No matter what the age, mentality or diagnosis.....there is no place like home. I definitely understand the joy and happiness it brings to be home and in your own bed. I get giddy like Abbie does every time I am back home in my bed. It’s my safe haven and the only place I feel 100% secure. I’m so proud of Abbie, our little girl is growing up and branching out trying new things. She has come so far in her growth.

I have always loved snow because it covers everything, it makes the world look less chaotic, more peaceful and the white cover is very pleasing to the eyes and brain. Falling snow is both exciting and calming. We had snow three times this week and every time I went outside for long walks and runs through the neighbour region that is slightly higher with more proper snow than here. The most snow there was a layer that was ankle deep. And just enough for snowmen to be build everywhere :-)

My daughter has SPD and she loves the snow because of the “heavy work”. It’s heavy to pick up which provides a weight to her hands which are constantly going. It also is harder to walk in, so for her it makes a fun challenge. The first time we took my daughter sledding was the first time she fell asleep in her bed on her own. No playground can replicate that.

From Quebec Canada we get a lot and I love it. I hate glove's. Something abiut not being able to feel. But yes the sound is big for me making everything quieter and calmer. Also there's so much u can do with it. Shape it, ball it, sprinkle it, crunch it. Snow all the way over sand. Sand gets in everything. Snow cleans up.

Your comment about snow dampening the earth is spot on. After a fluffy or heavy snowfall the whole city sounds so quiet, and combined with the reflection of light on everything white it never gets fully dark most days. Beautiful! I complain about living in the prairies in Canada but it definitely has it's own perks.

Snow is great. I don’t have autism, but I do use skills to get control over my emotions and stress level, because it can get really intense for me. It’s very relaxing for me to watch the snow fall and I like the texture and the cold feeling. It helps me when my stress level gets high. Another thing is that it remembers me about the days as a child when everything was still okay. So it’s a bit like a time travel back to a happier time

Mincayi, a native of the Huaorani tribe, who lived his entire life in the jungles of Ecuador, came to the US as an old man, to tour with a missionary friend. They visited the Midwest during the Winter, where Mincayi got to experience snow for the first time. His friend placed a snowball in his hand and he dropped it, saying it burned his hand like fire! The extreme cold of the snow and the way it stung his hand, reminded him of fire, the only thing in his experience to which he could compare that sensation.

About the snow topic I feel like it's mainly that at the beach it's ok to take the shoes off but in the snow you can't. I think that is what was happening at first with Abby, she probably thought of the two as similar but wasn't sure about it because she couldn't take her shoes off to get a feel for it. That is what I think, at least that is how it is for me.

Hello Mass Family. I thought the Vacation was for Two Weeks? or Did You only show the last Few Days? I am glad You all had a Nice Vacation, and I am glad to see that Abbie was Happy to be Back Home. For Me, My Room is My Sanctuary, the One Place I can always go to in order to be Safe! Two Weeks is the Normal Vacation Length for Me *if* We do not cut it Short due to Mental Health Issues, Meltdown Problems, or My Parents just not being able to Handle Me. I know, It is *very* hard to get Your Footing on Snow as it is Extremely Slippery, I do not Like Snow at all, As I also have issues with Footing and Grounding even at the best of times. Ah, Yes, the Collaboration with the Wee Family. I am glad Braylee gets to Experience all that Snow given She loves it so Much and always Has loved it :) I am in the North of the UK, we do not get much Snow here, very little actually, we Mostly just get Rain and Fog, but this Year we have had a *load* of Snow, Far Far more than Normal, I have no Enjoyed it :( I do not like Snow on a Sensory Level, quite the Opposite Actually, It is Cold and it is Wet and it is Slippery and it is a total Sensory *Yuck* for Me Personally. The only thing a Like about it is the fact it does make everything a lot Quieter. Still, I am glad Braylee and Abbie love it so Much! Gloves are very Unpleasant Sensory Wise in My Opinion, they make Me Feel like My Fingers are being Strangled! I still think Skiing is Stupidly Dangerous Personally, but then I am Extremely Risk Adverse. Sand is Better IMO! Because the Seaside, at least in the Summer, is Normally Warm! However, Finding Sand is an Issue in the UK as most of Our Beaches are Pebble Surfaced, not Sand Surfaced. Lake Beaches do not count, only Coastal Beaches count. I like to Look at the Sea, as I find it incredibly Calming to Look at, but I do not like to go in it as the Sea around the UK is *Freezing* Cold, it can be 26 Degree (Centigrade) weather with a Blazing Sun, but Sea will only be at 3 Degrees Centigrade. When I want to go In Water, I have a Bath, but, I only get them At the Respite Home or On Vacation as My House only has a Shower, it does not have a Tub. Bye all, take care then! I wish the Wee Family Luck with their Property Move!

Landon, my autistic 13 year old grandson, says that the reason he likes snow is that when he lays down in it, it's so quiet. Also that he lovs the way it feels. So, yeah, big time sensory things going on there, at least for him.

You might try thinner material as well, when you get Abbie some mittens. Because I would imagine that if the mittens are too thick and she can't use her hands or feel anything through them, she would want them off immediately. So maybe if you want to try desensitizing, start ith very thin mittens (like single player fleece, or "magic" thin knit mittens) and get her used to them before getting highly effective waterproof ones.

I agree, with the sound dampening idea. Snowfall is also calming screne slow. The different crunches is satisfying. However as a person with sensory input problems I would like to mention to beware of the light overload. First looking at snow is blinding. Its worse for me on overcast days. Some days are worse than others. My sensor issues change constantly. Hope this input helps others.

Im also Autistic and i like snow as it is cold and wet but not rain the sound and visual senses ate also really cool but my favourite thing about it is that you can do so much with it like ski snowboard snow ball fights igloo building and snowman building. This only happens when we get snow to lie though as sometimes it snows but doesn't lie other times it lies overnight and is melted by the morning ans even worse snows lies but you cant do anything with it. But nothing beats the memories you make with your family and friends. My favourite snow memory is from 2012 me and my cousins all went to the park along from my auntie's and there is a wee river the it gad frozen so we played plenty of games on and around it then one of my cosins faceplanted in the river and the ice broke and she got drenshed so we went back to my auntie's and while she got changed we had a snow ball fight with all my uncles and some of my one of my auntie's hid under there car and lonshed snowballs at everyone who passed but then we played hide and seak and i stayed in my spot but everyone thought i had got too cold and gone back inside so when they found everyone else they went back inside and left me under the car but after about 5 minutes they relised and came and found me. That was the funnest day of my life. Ps i hate sand as its corse rugh iratateing and it gets everywhere.

Same I hate the cold but I love the calmness or difference it gives to the environment and I specially love when it snows, it's almost like everything becomes silent in your head (sometimes ut feels bit weird too and specially if they're big, it almost starts like flickering in my head and it becomes so silent even if I hear things, ugh hard to explain) but it's nice to watch the snowing through window too. I have never before thought this feeling or sensation with snow could have something to do with the autism, only that it's cool how it all sort of becomes silent in your head when it's snowing.

Living in the upper midwest, we definitely experience our fair share of snow. Just by watching this video, I can tell that the "snow" you are showing in the video is not true snow. A lot of times, because of the low daily temps during the winter months, a lot of times, the snow does turn to ice, which can be fun for kids (& some adults too) sledding, snowboarding, etc..., but it cun also be dangerous, as it can be very "sharp" & hard....similar to gravel. Our winter this year has been extremely warm compared to the usual below zero temps & windchills, which is great for making snowman & snowballs. I think Abbie would love to go sledding on the snow & I somehow have the feeling that Asa & Isaiah would love doing snowboarding & cross-country skiing...maybe even getting you up on skates to play a game of hockey... :)
