I've seen a general narrative among metal fans that it has an opposite effect of what you'd think, many people use it to relax, find some catharsis, vent negative emotions, and funnily enough a recent study found that surgeons perform their jobs better when listening to AC/DC... Now that's not exactly Slipknot, but it seems there is something beneficial about hard rock and metal.

"For some reason, this kind of music calms me down" Absolutely. It's so hard to explain this to people who can't get past the aggressive and driving sound to this kind of music. I used to fall asleep to metal music. Even the people who can appreciate, or "stand", this genre of music couldn't understand how. I have ADHD, and it's similar to how stimulants calm me down, despite how they effect most people.

You are not alone. I like to say that there is a song for every season. And much like the weather where I'm from, your mood can run the whole gamut in a single day! I think the lesson here is that music is a tool. The same song I listen to for inspiration can also be a song of calming or even just like a friend who understands my needs. It's all in how you utilize the music, not necessarily the actual aesthetic of what you are listening to. Although that can also play a part. And let's not forget memories attached with certain songs, so I'm and so forth. Music is such an integral part of the human condition it's nearly impossible to truly define. If it sounds good, play that shit!

@@derekfletcher8934 A say this all the time! Music is definitely a tool. I often compare it to drugs. There's a time and place and they work differently on different people. The song is about Corey having migraines, the house serves as a metaphor for his head with all the people running in and breaking it being the pain from headaches. That's why in the parts where he's kinda talk-singing he's sounding like he's got his hand on his own head to alleviate pressure, and the line 'I push my fingers into my eyes' also has the same relief-effect. You neeeeed to see their performance of Spit It Out from Download Festival 2009, that one is legendary.

You've heard their more radio friendly tunes, which are pretty good, but you should check out The Heretic Anthem, Disasterpiece, or People = Shit, all of which are from their Iowa album, easily their craziest and darkest album. That's what many Slipknot fans consider their best album, and those songs are fan favorites.

The music video, directed by Mark Klasfeld and Tony Petrossian, cost between $300,000 and $500,000 and was recorded on March 27, 2004. It was shot in Des Moines, Iowa, at a fan's house that was due for renovation, and features the band performing inside the house surrounded by dozens of fans both inside and outside the house, which gets destroyed in the process as the fans crash through the windows and walls. In the aftermath, the family asked the band to replace an extensive list of objects and fittings that were damaged or destroyed during the shoot. Roadrunner Records provided the family with roughly $50,000 as compensation.Prior to filming, the production told the crowd only to act wild but not destroy the house; this rule was left unheeded. Midway through the shooting, the band and fans were asked to avoid jumping around too much, as it would have resulted in either the floor caving in or the entire house collapsing. Fans were also told to take extreme caution around Craig Jones as the nails in his mask may injure them. It was revealed later that the band had performed the song several times while the crowd vandalized the house, and the resulting footage was edited to produce the video. Shawn Crahan recalls that the band "asked our real fans to be in the video and people came from all over", adding that "it meant so much to us. We weren't really supposed to destroy that house - but we did it anyway. Another plus for that song is that I get to beat the fuck out of my keg. What else could you want?" One of the fans was a teenage British national who used some of his savings and his grandmother's money to travel to Iowa from England for the shoot and was accommodated by Corey Taylor after being denied a check-in at a local hotel due to his age. Two incidents occurred during the filming; two fans were injured by broken glass but were treated on the scene by paramedics stationed during filming and a doctor who lived in the neighborhood where the shoot occurred, while a group of youths were arrested by police present during filming for using baseball bats to vandalize a Ford Taurus rented by the band's record label to bring fans to the shoot's location.

I don't see anyone's mentioned it so I figured I'd let you know the backstory to this music video! So this was actually filmed at a fan's house that was going to be renovated. Slipknot put out word they were going to film it and asked fans to show up if they wanted to be part of it, thinking they'd maybe get a few dozen. Fans showed up from everywhere, most notably a kid flew all the way in from Great Britain! All the destruction you see is not scripted; the film crew and director had only asked them to act wild but they ended up legitimately destroying everything. They ended up paying the homeowners back for the damages. It was something like $500k lol

That was very sweet and thoughtful what you said about Paul and Joey. They were great friends. And they were two of the very first guys to form the band along with percussionist Shawn. Welcome to the world of Slipknot. I’ve been a fan since I was 13 in 1999. Seen them about 8 times. They are an amazing band. Here’s some songs to check out… Eyeless, Purity, Prosthetics, Skin Ticket, Gently, People=Shit, Everything Ends, IOWA, The Nameless, Butchers Hook, Child of Burning Time Those are just few of my favorites. Hope to see some reactions for these songs. Enjoy 🤘

Then imagine being an absolute master of your craft, founding member of an amazing band, and a drummer that's influenced so many of the artists that came after you. ...and receiving that diagnosis. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Rest well, Joey. Fun fact about this video, the house they're using in it belonged to a fan who said it was being demolished, instead of it being traditionally destroyed, slipknot bought it from said fan and lots of fans heard about it and went to the said house to destroy it for the video. An old buddy of mine swears he's in the video but I've yet to ever see him in it even after seeing the video hundreds of times. Slipknot was the first metal band I ever heard in middle school and even though I don't actively listen to their newer stuff their older tracks still get me pumped up whenever spotify shuffles to them.

I was introduced to Slipknot (and metal for that matter) around the age of 11 or 12 so about 2 decades at this point (first track I ever heard was either "Surfacing" or "Heretic Anthem" can't remember). Started listening to them right before Vol. 3 dropped. Vol. 3 is around the time that the overall sound of the band if you will changed became less aggressive. Iowa the second album is said to be the heaviest most aggressive (which I 100% agree with). There are a couple songs off of the 4th album I'll listen to but other than that they just never felt like the same band in my personal opinion. Don't get me wrong I will listen to just about anything off the first three albums on repeat all day any day but All Hope Is Gone and later just doesn't have the same effect on me. 2 years after A.H.I.G. dropped, and a year before the next album The Grey Chapter, is when we lost Paul Gray the original bassist. Which may have had something to do with why I'm not as much of a fan of their later work. Joey Jordison the original drummer (well one of the three drummers, he was the one on the actual drum set) left the band due to health issues back in 2013. He passed July 26 2021.

Definitely want to be around for the ride of discovering Slipknot. I've been a fan since Iowa was released. Sadly didn't know them from the very beginning but they've always been a favorite of mine once I discovered them. Even Corey Taylor's other band, Stone Sour, I really enjoy the sound of. He's just got a very good and surprisingly wide vocal talent. As for Slipknot, I'm one of the few people that feel like they've gotten better over time. While a different kind of intensity, they haven't really gotten any less intense, especially considering even the earlier albums had some really melodic and creepy songs that are mirrored in their later songs. I do feel like I relate completely to the lyrics of their most recent album, We Are Not Your Kind, and it's turned into one of my favorite from them. I would suggest giving some of them a check out, as others have already mentioned. They're all great in my opinion but the ones with videos are probably the most popular picks.

You like this and it calms you because it gives you permission to unleash your frustrations in a healthy way. And even if that just means listening to this song, you come out the other side feeling like a pressure cooker whose pressure was slowly released...and now you can relax. Unfortunately, this is a band with few great songs. But they have a handful of really good songs.

I have definitely heard of them but never listened to them until this review. I was somewhat curious to what they sounded like because yesterday they had a concert at the Arena I work at. They have a crazy set up because they had like 12 to 13 semi trucks worth of stuff for thier concert. They also bring a small museum with them. They have coveralls the members have woren, some of their masks they wore, some of their instruments they have used and some other stuff. The museum they bring with them was really cool. I also heard the sound check and at some point I think they might of played Duality but didn't sing. Their live music is really loud. My chest was vibrating when they where playing their instruments and some of the decks where chairs are behind the Hockey Walls/Dasher Walls were vibrating as well. I was listening to them live practicing for about 20 minutes or so while we were working on the floor making some changes that needed to be done before the crowds arrived for the concert. When my shift was done after we completed what we needed to my ears sounded like I had been at a concert, it was crazy. I work at one of the Top 10 Best Event Arenas in the world at this time that opened last October in Seattle. The Arena is called Climate Pledge Arena and it is an awesome venue. If you ever have a chance to see a concert or show there I would highly recommend it because the sound is incredible and the Arena is a sight to see.

Slipknot isn't typically my cup of tea, but I'll listen to them whenever I'm around other people that are playing their songs. I definitely want to suggest a couple of tracks. Disasterpiece (the whole Iowa album actually), and Solway Firth. And maybe Surfacing.

Because you mentioned you like the drumming I recommend to you to listen to the blister exists by slipknot. Sadly there is no video as far as I know. But a great song in my opinion. It is from the same album as this one.

If you want to her the two extremes of Corey's voice check out some of the tracks off of Iowa for the screams (I recommend "Disasterpiece") then look up Slipknot: "Snuff" Acoustic or Corey's other band Stone Sour for the clean vocals ("Song #3" the acoustic version).

I'm sure it's already been said in a comment below, but the lead singer is Corey Taylor. He's got an amazing voice. He's also the lead singer for Stone Sour. You should check out both of them in back to back videos. It's pretty insane the level of talent he has.

If MTV ever pulls their head out of their *ss, they should give you a show. You could singlehandedly bring them back.

Always fun to see someone discover Slipknot. If you're going down the Corey Taylor rabbit hole, don't forget to check out Corey's other band Stone Sour. More hard rock than metal, but still an awesome band. "Through Glass" is probably the most famous Stone Sour song, but the video for "Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I)" is super silly and fun. Also have 2 band suggestions for you to check out of 2 very different bands. First one is Trivium if you've never heard them before. Metal band with a nice mix of clean vocals/screams, great guitars, and their current drummer is inhumanly good. My personal favorite song of theirs is "Beyond Oblivion", but you can't go wrong with anything from their last 3 albums. Second suggestion is the rock/hard rock band "The Warning". 3 sisters from Mexico who are incredible songwriters, all 3 are great musicians(especially the drummer), and all 3 are good singers as well. If you've never heard them I suggest "Evolve" or their re-imagining (not a cover, they make the song unmistakably theirs) of "Enter Sandman" they did with Alessia Cara.
