Thanks for helping us veteran GW2 players experience again the delights of encountering many parts of GW2 for the first time. I have definitely taken many of it for granted.

The average player when trying out GW2: starts off normally, progressing in a chill and casual way A streamer when trying out GW2: starts off normally, gets streamsniped, progresses with a group of passionate veterans playing as walking beacons of blinding light in order to get overwhelmed with silly stuff like airplane mode and bobbleheads, and totally obliterates any supposed challenge along the way. Best community 10/10

Just came back to the game myself. I had a hard time getting into it before but I am LOVING it now. Working on my 2nd character to 80. I think it's one of if not the best mmo's out right now. Great video!

Welcome back to GW2! On the movement thing, where you go slower when strafing sideways, and even slower while going backwards, GW2 is big on movement feeling realistic (with the exception of being able to change direction while jumping/falling etc). When you think about it, a person can't run sideways or backwards as fast as they can going fowards :D And oh lol at the people in stream coming at you with all the weird and wonderful stuff among the novelty tonics and toys in the game xD AHAHAHAHAHAA! Your reaction to the Aviator box and Bobblehead tonic was priceless! Make sure to log in this April 1st to see what the Anet prank is this year (Bobblehead and Aviator mode are both April fools pranks from earlier years they brought back in with toys you can place for people to use), last year's was GIANT INVISIBLE CATS looming over the 6 major cities, and if you put on the special tonic you got, you could see them and you were also followed everywhere by normal size cats that blinked in and out of nowhere. When you eventually reach a worldboss called "Drakkar" (it's during Icebrood Saga stuff) ask someone to put down the Bobblehead tonic because it's flipping HILLARIOUS! (Or at least fight it normally first time, then 2nd time ask for the bobblehead) xD Cool! You came across one of the Devs! You'll see them around the game (though obviously they don't stick their Anet guild and special tag on all the time). There's some hidden achievements for raiding with one, smushing one in sPvP, or smushing one of them in WvW :D If you like chocobos, there's a raptor skin "Roadrunner" that you can literally dye to look like a chocobo. I know there's at least one player ingame (and probably more) who has made an Asura with armor that dyed right makes them look like a FF Black Mage, and has that raptor skin dyed to look like a chocobo. "Jump down" oh lol you fell for that.. literally! Regarding the pile of people who jumped off and went splat deliberately for people to res them, that's a common thing to see especially when someone is asking for help with part of the collections to unlock the Skyscale Mount, as one of them requires reviving a player/npc 100 times or so. You're not boring people with your exploration, because we all remember the time when we were you and we were the ones gawking at everything. Nostalgia! :) The overall style of the game remains the same, the graphics don't increase in realism or anything like that, but the scenery effects/skyboxes improve hugely once you start going through the expansions, and improve with each one. Once you're past the core game story and Living Story season 2 the side-by-side cutscene convos are replaced by the actual npcs walking around and talking in front of you. (honestly, get the living story seasons, 3, 4, and Icebrood are like mini expansions, and you need Season 4 if you want the rollerbeetle and skyscale mounts, which belong to that season. Season 3 has a mastery which includes a powerful 5th downed state skill along. Season 4 of course has the 2 mounts, but also has a mastery track that gives you additional skills to use to boost your mount, and Icebrood Saga has a mastery in it where you can unlock a stealth skill to use while mounted. Bascially they're completely worth getting) :) Yup, you're recognised as a local hero at this stage, but not a global one yet :D Thanks for the vid! Was super fun to watch. Also, if you think the map area you've seen is big, ummmm.. Next time you play, open your map and zoom all the way out.

This was me a couple years ago too. Tried it but not anything past making a couple characters and running around the starter area for each and wasn't overly impressed. It all seemed dated to me since I was playing BDO at the time. Just was trying out New World too and then had some friends pull me back to try GW2. Am utterly hooked and having way more fun than ever have in an MMO. So much of it is just so well done.

Welcome back to gw2, very nice to have more people love the game. Try all characters and classes, the one you think might fit your personality might not and it will surprise you. Maybe other MMo games you pick a specific, that might suit and it might not. So try them all. Have fun!!

Welcome back to Tyria. I get that you already got a lot of tips from your stream viewers and you already got overwhelmed, so I don't dive into all the stuff. There is tons of stuff to learn, just take your own pace and don't rush. But on commanders and Mentors: These tags are usually used to organize map wide meta events or to highlight areas relevant for dailies or other achievements. For example your dailies displayed on the right side usually include finishing 4 events in an area or doing a jumping puzzle (among other things). These tags are used in these cases to display where the dynamic events happen or the location of the jumping puzzle, often with a friendly mesmer to allow you to skip tha actual jumping puzzle (you don't need to take their offer though if you like to tackle it yourself). On some maps (especially level 80 maps) there are meta events, which sometimes require coordination between players on different parts of the map (like killing several bosses at almost the same time). It is not uncommon to see three or four groups of 40+ players each working together on this - so really massive stuff going on there you rarely see in any other MMO. FF14 and GW2 are working great together as alternatives while you wait for new content. You might want to look up Xandrii here on youtube ("Xanblast Productions"), another FF14 who started GW2 just last year and is balancing both games. Oh, an that avaiator and big heads are april fools day things. Arenanet is great at this, with the super adventure box being a whole game mode they introduced and expanded upon. You should definetelly check it out this year.

I've been playing GW2 since 2012. I left WoW for it and never looked back. I played WoW since vanilla all the way to the end of WotLK but the continuous grind for gear, it always felt like I was on the bread line. Don't get me wrong GW2 has plenty of endgame content, raiding, fractals, world bosses, new zones and plenty of gear and legendaries to get and the combat alone along with all your talents will require skill to keep you busy, but the community feels so different, and they are helpful. I have had moments of burn out but I am always happy and excited to come back and pick up where I left off.

Welcome back to the community! There's already so much great advice below, just go at your own pace. There's no wrong way to play and progress, as there's admittedly a lot for new players/returning vets to get through even in core. I can't wait to see more of your journey in Tyria! Also, cat ears are totally a thing in this game for Y'shtola 😉

the backround sounds depend on your class. for example necromancers hear chimes and dark whispers while theives get sneaky footsteps an people exclaiming from sneak attacks to their back. warriors get giant battle noises while elementalists get nature sounds based around fire water earth and air. also you can click on your next level on the xp bar to see what unlocks are coming up the game combines grinding and questing by auto picking up quests and autoturning in them

I've been all over so many MMO's over the years and GW2 is the one i always kept installed. Back into it again and it's been great. Welcome to Tyria

Welcome to Tyria! There are a lot of things to do in GW2 (both pre-endgame and post-endgame (max level)). Pretty much everything gives XP (you still get XP after reaching max level only then the XP goes towards leveling mastery lines (unlocked after reaching level 80) that are then completed with mastery points collected throughout the world). Then there are jumping puzzles, have fun with those, some are easy, some are dangerous, some are challenging and time-gated, and some of these JPs are required for map completion because they have vistas or hero points or both at the end). The expansions' and living world seasons' maps just add more to the list (and add more quality of life features such as gliding (safe falling/flying - where allowed) and mounts - where allowed). I look forward to seeing you progress through the story and seeing you experience all that Tyria has to offer.

Welcome to GW2. I have been playing now for about 6 months. Came from WoW and I have to say that GW2 is doing everything right in a game. It's so fun and there is so much to do in the game. And the graphics imo are absolutely breathtaking especially once you get to EoD in Cantha.

Please don't give up on the game it is a lot of fun.... It is hard when lots of people throw lots of things at you at once.... Just go explore take your time, ask questions as you need to, but don't get wrapped up in everything that everyone throws at you.

If you get tired of the various things your Avatar says when they use a skill then open 'Options,' go under 'Sound Options,' and enable the 'Disable Player Chatter' option and it goes away.

Been playing this game off and on since WoW's Legion (mostly during burn-outs) and started playing more seriously during BFA. Was honestly shocked when I realized how old my account actually was. Apparently my account was made sometime before August 2015, since I could use guild banks and didn't have an authenticator at the time (apparently you need an authenticator to withdraw from guild banks, unless the account was made before August 28, 2015). Had an account that long but didn't have any characters on it. As I type this, I'm tempted to get on and get back to the grind.

Sylvari have the best level 1-max storyline, they're adorable, and they're _bioluminescent._ My main is a strong birch! A Thief Prestige Class can unlock Sniper Rifles. Another can do martial arts with a Staff, and the newest one can do _shadow magic_ with a scepter!

Guild Wars 1 had the language option called "Bork! Bork! Bork!" that they took out around when they released the first expansion. It basically reads as if you handed all the voice lines to the Swedish Chef from the Muppets. Fireball read something like Thees speul sheoots a boll of feyer thet deals [100] demmage to yeur eeneemies.

No time to read all of the comments you received for this video, so I'm probably repeating what another 50 players have already said. Take your time exploring and learning your profession's skills and weapon choices. There is literally so much content in this game, it will take you many months to put a dent in half of it. Don't rush, and enjoy the journey. Ask for help when you get stuck, or confused and I strongly suggest you join a guild, as playing with friends is way more enjoyable than playing solo. Welcome to GW2, it was fun watching your first time reactions to many of the games features.

The real strength of GW2 is the horizontal level progression. While the core game is free if a player has all the expansions and Líwing World Seasons then at current there are 26 open-world endgame maps besides Orr to do things on. A game with vertical progression will only have a few, often two, and that's whatever is the most relevant pr the expac/patch. The amount of stuff there is to do if a player has everything is more than can be done in a day and moist maps just less optimal, however, you can progress towards the same goal, however, you have the ability to do diverse activities. And the 26 maps is just then open-world stuff, aside from that there are tons of other stuff you can do, like PvP, WvW, Fractals, Raids, and a piece of emergent gameplay in the form of Roller Beetle Racing.

They have made a major graphics update since launch. I believe GW2 is the best MMORPG in existence.

I went with GW2 back in the day as it suits a casual player better IMO. Less grind, more co-op community...

i am puzzled as to how there are only two races, i was playing not long ago and there were 5 races.

Catch me getting agitated that all the chests and things are all above the map untouched for at least the first 30 minutes. And I know most people don't, but if you ever get the chance to: You should occasionally read the messages you get after you do a heart quest from above the map. They really add to the adventure experience, it's like receiving a wonderful little letter that tells you how much you helped them. I also love how so much of this is game is voice acted. Most other MMO's feel so dead because of the lack of Voice Acting.

I love it when I saw Darkbringerr sniping you, he is a really cool ANET employee, in general employees of the company have their own logo showing... but also there are specific achievements that are by doing content with one employee... I have 2 of them, a special place for "killing the creator" one... that one actually makes me feel bad cuz I killed the poor employee 4 times by stunning him to death... the first one for me, the other 3 making sure people get the achievement.

"I'm getting distracted, and I need to keep going", he says. Getting distracted is basically the whole game! There's so much to do it feels like you'll never run out. Believe it or not, the story is pretty decent once you get past the "personal story" stuff, which you actually don't have to do at all if you don't want, but it gives some background on why your character is so respected. I just came back after several years playing FFXIV myself, and while the story here isn't THAT caliber, it's still one of the best in MMO's. And then there's the combat. I wish there was an immunity period after being knocked down/back, but other than that, it's a blast. I'm enjoying your video's, so I subscribed.

Guild Wars has always went to extreme lengths on April Fools day. ... at least till the ridiculousness of some of the pranks made enough players complain. The bobble head and aviator were things you logged into one April 1st, and were later sold as novelties that could be placed and used by other players such as yourself. I remember one year in GW1 you logged into have every single character of yours gender flipped. Another year all your characters were stick figures. Another year all characters were cute little Chibi Gwen dollies(A popular NPC). Sadly, April First is never as fun as it used to be.

The heart where it says kill the bandits here's a hot tip don't stay outside go kill the bandits in a cave you get it done faster. There is a boss spawning in that cave as well :) Skirtts are the dumbest race. Asuras how are the technologically superior race when you play at the Asura starting area and u rip out the wires from the bots if you are Asura you get totally different options than if you were a human for example. I really like Asuras they r small and smart and they have that sassiness to them. Like anything tech related they look down up on other races like oh don't you get this? Poor you :D

People pushing players through story to endgame ruin the experience for new players.

Well, it looks like you were having fun. I really cannot stand watching this any longer. It's definitely nice to have one or two people who run around with you and explain stuff as it happens, but this flaunting of shiny stuff is so annoying. You can only ever have the magical experience of venturing into Tyria for your very first time once and some of the people who just want to show off and shower you in ridiculous stuff and infodumps take this away from you. This seems to be the bane of the streamer. Your audience will not allow you to immerse yourself in the game.
