$18 and you are only a few steps away from Makati is a hell of a deal! I wanna stay there next time I come to Manila, looks nice. Btw there was another place in the Mandaluyong area, another big skyscrapers city next to Makati. I stayed in this massive building at the top 60th floor above a real mall for under $25, another super convenient location with tons of restaurants. It's also a tiny place like your hotel but I have a kitchen and a bigger bathroom. Its a crazy city, busy 24 hours a day lol

you're not even in the poorest areas, fun fact, those areas you showed (4:47 and so on) are actually considered as the more higher ups😅so I understand why some people are offended, because you kinda called them poor even though they're not really. I think its just your perception of what is considered "poor". But as a filipino, those houses that you showed are pretty built up and look nice compared to the much much poorer slums like the ones in Tondo (you should search up google images of Tondo so you could see what I mean). Also don't be scared, the Philippines is hailed to have one of the most friendliest people in the world
@pongpong123able4
@pongpong123able4 Жыл бұрын
What you saw (the stark difference between the different areas in manila is the result of almost 15 years of positive GDP growth (around 6 percent per year). If you were to visit Manila in the 1990s to early 2000s the whole city is a large slum area with small isolated pockets of developed commercial blocks. The economy barely grew each year. We were the sick man of asia. It wasnt until 2010 when the Philippines experience successive years of positive economic growth (except for 2020). Upscale areas like BGC began to be developed. Makati Business District also expanded with more modern buildings and condominiums. What used to be small isolated pockets of commercial areas, grew larger in size and began to overlap (BGC, Pioneer, Kapitolyo and Ortigas,) and new corridors are being developed, further replacing erstwhile slum areas (see developments along C5 and EDSA, QC CBD, manila Bay entertainment city and MOA district). If positive growth continues for another decade, most of Manila would be gentrified and developed while the slum areas would retreat into small isolated pockets and eventually disappear. Many provinces are also developing their own CBDs as jobs disperse out of manila into other regions.

Slowly but surely the government will uplift the living conditions of less fortunate pinoys by constructing affordable housing units this coming months….. 6mllion housing units distributed to all over the country is the plan…The new president already allotted a budget for this and showed a groundbreaking already in one big cities In Quezon City…..Hope the eyesore in the area will slowly be replaced with a decent community to live in….

As a developing country like most of southeast Asia, we have patches of good spots and shady spots. If we were shocked, then we would put it on the cover of the video, like so many other KZfaqrs ;) But I do think that not only Makati and BGC deserve to be in the videos. And that’s what I saw mostly other bloggers showing, only the upscale part. While so many people in Manila live a completely different life and deserve to be seen.

Metro Manila is the same with any other cities in the world. it is very modern but the Metropolis was divided into 16 different cities causing the development to spread. So instead of putting business districts into a single area to make it look good, they scattered it all over the metropolis. Imagine how Metro Manila looks like if all 36 Modern Business districts are put into single place altogether. Metro Manila has a bad Urban planning Some modern areas are popping up in the middle of Residential areas that make that residential areas looks so poor. But that is the normal lifestyle of Southeast Asians, if you go to Jakarta, Bangkok, or any other cities in southeast Asia except for Kuala Lumpur and Singapore which is not populated. Southeast Asians are living in a landed houses which is crowded but people living in that areas are earning above the poverty rate level. Slum areas in Metro Manila is only in Tondo, and some parts of Pasay, Paranaque and QC.
@JC0820
@JC0820 Жыл бұрын
Well, scattering the BCD all around Metro Manila is the best option for the Philippine government because, as you said, the residential areas were built before the BCD popped out, so if they want to maximize the benefits of the workforce and the development, they need to build it in different locations so many people will have an access to it. If the economic growth that the country is experiencing today continues, the development of residential areas will follow.

hotel is called "myStay". But what we didn't mention is every time it was hard to get a taxi from there or from other parts of the city to get back. no drivers on grab would pick us up and one time we ended up walking by the highway in the dark to get back. I think only the drivers who didn't know the area would go there. probably because of very heavy traffic. So if you just want to spend the night, I would stay somewhere closer to the airport.

Actually, in that place you showed first, the people there are not poor; they are striving, they have jobs, and some of them even own cars. Maybe because you came from a first-world country, that is why it is normal for you to see places that are well-built and well-planned, and that is why you thought it was already the poorest area of the Philippines because it is not organized the way you expected. No, it's just underdeveloped, or it was built before without plans. The majority of the places in the Philippines still look like that because, technically, the country is still considered a third-world country; hence, many places are still underdeveloped, but it is now a newly industrialized country. The poor areas of the country are worse than that; you can see them near the beaches, rivers, under the bridge, or beside the railways.

your apartment is a bit tiny for me my opinion. some vloggers live in Makati but most of them live in BGC.

As if uk got zero poverty...uk has the highest poverty rate and homelessness in western Europe if these vloggers were from UK.. If they are from the USA poverty rate is higher than pH as of today..USA got massive number of homeless people population- wise than the entire philippines.. FYI, pH Poverty rate as of today is just below %16 hence it's not that that high as per world bank statement..

But I love the local neighborhood. If only they have better sidewalks and no more tangling wires, it would definitely look better.

I like BGC and the developed areas of Makati, but evidently, the gap between the rich and poor in the Philippines is huge. Most areas (aside from the business and commercial districts) are poor, dirty, and in need of new infrastructure. How unfortunate of the Philippines; while it once was known as the "Pearl of Asia" and even "Paris of the East", now it's only known as a nation full of poverty-stricken people. I wish for The Philippines prosperity and success once again.

Yeah but i'm talking about the image and reputation of the Philippines. That's how foreigners see the country -- poor and underdeveloped, so they are shocked when they come to the Philippines and find well developed areas like BGC. They also think most people in the Philippines are poor and jobless and is the reason they need to go abroad. Also it's true that most areas of the Philippines are dirty and poor (poor as in run-down buildings, streets and sidewalks that needs repairing, messy power lines, bad infrastructure in general; essentially, the opposite of BGC.)

that poor areas of Manila actually way far better as compare to poor neighborhood of INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, CAMBODIA, LAOS, NEPAL, 5 TANS Countries also latin america and above all AFRICAN continent. where you can still see the capital cities which are not pave off the houses are still huts. with very poor of everythings.

We've been to Philippines 2 years ago and to be honest we haven't been impressed of how the capital Manila it's looking like. The pavements are a nightmare, a lot of noise too! We've stayed around Makati area, even if the malls look nice and Makati area it's quite developed with skyscrapers other areas are very poor and not that much to visit. I haven't been very impressed with the capital as I was with Bangkok for example. I believe you're heading towards other areas in the Philippines so looking forward to see those video. We have really enjoyed our trip to Philippines and people have been so friendly, most of them speak english so it was easy to communicate. Some areas we have explored and you might want to visit: Bohol/Panglao had lovely vibe, beautiful beach , nice to do an island trip to Balicasag Island where you can see the turtles, it was an amazing experience. The island it's quite developed so the internet conection was good. The famous El Nido has stuning beaches with turquoise water; also Moalboal area was more remote, peacefully with lots of waterfalls, probably good for a few days but not to stay for long. We haven't liked Cebu city by the way, it was very busy, noisy and we just didn't clicked with the place. Good luck with your travelling, looking forward to see which country/area you will choose to live in for the next period ( I believe it will be Thailand) but let's see. Good luck!😊.
