Everything costs so much more now in Turkey in USD or Euro terms in general, at least 60-70%, 2-3 times more. And it is expensive for foreigners too.

When so many extra people comes and resides in the country the prices gone crazy because of high demand. Fot example 10 locals were eating eggs when 4 new arrivals in the city they also wanted to eat eggs. So the farmer has only 10 eggs in his inventory he needed to raise the egg price to give who can pay it the most. Now the locals can not pay rents, can not shop even their basic needs because so many people came in to country willing to pay more and skyrocketed the demand after covid&war. İt needed to be stopped after some time. At least for the big cities. Some neighborhoods are under invasion of aliens, locals needed to leave their neighbourhoods, their neighbours, their lifestyle, their memories because they can not afford their lives anymore.

Yes, that was the main reasoning for inflation a couple years ago. But now it's impossible to get the residency and most of the foreigners left. We recently visited Antalya for a holiday and the prices did not get lower, they skyrocketed even more, in euro they are almost double. Can't imagine how hard it must be for the locals. But it's obvious now that the high demand from foreigners wasn't the reason for inflation. We loved living in Türkiye and still hope things will get better.

Landlord May prefer annual psyment, only because it gets impossible to rent out your place certain months. Happened to me. Then the whole yr it coukdnt be rented again. Turkish president has failed with turkish economy sadly, which Turks admit.

I am a Turkish American living in both US and Turkiye. Cost of living is insanely high everywhere. The prices are un-freaking-believable and Turkiye is not immune to this new world order. Yet compared to U.S & Europe based on what she offers, Turkiye continues to be the best deal.

It used to be. These days most retirees have to leave Turkiye, because they can't get a residency permit anymore unless they buy a house. It's sad, but living abroad has it's risks, changes in the local law is one of those risks.

I agree with your points, still I believe Turkey is a good place compared to other developed places. You said about Politics and relation with greece. Which country doesn’t have a political issue now in that aspect ? West is always trying to make problems in countries where they do bot get good support. That is usual.

About the motorized vehicles tax in Turkey: It's based on the displacement of the engine. But even the tiniest engines, like 1 litre, are heavily taxed. However, foreigners exampt of most of those taxes. They don't pay even nearly at same bracket as Turks. For example; A 2008 Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTDM Distinctive package is sold foreigner to foreigner for 60.000 TRY at Sahibinden. Same car, same engine, same package, same milage, yet 2007 made is 700.000 TRY for Turks. 60.000 TRY isn't even 2000$ but the latter is more than 20.000$.

Housing prices skyrocketed in the last 3-4 years. Both the sale and rent prices have gone through the roof. That's about both the inflation, but also about the February 6th, 2023 earthquakes. So many people lost their homes, over 850.000 apartments and houses destroyed. Most of the effected moved to western parts of the country (since the effected area was East-Southeast of Turkey) demand to rental houses/apartments boomed. There is also an other cause of housing price boom: People who have some money tend to buy houses in Turkey. They bought houses with mortgage credits. Kept the houses until they profit, then they sold. So this buy-sell circulation kept going for over a decade. However the credit interest skyrocketed because of the inflation, and the government forces banks (not just publicly owned, but also private banks) not to give mortgage credits. Which caused sell prices of the houses to stagnate and there are almost no buyers in the market. So home owners had to raise the rents to avoid losing money. The government put a rent increase limit in turn, 25% which ended just a few days ago. So home owners were actually forced to force renters to sign an eviction notice, so they can avoid 25% increase limit.

Another popular “dropping” scam is empty wallet dropped in front of you by someone. When you pick it up and approach the person to give it back, you are assumed to be the one who took all money from the wallet.

I am a Turkish girl, and I watched your this video. Turkey has many different cultures so every place’s culture and trafition are much more different than others in there… But I agree with you about smokers because I can not sit everywhere as a non-smoker. Nowadays Turkish economy is extremly bad so many Turkish people can not buy new things , can not travel easily everything is much expensive… İstanbul is very cosmopolitic place where is like a different country so you can see many different people in there and there is sometimes very daingrous for us if you do not knot well there in İstanbul! Many times we can not book any hotel in Marmaris, Bodrum and those kind of turistik places because those hotels much more expensive for Turkish people! I love my country, but nowadays, we have had hard days for a few years… I can understand completely you and your advice… I wish everything would be much more different :(( …
