"Where have I been?" Best reaction ever. I remember the first time I heard the song when it was first released in, I think, 1975. My mom and I were riding in her Olds 442 on the way to Hegwish Records. We were listening to WLS on AM radio. I had just turned 9 years old and wanted to use some of my birthday money to get some albums. I wanted to get the new Parliament album and "Venus and Mars" by Paul McCartney. The first time we heard Bohemian Rhapsody was during that drive. It started playing about a minute before we pulled into the record store parking lot. We were both intrigued by the song. She parked the car and we sat there, mouths agape much like the young man above, and listened to rest of the song. We had never heard anything like this before. We were both fans of Queen but this was next level music from them that we were unprepared for. When the song ended, we just sat in the car, silently absorbing what we had just experienced. The DJ came on and said it was the latest from Queen and due to the phone lines lighting up, he was going to play it again, immediately. We sat and listened to the entire song for a second time and then dashed into the store to pick up the album. We actually had an argument on who would get to listen to it first. Even though mom was buying a copy, I insisted on my own copy of "A Night at the Opera" because I wanted to listen to it on new headphones I had just gotten for my birthday. When we got home she went to the hi-fi and I went to my room. With headphones on, I was induced even further into the "Bohemian Rhapsody" trance. The next hour or so was her either bursting into my room or me bursting into the living room with both of us asking if the other had listened to certain tracks on the album and how amazed we were at how good it was. Since then, anytime "Bohemian Rhapsody" played on the car radio, we would sing along at the top of our lungs (as did everyone else in America; which made that scene in "Wayne's World" all the more funny and special) I still have my original copy, as does mom.

Your reaction is as rare and wonderful as the music. Let me explain how great your video is, how far back second place is, and why it is such a surprise: 1. You didn’t stop the video. Other reactors stop for parts and miss the whole, moving, breathing creation that Queen gave us. Thank you! 2. Yours was the fourth or fifth Bohemian Rhapsody reaction video I saw. I bet it was the same for most of your other viewers. If your initials are E.B., you are a dapper college student in Lagos, Nigeria. So the KZfaq computer thought we might be too foreign (and many of us too old) to like, comment or subscribe. Your competitors are in Europe and the US, where the social media connections are thick and strong. The old, white foreigners hope that the music of our youth can still stir young souls. And we see encouraging signs for a few videos. But then we see - 3. YOUR FACE! All that emotion from Mercury’s voice and May’s guitar was written all over your face, your posture, your breathing! I’ve never seen anyone as moved by it as you were. You were barely holding on because you were processing volumes more than anyone else. You were hearing a whole new genre played at the highest level. It other reaction videos the KZfaqr is a surprised and pleasantly confused listener. You were a fully immersed participant, riding the monster wave exactly as Freddie Mercury wanted. And speaking of Mr. Mercury, did you know that - 4. Freddie Mercury is from Africa. He was born Farokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, just off the coast of Tanzania. Yes, that is the other side of a huge continent from you, but that just makes our story more far-flung and unlikely. And of course rock music is a great grandchild of your shores. Nobody knows why the English are so good at it. 5. So we happily drape the gold medal around your neck because no other human has run such a complete marathon in five minutes fifty-five seconds. The second place reactor is still miles from the stadium. I don't think he is going to finish. If I were a little closer than California I would buy you a beer and ask about your studies, how you listen to music in languages you don't speak (Arabic, Mandarin, Thai, Portuguese) and how everything is communication. I'd ask about the structure of your videos, about race and the imaginary thief. And when the pints were gone I'd shake your hand and say that I saw Queen in 1978, but I'm not going to tell you about it because you know Queen better than I do in the only way that matters. On behalf of thousands, it was a pleasure to meet you. All the best - Peter
@Serai35 жыл бұрын
Most reactors stop their videos because leaving a song to play all the way through puts the video at risk of suspension. If you break the song up, the algorithm isn't as likely to pick it up as a copyright violation.

I can remember my brother coming home from the Record Exchange and turning his stereo all the way up to play his new record while I was trying to watch TV. I was so angry that I was going to try to forcibly turn it down, but as I was walking towards the stereo, I started realizing that the song playing was the most beautiful thing I ever heard. I Sat down and experienced the rest of the song, when it was over, I sat there in a daze. Somehow my father had come in the room unnoticed, he also intended on turning it down, but when I came to my senses he was sitting right next to me looking just as perplexed as I was by what we had just heard.. That song was BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY!l

BMan, your expressions are so precious. Love and continued hearing more Queen. Reading the lyrics is very revealing. Originally the radios in UK said this song was too long, Freddie went to the stations and charmed the DJ’s into playing BH. The BH video was made solely by the band with some lights and a small stage. Being well into my 60’s I get try joy from watching the younger generations watch and listen. Practically every song they wrote is a hit. What a beautiful journey you stepped into. Good luck and God bless.

Late to the party but I had to pass on a heart-felt thanks to you for uploading this video: The look on your face and reaction made me so happy - as a 50-something Brit I'm so familiar with Queen it's hard to appreciate how utterly amazing this song is. Thank you again for bringing that sense of amazed wonder back to me. I sincerely hope you continue to dig out these gems for yourself, there's plenty more!

I loved the movie when I first saw it, but now I'm not so enamoured of it. The portrayal of Freddie as a self-indulgent guy who showed up late for work and slagged off is completely wrong - he was widely known for his perfectionism and professionalism. I don't care much about the timeline issues, as that always has to be messed with to fit the constraints of film, but I don't know if I can forgive the way the film disrespects him that way.

Just listen to the Best of Queen album - I think that's pretty much the playlist and it's one where, if you hear one, you're geared up for the next one. According to Terry Pratchet, any tape when left in the car for more than two weeks, turns into "The Best of Queen" and the only explanation as to why every car in the '80s had a copy.

This is probably the best reaction video that I've seen so far. It's perhaps because my reaction to hearing and viewing this video was similar, especially after doing my research about Freddie Mercury and Queen. I find myself wishing that i had existed back when Queen was at it's prime. I am the biggest Freddie Mercury fan, like it's unreal how much i admire him for everything that he was. I am blown away by his talent. Geez i get goosebumps any time i express this. I get extremely sad when i think about how this man died, and wish his life wasn't cut so short. There is great music being made today but nothing is able to move me as much as this. It's just incredible. I also am a big Michael Jackson fan as well. Anyways, i really enjoyed your video. Hope you get a ton more views :)
