"How did they get to this level"? Well, by being incredibly talented and having one of the greatest musical geniuses and most unique vocalists of our time and age writing their songs. Being one of most incredible live bands ever also helps😄

Not to mention that they are all classically trained musicians.
@emanuelebelle39433 жыл бұрын
@@musicairplanes4884 they are not, Matt is a self-taught, his brother put him in front of a piano when he was six and told him to play a TV show theme. Surprisingly enough he managed to learn the TV song be ear and kept playing for his brother, when he was 11 he saw Hendrix burning his guitar, bought one and started playing. The only formation he had were a couple of years of clarinet and classical guitar at school. He does however have and understanding of classical music and you can find many references to it in his music. Not only classical, you find songs like "soldier's pohem" which is clearly based on a renaissance piece. Bellamy is one of those brilliant mind that doesn't need teaching to learn, I would compare him to Paul McGregor on this aspect as both never studied music in depth but were naturally capable to write very complex music.

I think Dave meant how did a band that doesn't play conventional rock music become this big. Because we know record labels don't usually sign or heavily promote bands that don't write formulaic/poppy music that is guaranteed to sell well to a general audience. Muse was definitely not some generic, formulaic rock band--at least not in their first three albums.

To answer your question, they started in 1994 playing small venues. They released their first album in 1999. With each album they grew their fanbase and their fame slowly and steadily : they only became a major band in Europe after their 4th album in 2006. And they became a major band in the rest of the world (especially the US) after their 5th album in 2009. Now they are not a big mainstream, commercial success, but they have gained the reputation of being one of the best bands live, so they do sell a lot of live tickets and they have their core fans !

They do occasionally play small clubs but the roof generally ends up about 3 states away so they rarely do them.

Nah, they were major at the bid day outs in Australia much earlier than that. I remember their first album Showbiz being played on the radio here and that was released in 1999. US only caught up around Black Holes and Revelations.

@@cathyaldridge4550 Being played at the radio doesn't mean major. "He's not going to knock over his drums?", you asked? YES! You should watch video of Muse playing their early tours when they INDEED trashed their instruments and destroyed the drum kit!! They used to end their shows that way, back in 1998 - 2002 or so. Once they became a huge act, with more "Industry Standard" bookings and record sales, they stopped do the manic "freakout" at the end of the show, but yes, they used to do that! Muse is one of if not the best live Rock band in the world. They've been around as a recording band since 1999 (started in '94) and still rocks massive audiences to this day! Their shows are some of the most epic you will ever see!

Especially Stockholm Syndrome at the Wiltern in 2004. They finished the song and started to play the 0305030 riff (Psycho), but Matt went crazy and cut it off by jumping into the drum kit- to which Chris went up to the camera and said “shame” before bashing the drum kit with his bass 😂
