I actually remember how she gained so much popularity It was in like 2008 or something, and there was a controversy of all these idols lip syncing, saying that everyone did that. And people were starting to question what it meant to be a 'singer'. Then come IU with her 'Good Day' at the time which was just a banger on its own, but also had that high note at the end. Everyone thought she wouldnt be able to sing it live, or at least wouldn't choose to do so. But alas, her first live with that song, she just went for it, hit that high note, and it was engraved in everyone's mind that she's a singer, not just an idol. She never lost her popularity since.

IU is kpop royalty. The most popular and critically lauded solo artist in Korea (ever) She's on top of nearly any list of award wins and most song chart #1 in Korea. (BTS is world topping right now but IU has like 18 #1 songs compared to BTS' 8 in Billboards KPOP hot 100) Her every release is a near guaranteed #1 for the last 8 years. She's performed since her late teens for about 14 years.

This year actually is her 15th anniversary since her debut. I was at both her Golden Hour concerts last year in Seoul and it was absolutely mindblowing her show as amazing and her voice live is stunning, seeing her live perform in front of 45k people at the Jamsil olympic stadium was a sight I will never forget and an absolute highlight of my Korea vacation. She is definitely the Queen of Kpop for those 2 days of her concerts in Seoul 500k people were in the waitline once General Sale opened up for only like 20k tickets left (after the fanclub presale of the 90k over all tickets)

IU is considered "legend" in kpop industry.Starting her carrer at 15, she is very succesfull Solois singer and actress in korea.Many celebrities admire her, including jungkook BTS. Every time she made a concert, always full seated and many celebrities attended her concert. You should check out songs like "good day" which made her famous because her 3 oktaf range that not many female singer can made it at that time.

She was only able to start writing her own songs after her Last Fantasy album. And most of those became huge hits, even her b tracks. Most of those songs too are inspired by her friends or the people around her: - Peach, was written with Sulli in mind - Twenty-three, was for those who do nothint but judge her - BBI BBI, was for her antis and haters - Eight, was for Sulli, Hara and Jonghyun. It really took a toll on her when her three friends (two of which can be considered her bff) died. There's a lot so it really hits differently when you know the background story to each of her song.

between 25 and 28 she lost 3 friends to self harm so she was about to release Cat-Shire she lost her first friend and it was hard to release that song that you said sounds classy since she dedicated it to that friend but it was her first single so sing it she did. From that point on you will notice in her later 20 songs are softer and more meaningful less sunny. I love her voice and have been listening to her for over 10 years.

There are so many of her famous songs In Korea, when the album "IU" comes out, it is a song from 1st to 10th place. She is also a great actor (Hotel Del Luna. My Mister.) So fans call her the queen of k pop when she calls.👍

Have you seen Hotel del Luna? I spent at least 4 or 5 of the episodes yelling at the screen that this was NOT IU. She played a mean, nasty, and hateful character and did it well.

@@KANGMinCherry You are silly. Queen Elizabeth 1 cannot be alive for Queen Elizabeth 2 to exist. By definition, royalty standards only acknowledges one living queen, every other possibility for a living future queen has a different title such as crown princess or royal consort. Of course, you have the freedom to believe in your own desired illogical definition based on your personal feelings because this sort of thinking and behavior is encouraged in the nonsensical world we live in today. Just admit you decided to change the definition to your liking. Also, a Queen doesn't bow down to anyone and does whatever she wants to regardless if it creates a "scandal" and still remains at the top. Only Lee Hyori has been able to do this.

And Queen/King/Legends these are all titles give to the people who reached a higher peak than everyone else who were in the same generation.. @@rythrinx9998 As said in a previous reply, you are free to form your own "definition" regardless of how illogical or nonsensical it may be. Nobody is comparing "talent" amongst different generations. This isn't a Michael Jordan vs. Lebron James who's the GOAT comparison. This is based on the fact that the entire Korean entertainment industry bows down to Lee Hyori. So, it only makes sense that she is THE Queen. Every other Kpop "Queen/King/Legends" that you want to give a title to is starstruck by Lee Hyori... IU included. Even though IU is objectively a far better singer, there is still a definite hierarchy when it comes to Korean celebrities and it is very obvious and visible. I suggest you watch the show Lee Hyori's Homestay. There were two seasons. The first season had IU working for Lee Hyori, and the second season had Yoona from GG working for Lee Hyori. You can see the admiration and humbleness IU and Yoona have when they are around Lee Hyori. They act like Lee Hyori is their master. You can also watch another Lee Hyori show called Seoul Check-in where "legends" like Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, BOA, and Hwasa literally follow Lee Hyori's every word like they are her minions. These are "queens" by your definition that literally seem to be intimidated by Lee Hyori's sheer presence. When your favorite idols and celebrities act shy, reserved, and are on their best behavior around another celebrity... it means there are levels to the game, and Lee Hyori is on a different level.

It's hard to succeed if you're a soloist, and I'm not from a big, well-known agency but IU has succeeded and beat the biggest groups ,She’s tops the charts without promotions or new songs. She also won the Writer of the Year Award, I think you saw her words, as she does not write anything. She also won many major awards such as Album of the Year and others. You definitely need to check out Good Day. It's from 2010, when she was only 17. It would give you a good idea of what her early career from before what you've heard here is like, since it predates the earliest song in this playlist. It's considered her break out single. Not only does it have a hilariously over the top video (like a number of her early releases), it's got a crazy high note near the end that showcases just how good she was already at such an early point in her career. She references it in her song Palette (which I also recommend you check out the full version of). You correctly recognized a lot of her lyrics are autobiographical in nature, and that song is a perfect example. In it she talks about how she feels, being in this weird place where she's a young adult, and she's got a better sense of who she is as a person, but there's still some sense of not quite feeling like an adult. G-Dragon's verse is really wonderful too.

IU (Lee Ji-Eun) comes from heartbreaking poverty and started performing at 14. She is revered in Korea's entertainment industry and known as Korea's "Little Sister". I'm still trying to figure out if she's a better actress or kpop performer, as she's been the lead actress in a handful of my favorite kdramas. I'd enjoy seeing your reaction to her mv EIGHT, which was produced and featured Suga. It a very meaningful song for both IU and Suga, as it addresses the loss of 3 mutual friends.

Her lyrics are down to earth and you can feel it - well that's the main reason why people love her and her songs are always successful, plus she's different in everything, she is like a breath of air in the middle of the K-Pop world, her personality, her songs, her acting, her lyrics everything about her scream unique! Lee Ji-eun, also known by her stage name IU, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. She signed with LOEN Entertainment in 2007 as a trainee and debuted as a singer at the age of fifteen with her first extended play Lost and Found. Born: May 16, 1993 (age 29 years) and she is also an AMAZING actress "Hotel del Luna" is one of my favorite.

I like how you noticed how her songs are more classical! I totally agree. She debuted when she was just 16 years old and she sang with a lot of classical songs with other artists at that time!! I love IU and her songs and she is my QUEEEEN

IU is one of the person I respect the most she deserve everyone's respect for what she did even though she went through really difficult times in her life and still managing to be one of the best singer I know. Her voice is so refreshing, everytime I hear her voice I feel like I'm going to paradise, the kind of voice that you know that nobody will be able to imitate, really soft cute voice but can also become really powerful. She's also really humble.

IU is one of those stars that have reached the position they are at because of her immense hard working nature. She came from nothing. The money she earns, she treats like hard earned money and puts it to good use. She's also a phenomenal acrtress on top of it - she out "My Mister" if you want to know what I'm talking about. Her music; overall; isn't really for me, but the Dingo best of is something that's on my kpop playlist for sure.

IU is intoxicating. That is a Neumann M49 mic (or a TLM 49), and those things can read your thoughts. If you want to know what it's like to have IU sing into your ear, this is as close as we are going to get. Killing Voice runs these things with minimal vocal post-production, and the tracks keep rolling, no edits. If the artists mess up, they start over. It is a high pressure shoot.

She's so adorable it physically hurts through a phone screen. She's such a talented singer-songwriter, and I think we'll discover she's an even better actress for years to come... That said, and for all her talent, she must be the most adorable person on the planet. Find me someone more adorable so I can stop rewatching IU videos just to see her smile and throw up cute hand gestures.
