You should definitely check out the [Live @ SiriusXM] | version of Nothing Compares 2 U. The audio is so much better and the performance is much more intimate. Chris really pours his heart & soul into the Sirius version and you can feel every note he sings.

Absolutely Agree. I appreciate his live crowd work... his live cover of A Day in the Life when he turns his single acoustic into the dissonance that the Beatles sounded with two takes of a half orchestra... and also Thank You (in Sweden, Led Zep cover that makes the original pale are amazing... but that small studio session is damn special.

Please don't think Chris Cornell is just a cover artist. He not only was the lead singer for two legendary bands, Soundgarden and Audioslave, he wrote or co-wrote most of the songs.

It’s hard to go wrong with the late, great Chris Cornell. RIP. For a varied mix of his work, there’s the classic Black Hole Sun when he fronted Soundgarden; Like a Stone when he was with Audioslave; and a combo deal of him and Eddie Vedder as Temple of the Dog and listen to their song named Hunger Strike.

Prince wrote this beautiful song. You should check out his version. His estate released an official video that they set to early rehearsals of him and The Revolution. There are also great live versions that he has done.

Britt, The instrument is a Cello and that is Brian Gibson who is playing it. I have seen Chris twice doing his solo career and just like the video its just Chris and Brain Gibson playing the Cello as accompaniment and he sings all of his songs that are rearranged for this type of unplugged version and its was the best show I have ever been to. This was about 4 years before he passed when he was doing his last solo tours before the got back together with Soundgarden. Love the reaction.

Then Sinaid O’Conner covered it and also had a hit with it. If you want to hear Prince’s version it is on the album called “Prince Originals” , which is a post humus release of some of his demos that he wrote for other artists. Plus Prince often sang this in his live concerts…

So sad that he's not with us anymore, he was such an amazing treasure to the music world. He will always be missed. I'm glad we live in an Era where we can come to watch him perform (KZfaq) and re-live some of his performances. RIP Chris you're missed.

I think you articulated it quite well. Conflicted is definitely a part of his emotional singing aspect for sure. This guy had an amazing range and I do believe he was one of the greatest singers of our generation eneration. He's got tons of incredible original stuff including from this same live concert. But I would say from this same live concert, you absolutely have to hear his cover of John Lennon's imagine. It's just incredible and I believe that it closes this show.

Prince is the originator. He wrote it but it was Sinead O"Connor who made it famous to the world with her version. Chris has always had a mystique about him and I think it's due to his long battle with depression. He and the rest of the Grunge bunch used to hang out in Olympia,Washington,where I'm from,and they were just guys. They'd play in the warehouse in an alleyway there aand we'd all gather to listen. He was sort of quiet even then,and would wall himself up wherever he was living at the time. Depression can do that to you.

Originator is PRINCE Sinbad O'Connor made it an international hit. Prince let her run with it because it was so good. FYI there is an even better version by Chris in a studio.

I love listening to how people describe Chris and his voice. It's all the words I can never find since I was 18 years old back in the late '80s and was introduced to Soundgarden. This was written by Prince originally and licensed to Sinead. That was a cello solo. I believe the cello to be tuned to the heart.

Chris at his best. His acoustic sessions are next level. Check out MJ's Billie Jean that Chris does. Such a talent gone way to soon. RIP Chris. You are missed. Written by Prince Sinead O'Conner bought this song to the world in the early 90's. May she rest in peace. She passed away earlier this year. And of course so is Prince no longer with bus. Even my reference to MJ's, Billie Jean, as MJ is also not with us any more. So these great artists are no longer with us. Troubled souls. That is so tragic. Proves than money doesn't make you truly happy. May they all have found their peace.

I find it interesting that you normally react to different versions of the song that most reactors use. Check out the Sirius XFM version of this same song, it's Chris with a cello and another acoustic guitar. It somehow makes me way more emotional, even more than Sinead's version which is saying a lot

LOL...I'm with you on bass vs cello...a tip I was given and I'm not even sure it is correct. B in Bass means BIG C in Cello is for Can Carry. There is a difference in their tuning the bass is the lower of the two...The Dead South is a Bluegrass..ish band that uses a Cello as their bass line... "Honey You", "The Recap", "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company "
