It is wonderful that you understand the basic message of this song even if you don't know the writer's identity is John Lennon. This is an iconic song that was upgraded by Pentatonix' adding their own flavor to the words. Each signbearer revealed a bit of themselves and what they shared with another in the group as the signs were passed. Revealing that no matter a person's differences, we all share basic similarities.

Pentatonix took this beautiful song and put their own, currently relevant spin on it. They really did stay close to the original arrangement, which is perfect in its simplicity, IMHO. Thank you for taking the time to check out the song's original artist. This is definitely one of Lennon's most iconic creations, and really does symbolize the message of his life's work. The cards that each of the PTX members hold up refer to the labels they each wear as individuals. The cards they pass to the next member refer to labels they have in common. As much as they are different from each other, they also share aspects of their identity, as we all do. Pentatonix not only reveal who they are as individuals and as a groupin this song, but they also use the timeless composition as a backdrop for the iissues that threaten our peace today. Lennon would have loved it! Great reaction.

The fact that Pentatonix, a truly diverse group, has so much respect (and yes, love) for each other and makes such beautiful music together - and has for more than 12 years now! - makes them a message in themselves. I'm truly happy that your reaction was so heartfelt.

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

It's a wonderful, well made cover of one of the Beatles...John Lennon. Written in 1971 . That part after the cards were passed and they all sang together, intertwining the melody is their famed "Wall Of Sound" They do variations of it in many songs and it's always an emotional showstopper. The message that they were passing were parts of their identity that were their own, and the flip was a part of their identity they shared with another person. And at the end...we are all just humans, despite (or inclusive of ) our differences and similarities. It's time you tried out a few of the group's originals...and some headphones or earbuds!! Suggestions: Run To You, Sing, Happy Now, Prayers For This World, Be My Eyes, Love me When I Don't, Coffee in Bed.

Welcome to the long winding road of Pentatonix, you are in for the journey of your life 😊 Pentatonix never ceases to amaze me, at just how incredibly talented they are, and take their voices to newer levels, we have never heard before.....there is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift!

Thanks for the great reaction! I'm so glad you took a minute to read about the song. It has always been an inspiration to me and my generation of boomers. PTX did a wonderful job of remaking this with their message of seeing the common ground among all of us. I'd suggest you look at the original video by Lennon. It is very different from what he was doing with the Beatles. Kind of like Avi's solo work is different from what he did when he was with PTX, and yet I love both.

Yes, you must listen to John's original, it is so beautiful. Set in his home, he sings while Yoko goes about opening the curtains to greet a new day. Truly enjoyed your reaction, Pentatonix is just an incredible group, have loved them for several years now. Another singer, whom you may not have heard of is Dimash Kudaiberghen from Kazakhstan. He to is a man of peace and expresses this so well in his video "The Story of One Sky". An incredible artist and human, he worked for three years, writing the music and story of the video. He is gifted with a near 7 octave range and perfect pitch. He studied music for 24 years from the age of five and has practiced his craft for thousands of hours. I think you would enjoy his work, it is flawless.

Yes, Pentatonix does write their own songs as well. For originals I recommend: • "Run To You" • "Coffee In Bed" • "Thank You" • "The Lucky Ones" • "Light In The Hall" • "Happy Now" For Disney songs I have two recommendations, and one of them isn't exactly Pentatonix, but rather a subset of Pentatonix. The first is "Can You Feel The Love Tonight." And the second is from SuperFruit, which requires a bit of explanation. I don't know how much you know about the origins of Pentatonix, but this is the brief version. Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch all grew up in Arlington, Texas. All were involved in community musical theater as children, and Scott and Kirstie each met Mitch in that context at the age of 8 or so, and they each became friends with Mitch. But somehow Kirstie never met Scott until they were both 14 and found themselves in the same high school class. All three of them were choir geeks in high school (big surprise there), and they quickly became best friends. They formed a trio (not so imaginatively named "The Trio") that frequently performed at school events and occasionally on local television. Scott and Kirstie both graduated in 2010, and went off for their first year of college, while Mitch still had one more year of high school. Scott went to the University of Southern California, where he joined an award winning amateur a cappella group named SoCal VoCals and met Ben Bram, who at that time was a coach on an a cappella competition show on NBC named _"The Sing-Off."_ Bands would audition for the show, and if they passed the audition they'd appear throughout the season. Eventually home viewers would vote, and the band that took first place would win $200,000 and a recording contract. A recording contract?! Hey! Maybe The Trio could make a career for themselves and never have to split up! Scott presented his big idea to Kirstie and Mitch and they agreed to give it a try. But when Scott called Ben Bramm to find out how to get an audition he found out that bands with less than five members weren't even considered. If they wanted to compete on _The Sing-Off_ they needed at least two more members. Ben suggested they add a rhythm section: a bass and a beatboxer. Ben recommended Avi for the bass and they found Kevin on KZfaq, which is another story - very dramatic, but it will wait for another time. Pentatonix appeared on _The Sing-Off_ throughout the third season, 2011, and eventually won. And a week after they all moved to California to begin their new recording career the company reneged on the contract, saying that they didn't know how to market a cappella music, so Pentatonix came up with Plan B: KZfaq. They pooled their winnings, using the $200,000 as seed money. The men shared two apartments, to save on costs. They arranged music and rehearsed every day, and when they had a new song ready they'd record it with their iPhones and post to KZfaq. Yes, there's a great deal more to the story, but that will do for now. Mitch and Scott lived together for several years, even after they got other recording contracts and started making big bucks. And during that time they had their own KZfaq channel which they used as a vlog. It's named SuperFruit (a reference to the fact that they're both gay). Almost everything on SuperFruit is very funny, including one that featured their best friend, Kirstie Maldonado. And that one had the three of them recording a medley of songs from _Frozen._ You can find it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qqdlZqik0-DQeZs.html Be sure to stick around after the obvious end for the blooper reel.

👉👉Look up John Lennon!! He was part of the iconic British group The Beatles from the 60's . John wrote this song when the group broke up and he went solo. There was a LOT of bad stuff going on in the late 60s/70s when the song was written. War, division, racism ect. I guess it has not stopped PENTATONIX definitely gave it their spin and did a BEAUTIFUL job at it, plus being a very diverse group they accomplish SO MUCH together! Totally recommend you dive into all types of music, including oldies. My nephews are young and we have introduced them to a wide amount of music genres while they enjoy their music of today.

Pentatonix makes a point of being able to sing everything live, and in general it's as good live as the official video, sometimes better. But I can think of three songs where the official video provides important visual effects that can't be reproduced live. Those three songs are "Imagine," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and "Aha!." In the case of "Bohemian Rhapsody," the important visuals are tributes to Queen. In "Aha!" they provide a story line to give some kind of explanation for a seriously weird song. And in the case of "Imagine" the important visual effects are the very things that make the Pentatonix version of the song an upgrade instead of a mere cover. We like to say that Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue. John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences. First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together. Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were almost 43 years ago. John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he DID give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

This was John lennon's gift to the world and I've always thought if the world were ending and the last broadcast was sent out, this song would be playing. I believe he was assassinated not long after he wrote this song, but I'm sure others can say more on that. It's almost sad tho how so relevant it is today as it was then. We've learned little apparently. But the diversity and tolerance this ptx version gives, showing they each embody this song in their very identities, religions, sexual preference ect, then showing each individual singing together with the group and flawlessly in absolute unison and harmony is whst this song represents. Be individual, be yourself but come together as one when needed and amazing things can be accomplished. John Lennon would have approved.
