To me Marianne Faithfull rendition of this song in her live performance on Hulabaloo in 1965 is the most touching. I think every guy her age at that time fell in love with her while listening to that mournful voice and staring at that beautiful innocent face on her. Please react to it. You will get the in-depth feeling of this song.

I was the lead singer in a band in High School back in the 1960s & this is one of the songs we performed. Actually we did a lot of Rolling Stones covers from their songs on their albums. IN those days most people just bought singles(45s) & not the whole album . Consequently by doing a lot of their songs from the albums that weren't released as singles people thought we were doing original material which worked well for us. Anyway my first true love & I went our separate ways back then due to miscommunications between us, I thought she didn't want me anymore and was devastated. To my shame I reacted badly and said a lot of nasty things about her that i greatly regret. Well a few years back we had the chance to reconnect giving me the opportunity to apologize for my terrible behavior. Graciously she forgave me but I found out in the process the truth which was she did not want to break up back then and was devastated by it, especially with my mean comments. She told me that back then she listened to this song over and over again in her sadness for a good year after the break up . On top of that she was so hurt by my behavior that she was in therapy for years because of it. I am so grateful we had the chance to set the record straight! While I am sad that we never had the chance to continue our relationship, yes I still love her as she is a wonderful person it could have been a lot worse. The guy she ended up marrying was a friend of mine and frankly if I was given the chance to choose who she would end up with it certainly would have been this guy. They are still happily married and looking back I have to admit in a way I am glad as I can see he was much better suited to give her the good life she deserved than I ever would have done. I kind of got side tracked and wasted about 15 years of my life getting high and spinning my wheels. Though it pains me we didn't end up together I love her enough to admit she really ended up much better off marrying my friend. I am just glad we had the chance to reconnect and get things out in the open and I had te chance to apologize. A lesson people words can either bring life or they can kill! Be careful what you say, just be kind!

I believe the song is seen through the eyes of an elderly person nearing the end of their life, watching the younger generation, and feeling a bit lonely and discarded. "It is the evening of the day" as a metaphor for the inevitable approach of that person's twilight years. "Smiling faces I can see but not for me" the feeling many older people can get of being left out, ignored. A beautiful but somewhat sad song.

That's the 12 string guitar. The original Rolling tones version had a string quartet and 12 string. They were copying the Beatles Yesterday idea. Yesterday came out first. Except that Rolling Stones wrote it in 1964 because Marianne Faithful did it first.

Sorry, Brittt, but the audio is pretty rough on this video, it's clearly a fan in the audience on their cell phone zoomed in, the song deserves much better. There is a professional video of this same performance on The Rolling Stones own channel, but unfortunately, this isn't a great vocal performance by either singer anyways, Taylor's pitch is off a lot of the time. It's always best to check and to use an artist's own KZfaq channel if you can, otherwise you're gonna get variable quality fan stuff, and for a first reaction you want to hear the song at it's best, which is always the studio versions for me.

If I’m not mistaken, they had other guests at this concert. If I’m right (or if I’m not), I strongly recommend watching the part from this concert (or a different one) where Lady Gaga joins them on stage for “Gimme Shelter.” She was wearing the the highest platforms I’ve ever seen danced in so dangerously, on stage. She was living life on the edge and taking no prisoners vocally. Honestly, Mick Jagger looked terrified of her and possibly for her, at times. A great watch.

They gave the song to Marianne Faithful. If I'm correct, Mick Jagger and she had a thing!!!! IMHO, Taylor Swift is not a good singer!!!!! Every show I've seen her do live was just awful. I'm sure when she records, there is autotune and all kinds of crutches for her voice. Mick Jagger is not the best singer but we have learned long ago to love his voice ... He's an ICON!!!

To me, Taylor's voice is too high-pitched for this song. Probably because Marianne Faithfull's 1965 rendition set the standard. Faithfull's 1969 "Come and Stay with Me" was another beautiful song, which would have enticed any conscious young man to take up her offer. Unfortunately, much of her life and potential was destroyed by drug addiction, and it took her until the late 80s to regain control of herself.

@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yeah, bad rock. good rock isn't pitchy. She's a great writer for her style but not a great singer. I've worked with great singers. They know how to hit the notes and play the licks. I guarantee you they use aut0 correction or melodyne on every note of hers. Even her live performances. They just take the tracks recorded to the studio and put auto correction oh her voice. Hence, it sounds like she's hitting the notes live. They also have auto correction for live performances. It's not great though. She's just probably good at writing and singing her own songs, obviously. That's what she's famous for. It's not bad. It just says she spent her time writing music instead of copying music. She's just not the type to jump up and sing the Stones style of music.
@jackempson3044
@jackempson3044 Жыл бұрын
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Depends on what type of rock you're talking about. Rock covers a very broad area. Is Eric Johnson raw and rebeliious? Queen. Maybe rebelious but not raw. Stones were raw and rebellious. Taylor is a package. She's attractive, writes music and sings at an age where she sells. She's obviously very talented but she's not a jammer. A jammer can get up on the spot and sound like it was rehearsed and not miss a note. To be honest her performance with the Stones was amature. I've played with far better singers than her. I know what a good singer can do on the spot with a familar song. I don't know if they rehearsed once but it didn't sound like it. They usually at least get one rehearsal in earlier in the day in situations like that. Even the best will rehearse if they can. Everyone has to be on the same page.
