The 1967 film clip with Charles Hawtrey about the French Revolution is "Don't lose your head". It was the 13th of the 31 "Carry on" comedy films. First of the series made by Rank that originally didn't have a "Carry on" Prefix title. It's a spoof of the story of the classic story of "The Scarlet Pimpernel". Very British like Seaside naughty cards. The comedy in those films was full of double entendres where it's the film viewers who think things are rude even when they are not.

John Cleese is the most repeated guy here. When the ashes were kicked over the comedy team of Monty Python was being interviewed, and Graham Chapman (the best actor among the troupe), who was one of them, had passed away. (Cleese doing the Eulogy is priceless). The Pythons were masters of absurd humour throughout the TV series. They have also produced three movies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Pythons Life of Brian, and Monty Pythons Meaning of Life. There is also a compilation of sketches in Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Cleese was in some Bond Movies, and A fish Called Wanda with Michael Palin (one of the Pythons), Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Kline. Cleese (along with one of his now ex wives) Connie Booth wrote and played in Fawlty Towers. All of which are worth watching. As for the rest of them, all have had stellar careers, in comedy and film, and Terry Jones who tended to direct, also wrote academic history books. All very talented. Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) was in Blackadder which ran for 4 series spanning a large bit of English history. He was also in the Johnny English movies, as well as doing odd bits of stand up. And was a member of the troupe in the TV sketch series Not the Nine O'Clock News. Also very funny. And Miriam Margolyes. Well everyone loves her. A national treasure. The Fawlty Towers clips are from the episode "The Germans". It was made in 1975, only 30 years after the end of WWII, so still sensitive for Germans, hence "Don't mention the war".

John Cleese is the tall guy with the moustache. He was one of the Monty Python's Flying Circus team, one of whom had died in that clip. He was famously as an incompetent hotelier in Fawlty Towers. He has made films too. Fish Called Wanda was one. It's hard to follow when you don't know the shows they come from.

Bean) stars as Edmond Blackadder in one of the funniest series ever to come from our shores. You really should watch them, start at series 2 as series 1 is a bit naff.

Fawlty Towers, Blackadder “goes forth”, till death us do part and the office are superb British comedies. When Alf Garnett goes into the local shop to buy his tobacco and the shopkeeper tries to get Alf to pay his recently deceased wifes’ outstanding bill. It is so full of things you could never say today.

I find Ricky Gervais’s stand up to be too bitter and self-congratulatory, tries too hard for outrage, and lavishes in his own, self-attributed cleverness. His best work, for me, is with his various TV Series. He’s got talent, but it’s better delivered in this format.
