I can't believe how this much project has changed over the now years its been in production, I still remember watching the first video back in 2020, I started following you because my mate got a 2cv at the ends of 2019. And since I know a bit about cars he let me drive it and fix what I could, I fell in love with the car and ever since then its been on my radar to buy one day. but I wanted to learn more about it and I found a channel run by a British bloke that had one as a daily driver, I learned a lot through it and cemented my passion for that car. I was in my apartment one day in the middle of the lockdown when that guy uploaded a video where I saw a 2 colored shell of a car that was, in full honesty, not very kind to the eye. the project became my go to watch at lunch whenever an episode was out, which I think was first at Wednesdays, then Fridays and today is on Sundays, I remember that second or third chapter where you grabbed like 3 bended tubes and where like: "looks like a car". well look at it now. thank you both for being a part of my lunch and teaching me so much! I'm exited to see where its going to end up!

You're gonna have a good little sports car when you get it balanced out with the peripherals whatnots and wiring.... just use some taller tires on the rear. remember a wrench is not a spanner and a spanner is not a wrench! Nice Work!
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard Жыл бұрын
I have different roll centers front to rear and all that jazz so in theory I shouldn't need larger tyres but in practice if there's a little too much oversteer then it would be handy for slowing the rear down but 🤞 it'll be fine as is

I don't believe that I could have resisted the urge to put a seat in the car, and have a view out the front. Nice work!! I know that you're much further along now, and I'll make this comment in your most recent installment, but Honda has a semi secret book that has a list of every nut, bolt, and washer, that they have available. The book lists them by dimensions and head type. Generally Honda has a 14mm flanged head on their 10mm bolts, so that might save some weight. Same for the nuts. It's really tough to find better hardware than Hondas have. Lastly, you have a lathe, so if you're really serious about reducing the weight of your hardware, you could gun drill the bolts, and just add a little dab of sealer at each end of the bolt to prevent water and debris from filling up the space. I know it's a bit tedious work, but if you're really serious about adding lightness!!

As a mechanic for decades I know his but other mechanics can't understand is when I try to explain it to them. It's best to tighten the arms on a drive on lift so you can get under and tighten he bolts at ride height. Not doing this can like he said ruin rubber bushings , but also change ride height. Happens a lot when doing Alignments where you lift a corner up, readjust and tighten control arm bolts while raised.

@@OliverPickard Btw, this is a very exciting project! My dad and I used to mess around with a Raid/Baja Buggy, with a turbocharged Chevy big block in it, when I was a kid. We were also an old VW air-cooled family, years ago, and had 7 different vintage VW's, at one time. My dad, and grandfather both worked their entire careers, as body die makers for GM, from 1949, til 1994. I was raised around racing, and all things automobile, really. Have you heard of Harald Mössler's Steyr - Puch BergSpyder? My dream machine is something like his amazing little hillclimb spyder.... (Loads of hillclimb videos of Harald and his car, here on YT) I have wanted one like his, since I was like 9 years old, when I saw it in a VW magazine my dad had. I just turned 50 this year.

Hi Oliver- SUPERB build! I'm working on a tube chassis with Miata suspension as well and having an awful time trying to find coilovers that will fit through the front upper control arm windows. It looks like you've found some that fit very tightly in the control arm. Could you share what coilovers those are, and if you have found any rub issues with the control arm as it goes through it's full range of motion? It looks like you have only millimeters of clearance! Anyhow, awesome work- subscribed!
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 9 ай бұрын
They are French EMC off road racing buggy coil overs and they fit with my geometry which uses ALOT more caster than a Miata and far less antidive (more details in ep47>50) however I did clearance the windows a little just to be sure
@sensorease
@sensorease 9 ай бұрын
@@OliverPickardThank you! I got ahead of myself as I was just too excited to see someone else doing this with a Miata front end! Having gone back and watched these videos, I wanted to ask- do you have a plan to brace these control arms in any way? it almost looks as though the clearancing took away some of the flange of the window, and I'd be concerned this would produce a nice spot for the control arm to bend? Also big respect to your dad for machining those upper suspension mount tubes- I've been agonizing over how I'm going to do that bit without a lathe! Thanks for the awesome and entertaining content!
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 9 ай бұрын
@dan3986 No support needed I didn't remove any strength from the arms and I used NB upper arms which are stronger anyway but because the Mosquito is so much lighter, mid engine and I'm on 14s there's considerably less stress going through them than there would be on a stock Miata.

Where are you going to put the battery?
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 16 күн бұрын
Theres a few different places things like the battery and screen wash bottle can go. The ideal is to put the car on scales and then place them like ballast where they can be most effective

you should put toyota style intake that uses a roof scoop maybe even add a turbo
@OliverPickard

It'll have a power to weight ratio that's just shy of an F40 it really doesn't need the weight of a turbo

@@OliverPickard that's cool I just mentioned so you can put your intake higher so it can breath more 🏆🏆💯💯 but other than that awesome build

It's scary to think that the K series Honda engines can EASILY put out over 600hp when you install a turbo!Do you have an estimated weight you're shooting for once this project is completed?
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard Жыл бұрын
With stock internals it's more like 450bhp No turbo here it really doesn't need it and would just add weight but it'll make excellent power around 265ish with a sub 620kg/1364lb weight
