In my opinion, her Merging with the bison symbolized her final stage of stepping into her power as Anoana, protector of the people and the land. It was not suicide or end of life. It was transcendence, complete fulfillment of her shamanistic powers.

I was wondering if she wasn't in fact taking the ox's life. We saw that she could give life back with the bird, but in Nature things need to die too, things that have grown too old may need to be put down. What made me think of this is the fact that we see images of the same ox with the child petting it. She's older now, but so is it. My 2 cents.
@arjantjeee
@arjantjeee 2 жыл бұрын
@@xen0bia the ox depicts and symbolizes the rune Uruz. The man dancing around the fire with the antlers also makes the Uruz rune (also seen in the clip of Norupo where they dance the shapes of the runes). Uruz is the runic symbol of unstoppable primal force (anger, fear, hope, survival etc. in their purest form) . While she was younger she would caress and embrace her primal force (coping mechanisms/survivalmechanisms) but she now reached a point where she realized that these patterns don't work anymore and she had to face and battle herself. Trandenscending beyond who she used to be stepping into a new phase of her life. It was a symbolic battle/death but mostly a new birth. Born as a new person. The whole clip is about birth, the phases of life and then rebirth. Death is seen by us as the end but by the ancient germanic people, Death was the start, feeding and nourish the soil for new life in a never ending cycle. The moment she hit the ox, was the very moment she would be reborn.

@@arjantjeee I Think yours is one of the best reviews of Anoana I have seen! You have obviously studied (and absorbed) the video itself, but you are clearly knowledgeable about Norse culture and language (unlike most of us who comment here). Thanks so much from a noviate for sharing your insights! P.S. I read somewhere that there is a legend that the runes were given to Odin as bird song notes (see SAYGE WITCH comment below from two months ago). Have you ever heard this? Is there any chance the runes (both old and new) are an alphabet, each with its own "meaning", but musical notes as well? Just a thought.

Heilung literally means "healing" so its fitting. It also seems like a mission statement by the band to revive and reconstruct music from a forgotten zeitgeist into the modern world. For me personally as someone who suffers from PTSD but is also Norse-Germanic Pagan this band certainly touches me at a very deep spiritual level. I feel like they're bringing forth something we've lost to history and along the way bringing something I lost that I never knew I had. I would highly recommend watching the whole of the Lifa concert. The individual songs really do flow into each other and takes you on a whole journey. It would be awesome to get your take on the whole performance but in particular Krigsgaldr.

I do not believe in magic space dad sitting around judging people all day every day damning people to hell because they didn't chose to believe I'm Jesus of another faith even though those people were more Christian like than people who bang the drums crying out that they are Christians and can tell others what to do.

I just bawled the first time I heard and saw this. I WAS that little girl, out in the woods, just being a part of everything. The "chriping" sounds both Maria and the woman are making, at least in my opinion, sound like bird songs, and it has been suggested that the "Runic songs/spells" Odin was taught were actually bird songs. I feel the "lullaby" the mother is singing is calling on the "landawariar" (land warrior/ancient protective mother spirit) to be with her child (just based on what I do know about the language). You can see that echoed in the video, as the band members aren't there, then they are at the child's birth, seeming to help it along. The "buffalo creature" could very well be a stylized "Aurochs"; an extinct ancestor of modern domestic cows. It is represented by the "Uruz" rune, and is a symbol of primal power (unlike fehu, which is "cattle", or material wealth). Our little, but grown up "Landawariar" (the woman with the antlers) could in a way be proving her power by "fighting" the Aurochs, with her ancestors blessing (band members ritual by the fire/eclipse). Anyway, sorry for the long comment, just my interpretation ;)

I enjoyed your review/comments immensely! It's so rare to find someone with both knowledge and insight who admits to also being deeply moved by this music. I'm so tired of phony "berserkers" who constantly harp that Heilung has put them in a fighting mode. War was only one part of Norse culture. The contribution of women (with the "weight of life on their shoulders" as Aurora put it) can't be overestimated. I'm so glad Heilung decided to make use of Maria's remarkable siren voice and the rich art of the volva's in exploring the "distaff" side. I hope this latest album will explore it further.

this music feels like my germanic ancestors are speaking to me and waking something very deep down in my soul that i never new i had or existed. it's sad that so many of our ancestoral past was more or less lost in the modern world and i envy you norse people for living it, or at least have it much more present in modern society. german nazis back in the days tried to integrate much of the old myths into their propaganda and i guess thats why our ancestoral history has still a bitter taste for many of us germans. but i guess bands like heilung help to heal even these things. i am happy that the past is not forgotten...

Both yes and no, you can google brain fatigue. For me I was constantly dead tired no matter how much I slept, I got apathic, I had horrible mood swings, I was extremely sensitive to light and sound and it was more or less impossible for me to concentrate for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. You don't really get back to normal from it, you learn to deal with it and manage your energy levels. You can get better with exercise, mindfulness etc but you don't go back to the person you once where. You cant really blame your current job for it, this is not something you get in a year or so.... this is something that accumulates after years and years of running your energy lvl's in the red. All countries in the world have recognised brain fatigue and there are a lot of medical studies proving it except one country.... guess what country does not recognise it ;-)

I forgot to mention social interactions..... for me they are the ones that draw out most energy from me to the point where I can do about 2h of being social before I need to go rest.... this has had a huge impact on my social life not to mention dating life, Imagine really liking somebody but shunning them away since you mentally can't put in the interactions needed to peruse the relationship. All and all, it's crippling for all and any of the things that are supposed to be the highlights in life.

On this occasion, the members of the group provide us with invaluable information about the song and its lyrics. The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination. The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money. In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real. This is the original letter: [María] Athilr Rikithir Ai Eril idi Uha Ijalh Fahd Tiade Elifi An It Athilr Rikithir Ai Landawariar Año Ana Fahd Tiade Elifi An It Aelwao Ano Ana Tuwa Tuwa Tau Liu Ano Ana Tuwa Tuwa [Kai] UL FOS LAU LAL GWUL PED UL ULD AUL LEI ELw ATH RET LAE TyS Otro REI GUI AU AU LA OA SEJS ZUL AU AL HaR HaS Ka TIL AZ Ha IR EL UNOZ LEIT Una DZ GUI UI THUL UHNG Ur OI WHUG DIT La La LIH LaL Ur USK GLa Jue LAL La La La TLG Jue TiL Ur Ur Ur Ur Gel THuL So Oth LAU IA TyL LI RAI WUI IL DAI TU Han UTH A IUr EL AL Dan An ERUI AL EIZ An RA TIU An KU AK The language is proto-norse. I like to think about many different scenarios at what situation and where those words were written despite not understanding it it at all :). I like to think that the main part, when a mother sings to her baby it's like a lullaby to comfort the little one - some other people had similar thoughts. After I first listened to them back in 2017 I cried because it was the first time I ever felt truly whole! I love my family, friends, my fiancé, & what I do for a living......but there has always been a small part missing. Heilung, as the name implies, filled in that missing part for me!

I have listened to this every day since it came out. It is incredible. I am currently suffering from a herniated disc in my neck and an inflammation of nerve roots which in turn cause quite some pain in my shoulder and arm - especially at night, which prevents a healthy sleep. When I listen to this, I forget the pain and am transported to some other sphere. The name "Heilung" (I am German) fits so well!

I very highly recommend going to see them in person... while their recordings are fantastic, there is a subtle but very palpable difference when you FEEL the drums and calls throbbing in your very veins... one does not merely listen to the music, one merges with the music and both lends energy and is empowered by it in ways that I cannot describe...It's like the difference in watching a bird fly and soaring through the sky yourself... for those that know, no explanation is necessary, for those that do not know, no explanation is possible... it is exhilarating, calming, energizing and peaceful... it is what you never knew you needed until it is there.

Great reaction and looking forward to more heilung. Love all the small details of this video. The bird that revived in the girls hands, the drum as the mothers heartbeat and the clapping as the babys, and the fact that it was released the day after summer solstice. Really well done.

That’s amazing. I can attest to something similar. When I listened to Heilung’s live performance on KZfaq back in 2018 it changed my life. That change paved the way for the spiritual growth I would definitely need and rely on from 2020 to the present.

Its been a while since I started to feel my mental health spiriling into something I want to scape from. There are good days, there are bad days, and last week held me in a dark place like never before. I was feeling it mentally, but also physically. My whole body was in pain, I had no apetite and I was exausted. Yesterday, in the way back from my college, Anuana playing in my earphones on repeat, I slept peacefully for the first time in a month. No dreams, no intrusive toughts. I didnt even realise I had fell asleep and only woke up one hour later, close to home. I know music alone isnt going to save me (Therapy has been really important) but there is so much power in this song. So much confort, like I didnt feel in months. Like someone was deeply caring for me. Like I can scape to somewhere else, to nature, even if only for 5 minutes. This is the power of something made out of love, out of care. This is Heilung.

The drums are very primal. If I had to guess, drums were probably the very first instrument ever created by our ancestors. 2 sticks and a hollow log, very simplistic, then as time went on, they added animal hide. Almost every ancient culture used drums in one way or the other. Also, the tempo (beats per minute) has a lot to do with it. If the bpm matches our heart rate, it can be very hypnotic. So I believe drums and their effects connect all of us at the primal level. I don't know if there is any science to back up my beliefs, it's just what I feel. And watching all these reaction videos to this sort of music and everyone having the same reaction, makes me believe it even more. I don't know if you have watched Wardruna with Aurora in the song Helvegen, but you should put it on your to do list. As well as the cover of Helvegen by Kalandra. I would watch the Wardrun version first as it has subtitles.

Great reaction, music and what happens really reflects in your face. Can I just add some points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (of the bird) etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden... ). Also healing = heilung in the german name of the band. ...and she is born with antlers which scares here moother. Heilung sing in a reconstructed version of the previking proto norse language....

The Musk ox is a creature of the Old tundra regions its one of the creatures on the walls of caves drawn by Neanderthal's. The girl is linked to the deer ...forest creatures from later times.. creatures of the Boreal landscapes...but one is the past the girl the returning of new life growth and warmth of the long spring.. 🤔 .. thats how i read it. Cernunnos en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cernunnos is the horned god of the hunt ... In the 🇬🇧 theres an old tradition dance called the Abbots Bromley horn dance...its later but it links back to the stories of the great hunt... Music, Anthropology and cultural mythology... Which is what Heilung are about.🧙‍♂️ add a touch of Carl Jung on archetypes and Joseph Campbell's ..Way of the animal powers. 🦌🦡🐗🐻🐺🦊

Big Heilung fan! One particular moment really stood out for me, listening to their music. I had finished a salt float session (I float in total darkness, no music) and left very relaxed. l got in the car and it started to thunderstorm. One of their songs came on. I just sat in the car, with the rain pelting down, with the thunder and lighting while their music played. I just shut my eyes. Pure bliss.

I was stuck in the rap trap until I found Heilung. They’re angels and they’re healing everyone who finds them. Stay away from lower vibrational music, listen to what promotes love and life. A random man at the gas pump heard the music and came to ask what I was listening to. One person at a time the tribe grows.

Great to see your journey discovering Heilung, you're right about it being like self care! It speaks to something deep in all of us. When I get stressed I'll pour a drink into a horn, sit by my fire pit and listen to my Heilung and Wardruna playlist and it just feels like a renewal. Some of their more chant like songs, like Alfadhirhaiti are great for a work out too lol I'd definitely recommend Alfadhirhaiti or Othan from Heilung. And not to make too many suggestions, but Wardruna is another great band in this same genre. Thanks for your great reactions!
