I'm from the same basic generation of Janis, and I'm glad to see you're reacting to her. One song I would strongly suggest would be her famous rendition of "Me And Bobby McGee": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a6mXYM1hvZadcZs.html Janis, to me, was always like a fragile wounded bird, so vulnerable yet almost ethereal at the same time. With her unique voice, she was able to transcend the time/space continuum and make you actually FEEL the hurt that was inside of her when she performed. And tragically, like so many of her counterparts, she was not strong enough to turn away from the allure of drugs that always surrounded her, and succumbed to them at the early age of 27 in 1970.🙏

It's definitely fun to see her live. But on this one, I think you would have enjoyed the official audio of it.

The studio version is great. She was the lead singer for a group called Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was a major hit in August of 1968. She then embarked on a solo career. Janis died at age 27 on October 4, 1970 shortly after the death of Jimi Hendrix on September 18, 1970.

This was recorded 12 april 1969 in Frankfurt by German TV. After regular concert they played second concert for TV with lights on and the same audience. Studio version was recorded 1968 with other group (Big Brother & Holding Company). Piece of my heart is cover song and was first recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967 (it's also interesting). Janis made a lot of covers that were more known than originals. Check out: Summertime, Ball & Chain, Move over, Down on me.

She is into it. She called the people onto the stage and was dancing with them. She wasn't letting any of them intimidate her, she was holding her own. Those boys probably never saw anything like her before.

Mr Big Stuff was released by Jean Knight in 1971 and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. I was 14 years old and I loved that song every time it played on the radio. Janis had more talent than an artist has a right to. She was an amazing performer who left us far too early (RIP Janis). Thanks for reacting.

She is not on the stage. She's on the floor and she's enjoying every minute of it. She's pulling them up to join her unlike the artists today. She is very comfortable. She performed at Woodstock 1969.

They were all high as fuck. Multiple substances for everyone. Been there, done there. Still do, just quieter.

Absolutely listen to the studio version! Serious vocals that she did not really do on the live version.

Check out her performance of “Ball and Chain” from the Monterey Pop Festival. Oh, hell, check out any Janis, especially live. She was one of a kind.

You should go down the Janis Rabbit Hole for sure, that one you just did is well known but FAR from one of her best, well known because Janis was blitzed by the time this song came around and she still made it a good time for everyone. If you want to hear just how good she was, listen to "Little Girl Blue" live on the Tom Jones show or pretty much any rendition of "Summertime", then just find a few more. I think you will come to love Janis like so many others have.

Love Fest. Jean Knight, a contemporary of Joplin, did "Mr Big Stuff", so I dig why you thought about the similarity. Check out "What a Mighty Good Man" by Linda Lindell (and compare to Salt'n'Pepa with En Vogue).

I thought Janis was incredible when I saw her on Ed Sullivan as a girl. Her influencers were singers like Billie Holliday and Odetta. We were losing amazing talent way too often. It was heartbreaking.

Y’all, please don’t come for me. I love her influence, her passion, her strength as a female performer during that era and her boldness to be different. I like her, but I have never thought her voice was great. Perhaps my ears have not developed the appropriate appreciation yet. Sometimes it takes time.

I thought the same thing when I first saw her.the second time I was awed by the passion and laying it all out there. Then I saw Monterey pop festival and I was sold.

Imagine a Janis and Dirt McGirt collab… If it weren’t for heroin we probably woulda got it. Both gone WAY too soon. Someone needs to do a Janis/ODB remix. Paging Questlove.
