@@chrisoakley5830 That's thanks to backing tracks being made by people stringing lines of pre-fabricated musical bars or tracks from a DAW or licensed loops. People are hardly even creating memorable melodies these days with their music tracks; it's just generic sounds to "accompany" an over embellished and auto-tune polished, ubiquitous singing style it would seem.

Love, love, love this track!!! A #1 Pop and #1 R&B hit in 1976. Sold 2.5M singles. (BTW, perhaps the greatest and most distinctive falsetto/soprano voice of that era belonged to Russell Tompkins of the Stylistics, who had a mess of dynamite hits in the mid-'70s, including "Stoned in Love with You" and "Betcha By Golly Wow." And another stellar cheating song from that time was "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul.)

You see why older people hate most of the modern music of today. There is no comparison between the raw talent of the past and the corporate, algorithm driven industry of today. From the male perspective, I’ve always looked at it as the guy came to his senses and is stopping the affair. He’s doing the right thing, and doing it as kindly as he can.

Albeit, transistor radios much of the time, but we didn't know any better, we just loved this music. Of course the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, Cream and a myriad of others were there too. We never got bored with whatever the next song was on the radio. This is the soundtrack that I still love. Allow me to suggest an artist for your '70's dive: Jeff Beck Group "Ice Cream Cakes" and/or "Sugar Cane" (released in '72). You will not be disappointed. You can tell this song is building to something. The string sound is awesome. The mix of voices is special. Each one of these guys could probably crank out hit records in today's music scene. This song reminds me a lot of "I Wish It Would Rain".

Yes, lots of "Falsettos" in the 70s. I'm a 67 year old Hispanic woman who grew up and still living in Southwest Texas. Also, growing up in The 70s was THE BEST!!!! Regardless of being Hispanic, my high school was pretty diverse. We enjoyed, R&B, motown, rock and some country. High school in the 70s was great. My kids grew up listening to my type of music. My daughter grew up to be a band director and she knows the lyrics to most of these songs. We all subscribe to "Spotify" which has all sorts of genres and mine has tons of music from the 60s, 70s and some 80s.

The singer's voices are like musical instruments, falsettos, tenors, and baritones, sopranos, and contraltos for female voices are used like brass instruments, different voice ranges used for different vocal effects.

True singing groups are something so many younger folks just know nothing about. The Manhattan's are one of the best from the Classic Soul era of the '70s and I'm.do glad to have grown up.eith this music. Welcome to the party.

1960 to 1980 The era of timeless music and epic talent we ALL took for granted at the time. Hasn't been topped yet, and doesn't look promising in the near future either.

When Johnny Cash sang the song about taking his gun to town everyone knew that it was just a song and we enjoyed his delivery of the song without stressing over his taking his gun to town against his mother's wishes which led to his losing his life. When Lefty Frizzell sang about being put to death for a crime he didn't commit because he was "in the arms of his best friend's wife" we listened to his delivery of the song without stressing over his facing the hangman because of something he didn't do or because of the cheating that he DID do. When Tom Jones sang about "feeling the knife in his hand" and his cheating wife "laughing no more" we all knew it was just a song and we enjoyed his delivery of the song without getting overly concerned that he had ended someone's life. When Reba McEntire sang about a young girl named Fancy whose MOTHER urged her to become a lady of the evening, we all understood that this was just a story and no one took issue with Reba the entire time she was singing the song. When the Manhattans sang "Kiss and Say Goodbye" we enjoyed their voices and their delivery of the song without stressing over two people who were stepping out on their significant others. They're songs! They are not real life. I'm not sure how you could say you liked the song and make fun of it at the same time but you somehow did it. It's a story. It is not real. There is no need to stress over the lyrics.

I feel so blessed and so lucky to have been a teenager during the 70's. It seemed like every day a new incredible song came out. That musical era has never been duplicated. That is when music was really music and that music continues to make me happy because it brings back so many wonderful memories. All those singers were so blessed to have been given a talent that brought happiness to millions of people around the world.

Love your take Britt... This happened to me. I had one affair 14 years into our 30 years of marriage, I regretted it deeply and broke it off. I became a model husband afterward. My wife discovered the affair 16 years later... and divorced me. She is still best friends with the lady. My ex is now with one of my best ex friends.
