This music was never intended for ear buds or headphones, you need a stereo with big speakers and a big amp. You can literally feel the music pound thru ya. If pictures don't fall off the wall it aint load enough. It should also make bell bottom jeans move.

This is them in their later years they gotta be in their 70s at least here. You need to listen to the earlier version when his voice was stronger. Still sounding good no lie, but check out the earlier vids and albums. They are a fantastic band for sure. And at almost 62 myself now, I am a born and raised Texan my whole life, never lived anywhere else, and we are very proud of this band!

The groove of the song is based on a traditional boogie blues rhythm used by John Lee Hooker in "Boogie Chillen'", here he is playing it with Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones in 1989: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZqaopml0rPWaac.html

This performance is from 2019, so a fair bit of time for the boys to mellow a bit - the original recording (stay away from the horrible remaster they did in the eighties when they released the material on CD) is a bit better in my opinion with a more biting guitar over the riff that the studio allowed them to keep constant. Can’t believe this is your first ZZ Top!

A great example of their beginnings in the 70's. When MTV hit the air waves their videos became some of the most aired. The music changed slightly in the MTV years but always kept the blues based sound. Another great song from the Tres Homres album would be Waitin On The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago.

Love your work. And I gotta tell that people who like me grew up in this era from 1978 and on, know how tough the music competition was. It took alot sometimes for a great song to move up the charts and send the hits above it below them. As Casey would say, "moving up 3 notches to number 1"...I'm sure the artists "dropping" a notch or more would just cringe a minute or two..omg...Great times, and with now a 46 year old catalog to jam too, life is great..dj. I grew up in Houston when ZZ Top first came out and they were popular from the get go as the up and coming new local band. They got a lot of airplay with early hits like "Somebody Else's Been Shaking Your Tree" and "Francine". The iconic riff in La Grange is eerily similar to (wink wink) an earlier song by Canned Heat called "Refried Boogie", which was taken from an old John Lee Hooker song. The early stuff is their best work, altho Gibbons solo work is really good. The movie "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds was based largely on this song and eventually became a popular stage musical. They're a legendary, one of a kind band with a sound unlike any other.

For years, I did not get ZZ Top. I could tell they were all at least competent with their chosen instruments, but it did not pull any of my strings. "La Grange", in particular did not seem to be about anything or go anywhere. Then, one day, I was listening to "La Grange" by ZZ Top - pretty much by accident - and I listened to the introduction and heard - properly heard - the drum link between the intro and the first verse and my brain froze. "Whoa! What the mother-loving syncopated syncopation was THAT???!!!" (I confess I am a complete sucker for a drummer who does not just count to 4.) In that instant, I became a fan.

They're awesome live, saw them twice, extremely entertaining and great sound. You should check their main singles official videos becuase they're iconic and you'll udnerstand why the wiki article mentioned sly and humourous lyrics. They're video have that vibe too. They're also quite versatile, even if the Texas blues influence always remains in their music. Some slower songs, some more rocking, classic blues, etc. "Waitin for the bus / Jesus just left Chicago" (must listen, a classic blues song), "Sharp Dressed Man", "Rough Boy", "Gimme All Your Lovin", "Gotsta Get Paid".
