Queen is the most intelligent rock band ever to take the stage. All of the members would have been successful, even if they hadn't been in a band. Freddie was a graphic designer and designed the queen logo along with most of the cover art on the albums. The drummer Roger Taylor, was studying to be a biologist and dentist. The bass player John Deacon is an electrical engineer who invented and designed the Deacy Amp that allowed Brian May go get his unique sound on the guitar. Dr. Brian May is an internationally renowned Astrophysicist who wrote "A survey of radical velocities in the zodiacal dust cloud". that is a guide that NASA uses to this day. NASA often reaches out to Dr. May for assistance on matters too extreme for us normal mortals to understand. The song Bohemian Rhapsody has no definite meaning. At a young age, while Freddie was in boarding school, he had a vision to write an Opera, (which are mostly tragedies). That is why the beginning of the song sounds dark and tragic. It has no specific meaning to him personally, simply a vision he had. The song has no chorus. It has a ballad, an opera, an a capella and a rock song all in one. I refer you to the link youtube dot com/watch?v=-yE8SYzZ6Eo&t=2s. This song at the time was the most expensive song ever to be produced. It was so genius, that it is still popular over 40 years later. Freddies' flamboyant dress was his way of separating his personal life and his stage life. Freddie was an introvert who became a different person when he was singing and performing. If you get to know Queen a little better, you'll understand why this band was the absolute best live show and how capturing the crowd was a Freddies' specialty.

Tom Crawford I thought it was one of the best songs I had ever heard and I was only about nine when it was released. Thank it came out around 1975 and I was either eight or nine years old but I didn’t hear it until we moved to Texas and Dallas of 1976. Goodness gracious!! I thought it was incredible sounding but it took me until I was in my teens to really really appreciate this song. I learned how to play five musical instruments and was the singer and performer myself at 14. It took me to do that and at that time, even being a fan of the band and rollerskating to “ another one bites the dust” at 12, I really really appreciated the genius of this song.

Fun little fact about the song - he's actually referring to killing off his old persona as he started exploring his sexuality and whatnot. like being given a death sentence from one bad decision. Like his aids many years later and having to deal with it and has to come to terms that his life is now on a timer. people are still shallow and cruel and make judgements based on what they hear. An awesome friend can suddenly literally stab you in the back the next second because they disagree with something you have done or said. Freddy was so unbelievably talented and somehow surrounded himself very early with like minded and equally talented friends. together they built one of the greatest music groups of all time.

Lol, Sister Act. The problem I have with your reaction for one: is the fact that you took the song too literally. It's not what you think its about. Look up an interview with the greatest frontman of all time, Freddie Mercury and see what he will say about his masterpiece. Second, these men with long hair are highly educated. Astrophysicist and lead guitar Dr. Brian May, John Deacon on bass guitar studied electrical engineering and similarly to May who built his first guitar with his father at the age of 14, John built the Deacy amp, drummer Roger Taylor was studying to be a dentist and ended up with a Bachelor's in biology, and the man with an F2 (low tenor) to F6 (soprano) and F5 (high tenor) he earned a degree in art and graphic design. Their music was created organically by layering sound via overdubs. No autotuning existed back then. I still marvel in the fact that this song has 140 overdubs in the vocals alone. The harmonies are magical.

I agree with these replies. Too many of these reactions frustrates me because they talk so much about the music that they don't focus on the words. It seems that over half of the reactions to this song, the one reacting couldn't tell you what it was lyrics was about. They hear "I don't wanna die. Sometimes wish I never been born at all" and wonder why he would say that.

Well - nobody can be sure - but see the movie, and it might be a little enlightening -- I'm an old (58 yrs.) lady in the midwest - and in high school 74-77 my best friend and I were obsessed with Queen - got to see them in concert at 15 and met the band.. very kind and cool to a couple of awkward teenagers... :)

Yep - really did: Here is a copy of my story that I've posted in a couple of other reactions sites: Met Freddie/Queen at the age of 16 - with my BFF - and what we asked was "can we have your autograph" - but my friends mother butted in and told him "all my daughter ever talks about is Freddie-Freddie-Freddie!!" -- and while Robyn was understandably humiliated - his response was to look down for a second, then look up through his beautiful eyelashes and say, very quietly "Really?" - like he just couldn't believe it... he was shy, charming and lovely... and after my friend and I left... (it was a hotel lunchroom across a parking lot in Kalamazoo, MI from the concert venue we had been standing outside for HOURS in January weather) - we ran away to wait in line for the concert... and as the band left the room, and passed the lobby vending machine, Freddie asked Robyn's mother what coins he needed to buy a trinket... she told him 4 quarters, and he bought a key-chain set - with a heart and key (heart has a key-space) -- took out the "key" and gave the heart chain to Rob's mother and said "give this to your daughter" -- the inscription was "he who holds the key can open my heart" - that's the kind of guy Freddie was.. more to the story, the whole band was in the hotel restaurant and Brian May was the one who said "ought we to sign two?" when we asked for autographs... and also, when we did finally see the concert ("general admission" meant that you ran as fast as you could to the front) - each band member gave us a smile and a nod... well, except for Roger, who obviously could not see us from behind the drums... Gotta say, I've heard many stories of disappointments when people have met their "idols" - but this was just the opposite - wish I could give more details about the meeting, but this post is already super-long and likely not that interesting to most... just sayin' Love Freddie and Queen... (from an old lady)

thanks -- in order: It was 1977 - the tour was "Day at the Races" -- they opened with "Tie your Mother Down" -- (they were backed by by Thin Lizzy, BTW, another great band whose lead singer died far too young...) I was of course extremely sad to hear of Freddie's passing... I think of him every year on his birthday, Sept. 5 - when I usually "binge listen" -- not unlike many other days of the year... I used to always carry those autographs with me everywhere I went - but unfortunately, in the early twenties, my wallet was stolen from my purse in a bar... stupid me to take my eyes off of it -- I always have felt that whoever took it got maybe $12 bucks and probably barely glanced at those scribbled names on that folded piece of paper - and threw away a million dollar memory.... but really, that was just all it was - a piece of paper - I'll always have the memory :)

Haha, yep, their fashion is what's called glam rock, and men wore sequins, high heels, and makeup. It was a big thing in the 70s. I love it because these men didn't care about what gender should wear what. They didn't let themselves get boxed in and wore what made them happy. As for what the song means, nobody really knows. Even the band have said that most of it is just nonsense.

He faced discrimination as a kid (from Zanzibar) and then as an adult learning who he was All the band members were incredibly talented and smart. Video recorded in 1977 only took 4 hours to record - even concert footage is rehearsal stage. Song was done in Wayne's World and that took 10 hours to film. Potential concept is Freddie killing off his heterosexual self. It certainly can be applied to anyone's personal inner turmoil. I even think the good bye everybody could be used for suicide issues (you can't handle the problem at hand, one solution to skip out - but you also don't want to die) Masterpiece (all Freddie) Multiple song types continuing the story line A cappella (lines before piano starts - are actually all just Freddie's voice layered 5 times) Also listen to those words- is this real or fantasy / caught in landslide, no escape reality / look and see (as in the truth) Then the Ballad - the piano - confession or at least the set up of a conflict (apply as needed) The Opera - the silhouette and faces again - it's like a court fight (jury, lawyers, judgment) The Rock - realization of unfairness and anger - like maybe a fight is happening The Coda - is like a denouement (wrapping up a story tying pieces together, result) Nothing Really Matters = don't worry about what others think of you, it doesn't matter Freddie even wrote the guitar piece that Brian plays - yet he never took full credit ever - none of them did - they were amazing Freddie lived by his religious upbringing Zoroastrian: Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds

Back from 1975 where it first came out as cover from the album 'A Night At The Opera' as well as a single album it hits the hitlists that hard that it is STILL a hitlist song and heard almost everyday on radio STILL. Freddie Mercury himself wrote this incredible rhapsody out of some pieces of unfinished songs he couldn't fit. And every single note or line of the text is original and heir to this band. Ladies and Gentlemen: Queen or more specific: Freddie Mercury By the way: Queen is even bigger than this song, they've got lots of other all-time hits

It's said the meaning of the song was Freddie coming out, he killed the man everyone thought he was (straight) and came into his own and was going to be who he really was, and it really didn't matter to him what others thought anymore. However if you asked Freddie what any of his songs meant....his answer to you would be "What did it mean to you?" He never explained any of his songs because he wanted his fans to interpret it them using their own experiences in life, this becoming their song as well as his. Should check out his Live Aide 85 performance, you'll see he has this divine aura about him and controls a crowd of 70 thousand people, it's amazing to watch.

While the official meaning was never overtly revealed, many -- myself included -- believe it was Freddie Mercury (lead singer) going through his struggle with and accepting being gay. He was from an extremely strict Zoroastrian religion/family. In the beginning talking about knowing he's gay, the middle being the threats of eternal damnation and the rock part being him saying accept me for who I am: "So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me and leave me to die? Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby! Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here!" My .02.

BUT THEN the last thing I watched was your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction. Please, please, please now that you are a fan, and now that you know this song was produced in the mid-seventies by artists in their early twenties, please make a second reaction video focusing on the talent instead of the 70s attire and your incorrect take on the meaning of this song. I know your video will be much different this time around. Two more things: 1) please watch the entire 22 minute Live Aid set asap (preferably before you see the movie)...one of your comments was ‘how can another band go on after Queen’, this will prove that Queen could never be bested, they stole the show. And 2) see the movie, it’s a movie, not a documentary, and although there are timeline inaccuracies, it’s a really good movie with exceptional acting (especially Rami Malek as Freddie and full of Queen’s music which cannot be beat. Have you watched the movie, it’s fun. By the way I’m 81 and missed Queen until I saw the movie. One of my sons was a Queen fan in the early 80s but my mind was closed to this rock genre and now I’m playing catch up. I find your reactions refreshing.

He didn't actually kill anyone, physically. He killed his former closeted self, finally accepting his homosexuality and telling everyone that he no longer wanted to lie to himself or others. The song was played in the movie "Wayne's World".
