As a musician of 56 plus years, I found Band-Maid back in 2014 on Facebook. In my opinion Band-Maid are some of the most talented musicians on the planet today. From 2016 on Kanami Tono (Mincho) has been writing and composing Band-Maid music. "Alone" was the first song management let them use their own music. To me Mincho is a genius... Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.

At some point I think you should react to the online live for Manners/Black Hole (two songs) but if you are starting with older songs, there is a new official live with- Don’t you tell me that is an older song, but bew concert. Thrill is really what kick-started Band-Maid's journey to become a hard rock band. The group started in 2013, but a year before Thrill dropped in 2014 and received over two million views in the first weeks of release on Facebook, the Maids hadn't played much rock music at all. And the 2nd guitarist, founder and lyricist, Miku, didn't even know how to play guitar. It's an incredible story and we are so lucky they stayed together during those early years to become, in my mind, the best hard rock band on the planet! Thx, Graxus!

The label was about ready to dissolve the band since they hadn’t really caught on and this was basically their last chance (unbeknownst to them at the time) This song went viral, and the rest is history. Starting from the beginning for Band-Maid is a wise choice, since their library is over 130 songs. You'll be spinning out of control wondering where to go next if not Welcome aboard GG. This Pigeon hole is deep, enjoy the ride.

You will be discovering ten years of excellent music from a great group of musicians! No spoilers, but be prepared. They can go much harder than this; they can go much softer than this. They can be much more experimental, and they can do more just like this! The only question I have as I go into this is, "Will Roger Chance be mentioned?"

Miku was going to be lead singer, but they decided that while she has a good voice, it wasn’t the one for this project. So, they found Saiki. What makes it such a great thing is how well their voices work together. It was when she stepped back to be ‘secondary’ singing did she start to learn the guitar. At the time of this song, it was more a prop than an instrument. Huge contrast to her now, being an excellent rhythm/support guitarist.

The red Sonor Drums and the Red Addictone guitar stand out in the black and white scenes while the Rickenbacker stands out in the red scenes. I wish MISA-san had the white or black bass guitar already back then. :D

Early in their career here they were playing songs written by others. The management gradually allowed them to record songs they wrote. At this point, Miku was only beginning to learn guitar playing. Kanami taught her to be good enough that she now has an endorsement from Zemaitis and a signature model, the "Flappy Pigeon". Definitely check some of their live videos. A big consideration when they write songs is how they will sound live. The energy going back and forth between band and audience adds to the experience.

first mv but not their first song. they had an entire cd in 2013 a year before this song saved them. the cd 'maid in japan' went nowhere and did not even chart and they almost folded up their tent but made a last stab with this mv. it went viral almost immediately and the rest is history. and the funny thing is that the first cd was actually really good and is in almost every BAND MAID fan's collection - including mine. great job on their names btw - all pronounced correctly !

Those are always short and tasteful which I prefer over long solos. People will tell you to watch songs from the latest anniversary concert but I would stick with earlier songs first. If you want to continue with earlier songs, then "Real existence" would be the natural next step. It's the 3rd song from the same album "New beginning" (Thrill was the first song) and their second music video. You might watch that official MV or a newer official live video or both. After that I recommend "Alone" (offical MV) and "Freedom" (offical live) from the next album "Brand new maid". "Alone" is the first song that was completely written by Band Maid. At most all following songs are composed by Kanami (and the other band members). "Freedom" (LIVE) is a must see for their live performance and fun to play (and a very special solo). I’m as simple as can be. I see Band Maid and The Warning on a playlist.. That subscribe button is getting clicked on.

I'd suggest building up to their latest stuff (as you mentioned) as they have soooo many great songs. "Alone" might be a good second choice as it was the first one written by BAND MAID that was accepted by their (at the time) management to be included on an album. Their first "Mini EP" (YOLO - You Only Live Once) had 3 songs all written by the genius (Kanami) and the rest is history. YOLO itself is a brilliant song and shows some early progression while the other 2 "Matchless Gum" and "Unfair Game" are overlooked to a certain extent as there are no "official" video clips for these - but if you keep going, they are both a must. - Oh, an it dun matter what you pick - they smash everything and every genre - they might look like a "gimmick" band but you will come to see these guys are the real deal ... absolute brilliant songwriters/musicians. And then there's the live performances ... that's on another level and maybe in the next conversation. I subbed to join you on your new journey.

Dude, you may not know what you have gotten into! Band-Maid can and has sucked many rock fans into their orbit. Especially many of us OLD rock fans. I'm 75 years old and this band has rejuvenated my love for great rock and roll. We long term Band-Maid fans call ourselves Maidiacs. Boy, are we. Many of us have flown all over the U.S. (and the world) to catch one of their concerts. Fortunately for you, Band-Maid's official KZfaq channel has many of their official music videos, and live music videos on it. Band-Maid does not block the content on their official music channel. So, you should have plenty of their videos to react to. I can't tell which video you should react to, since there they have so many great ones. If you wish to explore their chronological history in video, I would suggest "Real Existence", the official music video. There are so many Band-Maid fans who say their favorite Band-Maid song is the last one they listened to. It's true. Just to let you know, you haven't jumped down the rabbit-hole with Band-Maid, you have jumped down the "pigeon-hole". Why? you ask. Miku Kobato, the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, backup vocalist and main lyricist, in here cute excentric way, considers herself the reincarnation of a 810 year pigeon.
