About Jin being selected for BTS, l think the logic behind having him in the group was that he had acting skills, Bighit had a plan to have the a storyline run through their videos so l think they selected Jin for that ability (and his good looks. ) However he trained for 2 years in singing and dancing and as you can see he passed. Bang PD said he didn’t want perfection he wanted real boys who could show who they were and what they had inside. Jin is my favourite member because of the sheer determination and perseverance he has. He may have started behind the rest in singing and dancing but has proven his talents and abilities over the years. He is my source of inspiration. ( all BTS can act well now ,l just love the fact that they are all so talented.)

I RESPECTFULLY disagree …. I never thought “Rap Monster” was a bad name or cringe. I think it described Joon’s early years . He was and still is a FIERCE rapper . Just my opinion .

It's okay if you don't like a song immediately. Trust me when their album came I didn't like baepsae but after seeing their live performance I loved that song so much that everytime I hear this song I start dancing.

Loving an artist doesn't mean loving every single song of theirs, it's more so loving them and respecting the work that they put in even if the song isn't for you. Funnily enough I didn't really like Spring Day when I listened to it at first but now it's one of my top BTS songs ever

So about the mandatory military enlistment. All able bodied males in South Korea are required to serve a minimum of 18 months in the Korean military. Exemptions can be made, but they are extremely rare. Male kpop artists aren't exempted from the military. Many kpop artists have served or are currently serving. As of right now BTS has not been exempted but the Korean govn't did pass a law allowing those who have received cultural merit medals to defer their enlistment until age 30 (for everyone else you have to enlist by 28 or earlier if you choose to). And as of right now the members of BTS are the only kpop artists (aside from PSY, but he received this award after he had served already) to receive this award. BTS did recently ask to be granted their deferral, probably in hopes they will get to tour before they have to enlist. Keep in mind Jin who is the oldest is 29 and Suga is only 3 months younger than Jin. The Korean govn't is still discussing whether to exempt BTS or not and from my perspective they seemed to be split on whether to exempt them or not. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter should they be exempted, should they serve 1 or 2 at a time, should they serve together and it get it out of the way? Something to consider is if they all wait until they are 30 to enlist it could be up to 7 years before all members are done serving since all the members ages are spread out over the span of 5 years. Mandatory military service has been required for decades because of the Korean War, which never officially ended. So we might look at it as a foreign concept but in South Korea it's just a normal part of life for young men. But something I want to make very clear. BTS members themselves have never asked to be exempted or have ever said they don't want to serve. Many anti's will say BTS are trying to get out of serving which is completely untrue. They really don't like talking about it because for them it's a very private matter but when Jin was asked about it in 2020 at a press conference for the Map of the Soul: 7 album he said it was his duty as a Korean citizen to serve that he was ready to serve at anytime when he is called to do so.

BTS and ARMY got the through a recent depression (which is a recurring thing in my life as a recovering addict and trauma survivor ^^). The impact of this people is real and seeing you as a baby ARMY is a delight, so thank you. “Spring day” is a tear jerker hahaha but it’s pretty healing a shows a lot of our boy’s true soul. So I recommend watching the MV, the the video explanation, and then watching it again, coz it enriches the experience. Love from Spain!

The entertainment companies in Korea do have solo artists as well as group artists, but groups tend to have members that appeal to a variety of different fans, hence potential for a bigger fandom. Groups can have a bit more flexibility with the types of songs they can make because they have multiple members with different skill sets. Performance-wise, choreography and formations look impressive with multiple members. It is a formula in the industry that has worked for decades.

Every time I watch it I ugly cry, it's really heart wrenching. "I need you" also grabs you by the heart. Both are absolutely beautiful but I'd recommend watching one of the Run BTS compilations to get your mood back up afterwards, or maybe one of the "Jimin can steal your man" videos 😊💜

Hyyh was quite honestly one of THE best decisions they ever made and pushed them to reach the success they have. Watching hyyh content makes me feel like everything is going to be okay and the sad times will eventually disappear. Hyyh is much deeper and grittier than their earlier albums and songs and when I think of bts I think of youth and colour and how that ep changed everything for them

Suga flew under the radar for me for a while when I first found BTS. But then I found compilations like "Min Yoongi Can't be Bothered" and "BTS bringing out the tsundere in Yoongi and loving it" that drew me to him because I'm a quiet introvert myself. Then videos like "Yoongi would do ANYTHING for bts" endears him to me even more. And I love the fact that "what yoongi wants, yoongi gets" (check out videos like "Min Yoongi Predict The Future").

I usually don't love a song in general on the first listen, it's pretty rare for me. The ones I remember loving on the first listen from bts were: fake love, the truth untold, epiphany, first love, film out and ON. Some of their songs are better with the dance practice as well. Too me the lyrics are very important though

It’s pronounced “bahng tahn” like “ah”, “nah”, “raw” etc There are lots of fantastic solo artists in Korea, but the popular ones overseas are groups. All able-bodied Korean men are required to enlist in the military between the ages of 18-28 for roughly 20 months (depending on the type of service). This was recently extended to 30 years old as postponement for distinguished Kpop stars thanks to BTS’ contributions to Korea.

Since South Korea & North Korean share a border (98 parallel) they have to have a strong military ( just in case North Korea) decides to invade. Fact the Korean War was never finished it ended in an armistice. North Korea invade South Korea June 25 1950, North Korea was backed by the Soviet Union & China, South Korea was backed by the United Nations ( mostly America) they fought for July 27 1953 with a armistice. So in Korea it used to be mandatory for males to in list by age 22 and serve appr 18 months, but they change the age to 30 for k pop idols. They exempt athletes and musicians ( they promote South Korea) k pop idols need to get a special award from the Korean president of merit to wait till 30 ( BTS was awarded that honor). Also in Korean last names are 1st so Kim Namjoon, his 1st name is Namjoon

Scouting (it's when agencies approach random strangers on the street to become a model or actor) is actually pretty common in entertainment industry, not just in S.Korea but all over the world although scouting is more widely used to find models and actors. But in S.Korea, once you scouted to be an idol, you need to go through training period that could range from 1 year to 5 or 10 years. If you started out without any experience and you made it to debut, that means you've shown great improvement and you've done well cause so many trainees get cut from the program. I'd suggest you to listen to Joke and Awakening by RM so you'd know why he was called Rap Monster. He's a literal rap monster on a beat. In their song Born Singer, he mentioned about people making fun of his name and his hair and I believe he's hurt by those comments. Of course now he has gotten over it and outgrown it. His solo song Joke was actually made to response to haters that said he can't rap fast. These guys can rap rap. Although No More Dream MV was kinda cringe but the lyrics of the song was quite a big deal. I think that's one of the reasons that separates them from other k-pop group. They're not afraid to talk about social issues in their song compared to the typical love songs for other groups. Their song, Idol was a big deal too. Their performance of that song at MMA 2018 was spectacular. It's like a showcase of traditional dances of S.Korea. And the fact that they performed Idol at Jimmy Fallon Show while wearing modern hanbok (traditional S.Korean outfit) at a historical palace in S.Korea shows just one of the contributions of BTS to S.Korea's cultural impact.

Jin got scouted by agent because of his good looks even they didn’t knew that he can sing/ dance/rap or not is not rare things in kpop group formation bcuz there is person that in charge as ‘visual’ in every group of kpop. Some of them don’t even hv talent n just sing/rap ( more like speaks) 1-3 lines in their songs n can’t even dance well just because they r gud looking😂 . But Jin works really hard so that he can sing really well like wht we hv heard right now . actually scouting good looking teenagers from the streets is a common practice for entertainment companies in korea so it is not suprising. most of the idols were at first approached on the streets like that and offered to go to an audition. and if they pass they will train in that company for a few years(in some case months) for their debut. and companies also holds monthly evaluations so it is not easy at all to make a debut.that means that those who made it are really really telented.

Since you mentioned that no one has suggested any Kpop solo artists to you yet - I highly recommend Taemin. He's a solo artist who also is a member of a boy group called Shinee, and his music is great. You can't go wrong with any of his singles, but I would recommend his 2020 song Criminal to check out first.

I would recommend live versions like Tiny Desk (home) concert, BTS Room Live FESTA2021, or MTV Unplugged. And as a documentary the series "The Rise of Bangtan", and the 2018 and 2019 MAMA awards. It is very nice to see your videos from my country in South America.

If you want to listen to a Korean artist, I’d recommend listening to IU. I really like her newest album, Lilac. Her song “Celebrity” just won the Golden Disc Song of the Year Award. Dean is also really great. I like his song “Instagram.” And Jeon Somi just came out with an EP - I really like her songs “Xoxo” and “Dum dum.” There are some solo projects from k-pop groups but the ones listed above are actual soloists (to my knowledge). There’s a lot more to explore but I haven’t really dug into it much either. But IU may be one of my favorites.

It’s ok not to like every single BTS song! Even as a hard core Army as I am, I have to admit there are some songs I don’t care for as much as other and that’s ok as long as you support them you are Army 💜

Ok so these are my thoughts as I watch along: When it comes to the pronunciation of Korean words, if you're not sure about it, always check out audio from a person fluent in Korean or at least has a good grasp of pronunciation. That can help a lot. Recommendation for a soloist - Kang Daniel (first name Daniel btw). He was the winner of Produce 101 season 2 which led him to be the centre of Wanna One (a temporary group that debuted in 2017). He is also the CEO of his own company Konnect Entertainment. Namjoon's stage name went from Rap Monster to RM. The RapMon was just a shortened way of saying Rap Monster, that's all. Yeah, Yoongi's parents did disapprove but he was crying because they came to his concert, showing that eventually he did gain their support. "and all they had to do was speak English" - the way this was worded or most likely intended will give misconceptions. BTS never intended to release Dynamite in English because they wanted to 'top the charts in the US' but rather because they wanted to give hope to people during the pandemic. Of course they would want the song to be well loved and it still is, but that wasn't the original intention.

I’ve been an ARMY for like 2 years now, they are just so amazing and different. I heard some ARMYs say that you can’t be a true ARMY if you don’t like all their songs but that’s a lie, I’m not going to sit here and completely lie to you, I don’t like all of their songs, I like most of them but there are some that I just don’t really like, and that is perfectly ok, there is nothing wrong with that and it doesn’t change the fact that you’re a real fan. Your voice over was too cute. This is the first time seeing the updated version of the video, I'm surprised he didn't spend more time on how life goes on debuted at #1 on Billboard (which is nuts as an all Korean single AND that it had almost NO radio spins, which is what weighs the most when calculating the positions, so the amount of streaming online is what boosted it to its position) As well as Butter coming out and dominating the chart for 7 weeks straight(the longest record), just to replace themselves with Permission to dance for a week, then back to Butter continuing to be number one for another 2 weeks. So wild.

About not liking things immediately and being afraid to give some opinions: please don't. If you're not that into a song and try to pretend you are, trust me, ARMY will notice. And we usually drop those reactors like flies. What we appreciate is people with a genuine interest in learning about BTS and wanting to support them, but that doesn't mean you'll immediately love everything they do.

I absolutely adore you. 💜 I very rarely warm up to music on first listen. I don't even know how many times I had to listen MOTS Persona album before I even could form any opinion of it. And it seems even most music professionals (which I'm on no shape or form! Actually quite the opposite.) say, they need to listen song several times, sometimes letting songs brew for weeks and listening them more, before they can form more of a lasting opinion. (And smart music professionals, who sometimes rate music in their channels, say that these ratings can chage over time and between their personal moods! - So see, the whole rating is quite useless?) Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. Like this info vid a lot. It tells u about each album or EP. And summarizes what the theme was for that album/EP. I also liked the silly jokes. Some of the comments in this are opinion. So please be aware of that. I think I heard that there are groups with guys and ladies mixed in. Also, I love IU she a solo artist. She has collabed with Suga before. She is lovely. I heard of her and than got to hear her song for I-Island. And got to here the contestants sing her song their way. I was very impressed. She might have done a cover of Dynamite. I think. my memory is not great. Jin is 29yo now. So in Korea he is 30. He was supposed to have gone to the military after his b-day but Big Hit Music applied for postponement. So the guys get one more year together. So Jin has to go this Dec after his bday. We have to wait and see what will happen. Army would like them to all go together. But they will be split up in the military. Some army hope they don't go. I will wait and hear the news from them. Suga will be 29 this March. The rule is u have to go to military before 30 or when u are that age. Your in the military almost 2 yrs. (18 months). The idols in military cannot make songs and do anything idol related. They do give us pics of them in military attire and share short news on how they are doing. So we would get updates but if BTS goes they will be gone for a long time. If the guys go separate they will be separated from each other and that will be real hard on them and us. We don't like seeing them miserable. So far I love many of their songs. Almost all the ones I heard really. I am still hearing new ones which makes me so happy. I love their music. Bts do have to do mandatory military services but they will probably go together and do it together to save time(So prob 2 years) And artists of South Korea who have received the order of cultural merit..one of the highest honor in South Korea can postpone their mandatory military service till 30 and Bts have received it and are the youngest to do so.

It's ok and completely fine if you don't like a song 💜 I personally like all of them because I guess I'm open to a lot of genres and I have a wide taste when it comes too music (when I don't like right away a song, I listen it a couple of times and then I realize that it's not actually bad and now it's one of my favorites or after months or something I'm suddenly obsessed with a "random" song, that happens to me a lot lmao) It's normal if you're rotating more to certain songs than others. You should never have to worry about not liking a song immediately. I'm a huge Army, but there a definitely a few songs by BTS that I just don't vibe with, we all have songs like that, it's normal considering how diverse their discography is 😅I think most Armys prefer someone being honest (but respectful) over someone pretending to like a song they don't actually enjoy. That's the charm of reactions! Kpop solo artists: Wonho, Kai, Jessi, Jackson Wang, etc... In Korea military service is mandatory by a certain age unless there is a reason applies not to. Such as disability, other government service or others.

_( full disclosure that i’m not korean nor am i particularly well versed in korean politics so correct me if i’m wrong )_ in regards to military service, basically the war that caused the korean peninsula to separate into north and south korea hasn’t officially ended, or at least it hasn’t ended in surrender or a peace treaty. they’ve essentially been in a stalemate since 1953. because of this, south korea doesn’t want to let their guard down in the event north korea decides to attack again, so they’re trying to maintain their military. all able-bodied men between the ages of 18-28 are required to serve at least 2 years of military service for this reason. however, for some people who are highly influential in korean culture ( like bts ) they might be given temporary exemption or like a delay for the service, which is why the members who are 28 or older in korean age still haven’t had to serve yet.

Yes, unless the government gives them an exemption, Jim will be required to enlist before his next birthday. The subject of an exemption is being discussed because they currently generate approximately 4 billion dollars in revenue for the Korean economy each year. I think if one goes, they all will. Army enlistment are for 21 months.
