@@RNDReacts To be fair Shine on You Crazy Diamond is quite a long song. I have discussed with the counsel, and they have agreed, that at least one 0.12 second pause is admissible. ;) Pink Floyd fans can be very particular. :)

The opening is "finding the track playing on an old fm radio" and then thinking back to those glory days and jamming along to the radio. You might have missed in the second half David Gilmour sings the notes he's playing on the guitar.

Melancholically euphoric. I’ve been down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole for 50 years. I don’t think you can define Floyd using normal musical parameters: they are masters of painting feelings and sole using sound, lyrics and vision. Can you imagine being 17 years old in 1973 when dark side of the moon was released (no youtube, no internet!). Can I recommend: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb - pulse concert performance 1994. It has the best guitar solo ever, not just my option - if it makes you emotional and you want to cry that is ok, you are in good company. It also has a light show that is first contact stuff - WARNING Do Not Pause during Gilmour’s guitar solo, Floydians will come and set fire in the comments of your channel !!

From the moment the needle hit “Dark Side Of The Moon” ( l was 12 I am now 63) Pink Floyd became not metrely music but an experience. I have had the honor of seeing them twice. Once in ‘77 and once in ‘79. They were not concerts, again, they were experiences. There is a reason why “Dark Side Of The Moon” stood on the Billboard charts for 741 weeks!

I looked it up (I'm a 2010 kid, and really enjoying classic rock) and wow, 14 years. That is crazy. I also just want you to know that there is still some hope in good music being spread in today kids generation, I love Pink Floyd, Queen, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, and much, much more. I'm trying to spread that amazing music around my generation, it's amazing. Just letting you know that there are still some children that really appreciate this kind of music from the past. Hope you live a long, fun life! ❤️😀

Sometimes it's the lyrics that move you, sometimes it's the music. Every time you listen to Pink Floyd your mood is different and that's fine. You'll find nuances that you hadn't noticed before which then gives the whole listening experience a different slant, a different meaning even a different emotion. Enjoy the trip, I've been listening to Pink Floyd since 1973 when I was 20 years old!!😂🇬🇧

If you ever get into Pink Floyd's "Animals" album you're in for a treat. @@RNDReactsNo problem! I've seen it said before so you're not the first, it's just a mistelling and doesn't paint the picture right. It wasn't amicable. Syd was also probably ready to leave anyway, so same outcome. I like both sides of Pink Floyd, but the earlier stuff resonates more, for me. You should react to some! Well done on not hitting pause. You're right about Syd. David Gilmore came in to help out the band as a guitarist thereafter quickly becoming the lead guitarist and co-writer to Roger Waters. Nick Mason is on the drums. Richard Wright on the keys and synths/organ also writer of several of their longer tracks. David Gilmore went on to release several albums as a solo artist and in fact will have a new release coming up towards the end of May 2024! Roger Waters also released several albums as a solo artist after abruptly telling the rest of the band that Pink Floyd were over, David and the rest of the band contested that opinion which wound up in high court, possibly the most contentious split of a band both for credit and use of the name Pink Floyd. You will not see any information about what Roger is doing on the official website of Pink Floyd. The Wall is Roger Waters most recognized contribution to the history of the band though IMO he's responsible for starting the band with being one of their main writers along with Syd, Nick, and Richard Wright. I can go on for an absolute age and I have my opinion on Roger but I think I should let you figure out your own opinion without me giving too much away. Enjoy your rabbit hole that is Pink Floyd, you're well on your way to becoming a Floydian! I also subscribed as a result of your page popping up on my recommendations by the YT algorithm.

Much better reaction. One or two pauses mid-song isn’t terrible as long as it’s not in the middle of a guitar solo. Some of their songs are crazy long. Also, always listen to studio versions first so you can get the effects as they originally intended, then go to the PULSE concert (maybe best overall live concert ever). Exception: “On the Turning Away” as that live version is actually better and still gives the studio vibe.

Contrary to what many think, this song was NOT written about Syd Barrett, even if (understandably) the band subsequently thought of him when singing it. And here are the quotes from the band to indicate this: Waters, who wrote the lyrics, has said: “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent." Gilmour also added: “Although “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.” These quotes appear at 14:08 and 53:17 on the DVD “The Story of Wish You Were Here”.

Yes - that's right The song was written as a tribute to the founder of the band - Syd Barrett (by the way, the band is called Pink Floyd after Syd's two cats, which in turn he named after two blues musicians - Pink Anderson and Floyd Council). This album (Wish You Were Here) features another gem of modern music - Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Another song that's about Syd. It's probably my favourite song by this band and it's so long that they had to split it (due to the turntable footage) into two parts (Parts I-V and VI-IX) - one side each. Listen to this and you will hear another real masterpiece! Oh - now I'm sorry - I see you've already listened to SOYCD...

You have no idea what lays ahead of you with the rest of their music. Your soul will shiver, filled with emotions and thrills, you can no yet imagine. Great reaction guys, loved watching you both in the PF 'zone'. Roger Waters has said that this wasn't specifically about Syd. I think the band (and Roger in particular) were struggling to come to terms with the huge success of 'Dark side of the moon' and the realities of the music industry but I think they did a great job despite all of that! Interpreting lyrics is always going to be subjective as we're not in the head of the writer but I do enjoy hearing what people think. Cheers.
@dboss7239
@dboss7239 4 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right, the musicality grabs you and takes you on an emotional journey, then the lyrics make you think. This was the constant struggle between Gilmour and Waters. Gilmour believed you must have solid excellent music first, or the lyrics mean sh*t - whereas Waters is a gifted poet in his own right and focused on the words. Despite what Waters says, this does "reflect" the insanity and dissociation from reality that Syd experienced. it was not primarily from drugs, though an overdose of LSD may have exacerbated Syd's descent into mental illness. But he lost touch with reality, hence the lyrics "can you tell, heaven from hell, blue skies from pain, can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail" etc. These seem obvious to most, but when your perception is distorted with a severe mental illness - you may not be able to discern reality very well. But it does evoke that sense of loss that all people experience, so you can transpose the essence of the song to your own experience. To really understand the incredible influence Pink Floyd had on the evolution of modern music, you must listen to the entire album "Dark Side of the Moon" which is still today one of the highest selling albums of all time. Don't just do individual tracks, start at the beginning and go all the way through, as it is like a modern day progressive rock symphony, with various movements that flow into the next. And it tells a story about the human condition and aspects thereof. They touch upon Syd's mental illness in Dark Side as well, with the track called "Brain Damage".

If you're wondering why the sound was a bit odd, at first, it's because the previous song ends abruptly and you immediately hear someone changing a radio channel, with an old school dial, going from one frequency to another, until he finds music. Then he picks up his guitar and starts playing along. Their music is meant to me experienced like a movie... each track is a scene from a whole story. Glad you are enjoying the ride!
