Roy was a stringed instrument virtuoso..the work he did doesn't begin to showcase the man's immense talent.

Roy Clark sadly is no longer with us, but he could play pretty much anything with strings though he was best known as a singer. He was a legend in country music and he co-hosted, with Buck Owens, the old TV show, Hee-haw for about 20 years. Hee-haw was on CBS from 1969 to 1971 and then was in syndication from 1971 to 1993. Two of Roy's biggest hits as a singer were, "Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone" and "Yesterday When I was Young". Thank you for your reaction to this song. BTW, you probably noticed that this performance was LIVE. No retakes. No "tweaking" by a sound mixer back in the studio. No autotune. Just years and years and years of practice!

When he slaps the guitar he is emulating the dancers heels as the do the hard tap type where the Spanish dancers fling the very colorful skirts. Beautiful dance and beautiful song. Roy is definitely one of the best guitarist of al time.

This song is known as being very hard to play. Roy plays it on the hardest guitar to play on. He was amazing, but flew under the radar, because he never sought out the spotlight. He wasn't known as much of a singer, but he did have a few hit songs in his career.

Roy Clark was amazing, he could play anything with strings...This is a spanish flamenco style song, usually played on an acoustic guitar, which, imho, sounds much better than with an electric....I highly recommend glistening to an acoustic version.

Roy Clark was a virtuoso on any stringed instrument and my favorite country singer and performer for years. This rendition proves his talents weren't restricted to country.

This was one of his more serious performances, but make no mistake about it, he is one of the best performers.

The first time I heard him do this was on an episode of Hee-Haw back in the '70s and it brought tears to my eyes. For one man to get that much music out of one guitar, and with such precision and clarity, is absolutely amazing! I still get chills watching and listening to it.

Imagine having a live musical performance of this caliber, and the TV production crew is like "What if....Now hear me out gang.....we had an all red screen with a violently spinning oval shape that sorta frames the performer's face, but gives an obstructed view of him playing the guitar? Yes it will be very distracting. Yes I'm aware this is an instrumental performance! Great idea, or the greatest idea?" And then they just put it out on national TV like that, when network television was huge, and there were only 4 TV channels. Truly mind blowing. Regardless, Roy Clark was the GOAT.

Roy was among the best when it came to instruments with strings. Not just accomplished on them, but a master of every one. Among those he played were the guitar, the fiddle, the banjo, the mandolin and others.

It's usually played by a group of Spanish Flamenco Guitarists....he does it on his own.

He also played the fiddle and banjo and was a fantastic comedian.

These were great guitarist. Grew up listening to them. A few more icons that have passed away: Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Glen Cambell and James Burton. Everyone wanted to record with them, and they often did on many recorded albums. They were legendary with all kinds of styles and techniques that may have used over the years.

"Thank God and Greyhound" (for him singing) "Folsom Prison Blues" (the duet with Johnny Cash is amazing) "12th Street Rag" and "Duelin' Banjos" (for more instrumentals in different genres) I think Roy could play about any genre on any stringed instrument. Truly one of the great entertainers of his era.

“Malagueña” is a Classical music instrumental for the acoustic guitar. It was made famous by 20th Century Spanish Classical guitarist Andres Segovia. Country music guitarist Chet Atkins recorded his instrumental of “Malagueña” in 1956, and was the first time it was recorded with an electric guitar. Roy Clark was clearly inspired by Adkins’ recording, and recorded his version when he felt that he had the adequate skills to perform it effectively in concert.
