Imagine me, a long haired white guy growing up in South bay of LA, listening to this, stylistics, suicidal tendencies, led zeppelin...I had a very eclectic variety of music. Most of it was great, some not so much. This is one of the great ones in my opinion. Their harmony is incredible.

Yeah, it’s great watching senior old people get some reaction time. Takes you way-way back, huh? You was only 10, way back in 1976, huh? You sound so excited, makes you wanna dust of a bottle of ripple and disco dance the night away. This was your “jam” so what was your “jelly”? 🤣

A time when black vocalists and groups were making huge strides in the music industry. I was just a small boy when I first heard Otis Redding... "I've been loving you". I felt the depth and emotion in his vocals immediately. Even at the age of ten, hearing it come on the radio....it stopped me dead in my tracks. So much great music was being produced and recorded back then. The competition in the industry was fierce back then! It produced high-quality vocalists and musicians. Most importantly...that era produced an abundance of solid gold music.

Soul Train, Midnight Special, American Bandstand! We grew up listening to all these weekly tv shows. The Manhattans were Soul Singers, it's a branch off of rhythm and blues/ gospel/ and pop. Very much like a tree, all music is a part of one family, the musical family.

@@keithknox5829 Oh Yes, another great one, I also have no clue as to the spelling, but I'm usually not the one to care on the spelling. To me that's trivial, of everyone gets the feel for who or what I'm referring to, that is the point. Sometimes, the only video of the artists at work, on these special programs is the only visual we have today.

I thank my Mom so much for listening to such amazing music both in English and Spanish, exposing me to it. Makes me appreciate these TRUE TALENTED artists, and makes me wish the newer generations would rather these types of singers and songs. Reason why I can't relate to many people my age. They just like trash. And I'm more of an old soul.

The Manhattans started out as a backup group to other acts. They were session singers at the studios for other groups that needed backup singers. And then they got the big break. Kiss and say goodbye was a big hit for them. Shining star was also a mega-hit for. It came out in the early 80's

There’s lots of great 1970s Soul like this , check out Barry White, The O Jays, Spinners , The Delfonics and Stylistics …. The 70s was the best , We were listening all sorts of great different styles of music from Southern Rock to Led Zeppelin to Motown to Souland many others . Nobody cared about the genre, if it was good we listened to it. This Philly soul style music was the best for when you entertained the women at your crib. Even us white guys put this on, it was guaranteed action.
