First Time Playing WvW! | VB explores Guild Wars 2!

I am generally not a PvP kind of guy (especially in MMOs), but something about WvW in Guild Wars 2 just makes it pretty fun! I dive into it for the first time and get wrecked, naturally. I also offer my first impressions with the mode and the zones!

7:00 If you take damage and are counted as "in combat" and then zone out due to any effect from wvw you will be killed and count as being killed by the person that damaged you. It's to counter people who log out when they start getting ganked to avoid dying and depriving others of the kill.

whatever you do in other game modes, but specially in wvw you want to put the camera the most zoomed out as possible, lets you see more things. information is essential for survival in there. i know it feels good to look at what your toon is doing or their shininess, but wvw is a very rough place and it doesnt give a damn about shinyness hehe. everyone is just another bag. so always gotta watch your back to survive.

21:53 VB doesn't notice he's a big red dot on the enemy's map XD Also, in case you haven't noticed yet, the five dots above your HP is called Malice. It's the key mechanic for Deadeyes.

There are centaurs in WvW, in the alpine borderlands map top right corner with the hero point.

Nice run. As deadeye you'll want to stay standing and moving spamming rifle 2 on a target to confirm you're within range. Kneel when you decisively want to immob or need the extra range poke. Take shadowstep for a free escape/reposition. If you want you can run scorpion wire to pull foes for the lolz.

So... I'm going to sound old, but about the vistas in PvP. Back when the game came out WvW was part of world map completion. It was a huge pain as you had to get into every keep/castle for poi at the time... (still did it though XD)

I remember those days, luckily when I started working on legendaries I was already in pretty good wvw guild on Jade Quarry

Wvw map completion was great because it exposed people to the content. I wouldn't have got into wvw back in the day without it

my only 100% map character did it back then. it gave you a sense of accomplishment.

@3:30 that chest was from completion of a daily. The pvp/wvw/core pve dailies of which you only need to complete 3 of the 12 to get 2g daily for low effort. In the Edge of the Mist the teams are randomized. EotM was supposed to be a test ground for WvW future balance patches and changes.

Great video! A tip of advice. Use your elite skill defensively, since they can't touch you when you cast it. Don't waste it on mobs.

That red line = out of range is mind-blowing for me though I have 10k hrs playtime but had no clue about that xd. Btw You could learn how to break stun it will help you survive.

My favorite game mode on my favorite class. Thief is so fun, gr3at for solo roaming and havoc. If you are interested in joining the big zerg and commander though you might wanna try a differnt class better suited for zerg fighting,.

About ANet pandering to PvE players by removing WvW map completion. I don’t feel this is correct. It happened at the same time that they added the Desert map (before then they had the central map and 3 identical copies of the other maps). At that time they were planning to create more maps and rotate between them. However if you were doing map completion and they switched out maps then you would not be able to finish that map until they brought it back, which could be weeks or months depending on how many new maps they created and how fast they rotated between them. It was better to discontinue required map completion than to add more required maps with extra wait times to complete them, as well as it being unfair to people doing map completion under the new rules. Anet dropped the idea after they made the new Desert map and WvW players were vocal about how much they disliked it.

The whole forcing people thing is a poor argument, a WvWer is forced to PvE to get Aurora and Vision.

@ 25:37 there are add-ons that can help with that, I recommend getting Blish HUD, one of the mods for it is an overlay changeable range circles, can set the distance and size of the circle.

Yep back in the day if you want to craft a legendary weapon you need gift of exploration and you need to complete all WvW maps, i have to wait a whole month for just one PoI now is lot easier hahaha 😂

A big tip to learn the combat in the game is to learn your classes Rotation. definitely harder to do with Deadeye as you need to be stationary, but for other Power DPS classes its useful for learning when to dodge and still dish out the damage and adapting a rotation to the situation

Remember to press Tab to target nearby enemies in your direction. if you dont see any damage numbers, you arent targetting anything

Pve player myself but crafting leggies sadly at the point i have to wvw more given making the rings and armor. All thats left in pve is a hammer for my untamed. Given i made Pharus, Ad Inf, Vision, Aurora ad unlocked Seasons of Dragons necklace for my ranger main.

Nice to see you finally try my favourite game mode 😁 Looks like the zerg you ran with was pretty unorganized though. I'd definitely suggest to try out some more cöordinated groups aswell. Having like 40 ppl with well balanced wvw builds each providing key elements towards your zerg. All zerg members on discord listening to a competent driver (commander) is a total gamechanger. Although some more serious wvw squads can be somewhat elitist/ rude, i'd definitely suggest you give it a shot (normally there's atleast 1 up during prime time). In case you'd rather have a video to watch i'd suggest kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMeCerh0vczVloU.html It's an old vid, but the commander is still very famous till this day (even though he quit playing a long time ago). He was considered the best driver in the first 2 years of gw2 and was actually world first to get ultimate Dominator (250.000 kills in wvw)

if you see commander Pointy Dexter online follow him, he's amazing he leads you to many victories, almost always he uses purple tag

lol my guild is part of an alliance of guilds formed back in GW1...and we focus on anyone on our tags or our alliances' tags ON SIGHT when we run. Of course that will be less of a thing when World Restructuring actually goes into alliances and we all are fighting on the same team lol

There is zero reason to do mapcompletion in wvw you do not even get rewarded by it, you get nothing. So there is no force. There was the first years but gone since long now. If you spend enugh time in WvW and do the warclaw collection then tou can use the Warclaw outside of WvW as well. It is slow for PvE but still faster then walking. Also there are Centaur camp on the upper right side of the alpine borders =P
