Roy Clark was the product of an era when being the top in your craft was far more important than being famous.

There is a version with him playing it on a 12 string at Branson. Also, he did it on the original Odd Couple with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. He knocked their socks off.

Legend says that Eddie Van Halen was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world, and he replied "I don't know, I'm not Roy Clark". And yes, the version he played on the Odd Couple really is incredible. He knocked Randall and Klugman right out of character.

Roy Clark was known as one of the best at the time. Played multiple instruments. He was once asked who he thought was the best player Was. He said he was good , but the best he had seen was a guy out of Detroit named Johnny B Odom. But he just could not stay off the sauce. That was my mother's first cousin. It was true , I heard that all my life how Good he was but he was an alcoholic and could not stop drinking. Roy, Chet Atkins, and Glenn Cambell were all MASTER GUITAR PLAYERS. I use to love watching Roy play, or any of these guys. So many of these old guys and most of the old blues players have passed.

Late great Roy Clark, Multi instrumentalist genius he surely was, super star host of that great hee haw show. Never missed any episode of that show. This is a classical tune of way back when that he is playimg it Masterfully. What a super fantastic talent, a witty, and a Marvelous human being he was. RIP Sir.

I remember Hee Haw. Back in the day so many people didn't take Roy Clark and Buck Owens seriously as musicians because they were so funny on Hee Haw. In reality you can see when they were not on Hee Haw they were both amazing musicians.

My good friend's father, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, used to jam with him on the tv shows "Hee Haw" and "Austin City Limits". Both were great guitarists and multi-instrument musicians.

Roy Clark used to play at a local area festival almost every year called the Phil Harris Festival. I have talked area musicians that play on stage with him. They all lived the man. He treated everyone with respect and wasn't full of himself. He was great, He knew it, and didn't have act like his shit didn't stink to prove it.

It's a traditional Spanish song, been around for hundreds of years so it's been heard in many movies and TV shows. Others may play it as well as Roy did, but none will play it better.

Watched him in Branson, play this on an Ovation 12 string. I quit trying to play guitar after that. I wasn't worthy. Roy Clark was above the guitar Gods, and nobody will ever come close to the ability and talent Roy had in his pinky finger, let alone the other nine.

My husband saw Roy Clark in concert and he played Malaguena. Before playing it Roy asked the audience to be quiet as this song took so much concentration.

Roy Clark is, indisputably, one of the gods of guitar.

And, that is without all those effects on guitars most people use. That is pretty much as clean of a guitar sound you will get. You got to do some bluegrass.

When I was young, I once had a chance to see Roy Clark perform live on stage. Dude was in the middle of one of his songs, going at a crazy pace, and one of his guitar strings snapped. He didn't pause, didn't miss a beat, and finished the song out flawlessly. He was on another level entirely.

Talk about someone who's "In the zone" this is the perfect example. Magnificent performance.

My Brother, Malagueña (MA-LA-GWAIN-YA) is probably my all time favorite song over my 74 years, and Roy Clark is my inspiration. It’s the first song I was ever able to sound out on our guitar. You have a guitar. You listened and watched this magnificent performance. Now just think….HE PLAYED THE MELODY AND RHYTHM AT THE SAME TIME! Whaaat? Roy is an absolute master of guitar one of my dads idols. I had no idea he was this great until I took up playing the guitar.

Jamel, I started to learn to play guitar about two years ago at the age of 52. There is no better time to learn than when you realize that you want to play. "If not now, when?" was the question that I asked my self back then. I have no illusion that I will ever get "good" at it. I practice about 30 minutes a day give or take. It gives my mind a break, and I almost always feel better afterwards. I've found the best thing about it is that it has given me a much greater appreciation for people like Roy Clark. It is even more impressive now I know what they are actually doing on the instrument. Plus, once you can play a few songs, your wife and family can sing while you play. What better quality time is there than enjoying music with the family? That's how is was done before records and radio.

When I was a kid, the only version of this song that was well known was by Liberace on the piano. In the early 70s, Roy appeared on the tv show The Odd Couple and did a shorter version of this. That brought the live audience to its feet.

Mr. Roy came to our little county and put on a concert so we could build a football stadium at the time it was the biggest in the state of Tennessee. That's the kind of man he was. I am 55 now and was 16 then.

Roy Clark is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. He never got the respect he deserved as a musician because he was kind of goofy and made a lot of jokes. Plus, he did goofy shows like Hee-Haw and stuff. So a lot of people didn't realize just how good he was. But he was one of the best. He was also a kind and humble man. No one who knew him ever had a bad word to say about him.

On the T.V. show "The Beverly Hillbillies" Roy played a guitar playing hick from back in the hills who was wanting Jethro to be his manager. He also played Roy's mother on the episode Myrtle Halsey. He dressed up like an old woman. HILARIOUS!!!!

I remember when he got his start by being on the Jimmy Dean Show( 60s) , he performed this song and others. He became friends with Mickey Mantle and He played Yesterday When I was Young at Mickey"s funeral. Play it and Thank God and Greyhound.

When I was in high school, I belonged to a club that provided ushers for a venue that normally hosted classical concerts and we always got to stay and watch the concerts for free. As luck would have it, that was where Roy Clark chose to perform. I pretty much spent the whole time with my jaw on the floor. The man was amazing, and this is the song he played that impressed me the most.

You nailed it with “technique”. His technique is unbelievable but in addition to that his right hand technique is unbeatable. Those explosive continuous strokes were so powerful. Top ten guitarist.
