Back when Hip Hop was FUN. Not completely G-rated, that's true. But fun. No cursing, or singing about shooting people, committing crimes, gangsters, or anything like that. No N words, B words, or anything like that.

This came out smack damn in the era of NWA, the Geto Boys etc. Hip Hop was maybe more varied then, there was room for hardcore street rhymes, and more considered and conscious stuff, as well as light hearted but funky tracks like Humpty here too.

There was plenty of cursing, but it just wasn’t every artist doing it and the most popular songs would be completely clean. But there were groups like NWA, artists like Just Ice, Schooly D, even LL Cool J’s “Walking w/a Panther” was very hardcore for the time

This was Tupac's first band! And that "Do me, baby" line that's repeated throughout this 1989 song is a sample from a 1980 Parliament song, "Let's Play House."

Same here! I was into hip-hop during this era and I’d put this album up against any other. Start to finish greatness. Freaks of the Industry is the best but not sure she’d make it through that one! 🤣

Back when Hip Hop was pure fun and super creative, with superb rhymes and flow! This was one of the best party songs for it's time. Everyone went nuts when this came on at a bar or club! Those were the days.

Humpty Hump was actually the alter-ego of one of the background 'singers' in the video (Shock G). If you look at the video again, you will the camera occasional pan to the real rapper (Shock G) who also raps as Humpty Hump...lol. Btw, the group, Digital Underground, is the one that gave Tupac his first chance in the music business. Tupac was one of their roadies, helping to carry equipment etc during their road trips. After a while, they let Tupac get in some verses in one or two of their later songs --- the first being "Same Song" from the movie soundtrack for "Nothing But Trouble". First time visitor to the channel.😊 This is one of my favorite rap/hip-hop songs ever. Hilariously funny and you can't stop moving to the rhythm. This song didn't get much airplay on Top 40 radio back then (it reached #11 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, but it was mostly due to its sales as it sold over a million copies), but just a couple of years ago it was used in a tax preparation software commercial. (Humpty Dumpty was in the hospital and asked an agent of the software company if legal fees were tax deductible since he was considering suing for copyright infringement, but then looked out his room's door and saw the doctors and nurses dancing in the hall to the song. He then admitted that the song was rather catchy.)

This was fun watching your face as the tune played, and could see you get into it. Most of tthe music they used on the album were samples from Parliment Funkadelic. Listen to the whole alum, it's great. Had a ball dancing to this music and seeing them perform live, the energy was off the hook Keep doin your thang Sister

Hey ya, this song reminds me of college. I used to hear it played on KDAY -- an AM radio channel broadcast out of Compton with a signal that traveled all the way to La Jolla where the university I attended is located. That's a distance of over 100 miles. The job I had back then often tasked me with driving the work truck on the sidewalks around campus, one fitted with an AM radio that I would tune to KDAY and crank out tunes like this and Public Enemy "Fight The Power". So picture a short white guy with really long brown hair pumping the hip-hop out the window of a small block Chevy truck creeping along the sidewalk on campus in the late 1980's while thousands of other students went their way walking to class. Tempus fugit!

Greg Jacobs personifies both Humpty and Shock G and gave 2pac a career and a dancer and hype man for Digital Underground, by their 2nd album Pac got featured rhymes which led to his solo. 2pac wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for Greg Jacobs.

Doowutchyalike is a song by Digital Underground. He has a line in it, “just grab em in the biscuits!” This was the hip hop version of Parliament Funkadelic who had a lot of innuendo in their music. Loved it when she connected the “In the 69 my Humpty nose will tickle your rear” 🥸 … those google lyrics are horrible use Genius at least LOL 2 Pas was in Digital Underground and the whole band performs a song called “Same Song” in the movie Nothing Bit Trouble. A 90s comedy.

I only found this song a week or so ago as I was delving deeper into oldschool hip hop, it's catchy! Added straight to my playlist. I read digital underground helped launch Tupacs career aswell which was interesting. Dope groove.

And there was 2Pac, walking past the camera in the opening seconds (0:02) of the video. After a security leads the way, Pac follows him, with Money-B - another backup dancer and Pac’s predecessor in Digital Underground - behind him. Following a few cuts, Humpty Hump enters surrounded by women. And “The Humpty Dance” begins in earnest.

I loved your reaction. Just for fun would you check out UK Groups like Steps, Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, Misteeq, Sugababes. In the UK they create them like assembly lines. They are also heavily influenced by American R & B.

Gregory Jacobs (Shock G): Alter ego Humpty with the fake nose, glasses and odd clothing very original, their music makes you move your butt even when you try not too! Tupac first started out in Digital Underground (1990-1991) another D.G. song to check out (Same Song, Feat. 2Pac) and made a guess appearance in the comedy movie" Nothing But Trouble" (1991) very funny!! take care and Keep on, keepin' on!
