Listened to pink floyd ever since I was a kid because I loved the harmonies and vocals. 25 now and the lyrics hit like a freight train. I refuse to even skip the slow parts bc they've become some my favorite elements of this band. GOATs no question

@@VernonSwanepoel almost everything in Dark Side of the Moon flows seamlessly, "Money" is a bit jarring in it's change of tempo from "Great Gig in the Sky" but it still fits in well when you consider it was the first song on the B side of the album, so people would have had a brief pause anyway when they flipped the record over.

We need to remember, when we worry about 'wasting' time, that it's not all about filliing every moment with doing stuff, or planning ahead in order to 'achieve' some future goal. Sometimes, 'not wasting time' means just BEING, rather than doing. In fact, just 'being' usually gives us our best moments and memories in life. I love my big brother and miss him greatly. A moment from his life illustrates both my point and his character in equal measure. His daughter was still young, maybe 6 or 7. She was sitting on the back step, just staring out, into the garden. Her mum was talking about finding her something to do. My brother's response? "She is doing something. She's thinking and taking in the World". :)

@mikaelmakinen995

@@profetsoul I think, because the song is about time and how people waste theirs doing the same thing, wake up, work, go home, sleep, repeat, with no time in between to actually live their lives, the song tells a persons' life story. In the first verse they're a kid/teenager kicking around in their hometown, in the second they're an adult beginning to realise the time they've wasted, and then they are suddenly retired and too old to leave home. And the part you're talking about is the funeral. The church bell calls the the family to pray for the deceased.
@ricks4411
@ricks4411 3 жыл бұрын
It was/is common practice to toll church bells before a funeral. It was a way to let the towns folk know a funeral service was about to begin. "calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spells" probably refers to the prayers spoken at funeral services. The song starts with birth and ends with death. Naturally, I can not be certain, it is just the way I interpret it.

As an "older" Brit I grew up listening to Floyd. Please see the comment by Jesse James. PF is a rabbit hole, and you really have two choices, you can take the Blue Pill listen to other bands and carry on as you are, OR you can take the Red Pill, listen to DSotM from the start, and get a glimpse of how deep the rabbit hole goes. It can add an entirely new dimension to your appreciation of music. So if you take the challenge, buckle up your seat Dorethy, Kansas is about to go bye bye!!! 😂

Hey there, enjoying your reaction to Pink Floyd "Time" ... and just have to tell you... at 5:15 seconds into the song ... you did something that I see everyone does ... closed your eyes and started moving your head from side to side... LOL and I had to chuckle... because at that moment... I knew you were going to dig the sound in the headphones and you were just enjoying the journey that every Pink Floyd song takes you on, just a relaxing, easy rockin tune .... and you have just been through what I call the... Pink Floyd Experience ! You can't fight it ... it's like that with the late GREAT Jimi Hendrix Experience... with just enough British (well... at least I think it British) ... and with David Gilmore in the equation as lead solo guitarist... you can't ask for a better combination. Two thumbs up on the reaction and keep doin that thang you do young lady 👍👍😎

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album is my favorite of all time ( see what I did, there? ) because it works on multiple levels. On the surface, it's some catchy, groovy rock, but below the surface, it's full of deeper meaning. When you listen to the album as a whole, you realize that it delves into the dark realities of modern life -- all the things which contribute to anxiety, grief, and, in some cases, madness.

It's a song that whenever it finds you in life it will hit you right in the gut. As you get older it means something very different than when you are younger. Loved your reaction, thank you for sharing a vulnerable moment!

If I had to take only one record, on a desert island it would be this record, I've been listening to it for forty years and it still gives me so many shivers, and I see that I'm not the only one :-)

Transfusion of the Mind. I choke up every time I listen to "On the Turning Away" by Pink Floyd. Hey, I saw your eyes closing every now and then; you almost started to float away. I'll never forget the Pink Floyd concert I went to in the mid-seventies. Three hours of light effects and quadraphonic sound. Such an indelible experience. Keep on going, girl. So many albums; so little time.

The intro is on a whole different level. Think about what your hearing. The are the moments you were born, seeing light for the first time, your childhood, and how it's faded away. You can't remember any of it. Now, we're wasting time planing on things that may never happen. It's like going to a job everyday and forgot to clock out and you're 65 before you know it and didn't do much. Time passes so fast and faster when you get older. Play this again when you're in your 50's and 60's and it will mean so much more and have even more meaning. And if you're lucky, you'll live to a good ole age but every one else around you will fade away the longer you live. Before you know it, it's your time.

You will see Pink Floyd puts you in the mood they want you in.. And if anyone gives you crap fir pausing they can shut it. We floyd fans can play every song backwards in our sleep. Its great that your listening to the band we all love. So take your time and enjoy the journey . As you get older this song will become more relevant when you realize 10 years have got behind you. And as for the backup singers.. They are angles sent down to play
