I love Dylan she’s an amazing actress and singer/song writer the song was about her best friends mum who died before her 48th birthday when the friend was 12(I believe coming up to 13 as well) she died of cancer. Dylan then made this song for her friend. Dylan released this song when she didn't have anything else to release and her friend suggested Birthday Cake. Dylan was skeptical at first since she made the song for her friend but was encouraged to release it. She teased it and everyone loved it and Dylan didn't know that so many people would relate to this song. She re-recorded this song and released it. The original version didn't have violin in it and according to Dylan it wasn't as whiny as the original. In this song Dylan sung the lyrics that she wanted her best friend to hear as if she was talking to her. This song is now the most streamed song of all her songs according to Amazon Music
