes on and on. If you feel like really diving in, go for the epics: 2112, Hemispheres, Xanadu, and beyond. I hope you really get to delve into them and discover why so many of us Rush fans have continued to pass the tradition of fandom down thru our families.

I used to buy concert tickets to see Rush and choose seats that would give me a clear line of sight to the drummer Neil Peart. It was an absolute privilege every time that I got that opportunity. Others have already said to react to Neil in Frankfurt. Do it.

Hey, guys! I was in that amazing crowd! The show was in november 23, 2002, in Maracanã Stadium (the biggest soccer stadium in the world), Rio de Janeiro. One of the greatests shows in my life. The own Geddy Lee (bass, vocals) said that looked like having supporters in a soccer Fla X Flu game (between Flamengo and Fluminense, the most traditional match of Brazil). Check out other videos of shows in our country and you'll see more of this, and come here to see this 'in loco'. Thanks!

I’m a fifty-something and get a huge kick seeing young people respond to the musicians I grew up with in my youth. Soak it in and appreciate the work that went into playing at a master level. I met G. Lee & A. Lifeson on their final tour and found them to be humble and fun.

Early stuff: La Villa Strangiato is a musicians delight to explore Cygnus X-1 Book1 and Book 2 (2 different albums) 2112 - 20-ish minute masterpiece Then you can move on to the next 4 genre's of their Career

I was at this show at Maracanã Stadium. It was a day of celebration! Kisses from Brazil... A secret about this song: He didn't pick up the stick when he threw it up hahahaha But he quickly picked up another one and didn't get in the way of anything! Did you realize that it is only an instriumental song and yet people were singing? I helped ....

YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's Lester B Pearson airport. The band would get excited when they saw YYZ on their luggage tags as it meant they were going home. The song is meant to evoke the hustle of an airport. Rush are also nerds. The intro rhythm is Morse code for YYZ. When the songs have lyrics, they also usually have multiple meanings too. Geddy Lee, the bassist, is also the keyboardist and often on stage would be playing bass, Taurus pedals and singing at the same time. Or playing keyboards, using the pedals for bass and singing. The percussionist, Neil Peart, wrote >95% of the lyrics while guitarist Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee wrote most of the music. 19 studio albums from 1974 to 2012. Toured until 2015. I would highly recommend one of their radio 'hits' (of which there really aren't too many for some odd reason) is Freewill and I would recommend the 2010 Time Machine version - they all flex in the breakdown section in the middle (have the lyrics available too)!

Probably the best review of this specific song. She picked up on two of my favorite features of this performance. The fact that the audience is singing the instrumental melody..... and Alex rearing his head back during a solo..... showing his passion. Awesome review guys!

The name YYZ is actually the airport code from their hometown of Toronto. Rush is arguably the greatest rock trio of all time. Neil Peart is worshiped by an entire generation of drummers. Fun fact, Neil wrote almost all of the bands lyrics. That’s right the drummer wrote the lyrics! I highly recommend watching the doc Rush - Beyond The lighted Stage.

Tom Sawyer should have been your entry into Rush, as it contains the same musical power and the very distinct vocals of geddy. Love seeing you react to bands, as you don't stop to much and analyse the shit out of it. Just raw love of music.

This was a four hour concert, and not the first song. When playing that long things like to cramp up. So many moons ago Neil the mastermind of the group thought a song where they stretch out their hands and arms made perfect sense. They have always pushed their talents to the limits so stretching wouldn't be any different meaning a high level of abilities. Geddy Lee the bassist once said he didn't enjoy this song for all the wrong reasons, but understood its purpose. Fans love it no words and all.

It is a testament not only to Rush but their superb crew that this show ever happened, it was the final part of a short leg and was being filmed specially, their gear had been seriously affected by rain at the previous show in Sao Paulo the day before the Rio show, the crew had massive problems trying to dry out and test equipment to get the show together at Rio. Because of this the band didn't get to do any sound check nor was there any time to do any filming checks so the band had to hit the stage not knowing if everything was going to work, what the sound was going to be like and under the pressure of being filmed live, that they pulled it off at all was a miracle.
