'I wonder what pedal he's using' ALL of the pedals! Matt Bellamy can get sounds out of a guitar that no one can even imagine! I echo what the other commenter said about checking out Butterflies and Hurricanes. They have so many great songs but to me, for musicality, that is one of the best out there. You have a Rachmaninov-inspired piano solo halfway through, the epic guitars that you expect from Muse and the lyrics are about inspiring change to be the best you can be. I'd personally recommend the 'Live at Wembley Stadium' version and not just because I was there in the crowd but because you'll get to see Matt leave the guitar and go to the piano to play the solo and realise that he's not just a master of guitars but of the piano too!

I have seen 100s of concerts in my time. muse has to be the best live show i have ever seen, hands down. ghost a 2nd place, but its not even close. muse stage show was absolutely amazing. never seen anything like that.. and I was seeing concerts back in megadeth, stone temple pilots, days.

One final thought: I usually don't recommend live versions of songs to someone being introduced to a band, because simply put, studio versions are usually much cleaner and truer to the music. But Muse is probably one of the best live bands ever and sound just as good live as they do on record and I wanted you to see not only how talented they are but the energy they perform with and that's why I kept bugging you to check this version out. That said, I'd recommend starting a dive into their studio catalog, but if you do wanna see another live performance by them, someone recommended Butterflies and Hurricanes Live from Wembley and that was an incredible performance and you can't go wrong reacting to it. Matt Bellamy is the lead singer/guitarist and piano/keyboard player. On tour nowadays, they use a keyboard player for certain songs. If you want an amazing bass riff/line and phenomenal chorus, you should do Hysteria next which is considered one of their top songs (they actually have about 15-20 songs that you could argue are their "top" songs). For something a bit more epic, you can't go wrong with something like Citizen Erased. For a perfect "single" check out Plug in Baby. They have a completely eclectic catalog that incorporates classical piano with balls to the wall rock. For something in that vein you should check out Butterflies and Hurricanes (which is ***chef's kiss*** amazing).

4:10 So okay; Matt's rig currently is made up of a Kemper amp mimicking his favorite amps with an Axe FX for effects (Vox AC30, Marshall Plexi, Diezel VH4, y'know, the classics). But his favorite pedals are the Z Vex Fuzz Factory and MXR Phase 90, to the point he actually has their circuits built into his guitars. I THINK he has the Fuzz Factory built into the one he uses here, but don't quote me on that. Glad you noticed the tremolo! Matt's dad was a surf rock guitarist in The Tornados back in the sixties, and I think some of that influence is in this song. Also, their synth bass and regular bass kind of trade off, so it could be either or both in any given song.

Muse is the best live band in the world, period. A few standout performances to react to: Hysteria and Time is Running Out from this same show, Citizen Erased @ Rock Am Ring 2004 , Stockholm Syndrome at Glastonbury 2004, New Born at Wembley Stadium, Bliss from Le Zenith 2001, Fury from the Royal Albert Hall, Reapers at IHeart radio, Unnatural Selection from the Den, and Showbiz from the Live Reading Festival 2006. Pretty much all of their live shows are insane and worth watching, but those are just some of the very best songs and performances of them all.

The buzz sound in Matts Manson guitar normally comes from a 'sustainer', the neck pickup is replaced with what are basically an active set of magnets that physically vibrate the metal strings (this is also how he can play with one hand and have it sound so clear).
