This was a tv show (the Andy Williams show) and the audience was directed at times by signs to ‘laugh’ ‘applause’ ‘quiet please’ so a very different vibe than a concert.

Yes, it was the Andy Williams show which was geared toward a more mature TV audience. Apparently, the in studio audience was instructed on proper behavior beforehand. Total contrast was the in studio audience for Shindig; those girls would scream their heads off. 😂 He sang this on Shindig also...a very different but equally wonderful performance.

Both men had unique and amazing voices and when they sang together they brought the magic. They have some great R&B live performances where they let it rip and you'll be blown away. This duo is still the best ever, in my opinion. Anxious to see which performance floors you the most. They each have some great solos. FYI: You two are just too cute.

Bobby Hatfield performed this live on the Andy Williams show. It was right after singing another song. His Mother was in the audience and it was her first time to hear him sing it live so he did his best for her. I say that he hit it out of the park for her, wouldn't you? Bobby said that he was nervous and getting over a cold as well. In my opinion this is the best live performance ever. The passion along with the vocal ability is absolutely jaw dropping if you want to hear his soulful side you need to listen to Bobby Hatfield singing "Summertime" live performance 1965. He will blow your mind. His vocal range and control are phenomenal.

The microphone he was using is a "condenser microphone". Most microphones used on stage are "dynamic microphones" which are more rugged so you can do things like mic drops and they still work. Condenser mics are a little more delicate but they tend to have better sound than dynamic mics.

Hundreds of singers have sung this song but none do it better than Bobby Hatfield. No auto tune or gimmicks just pure talent. The studio version was used in the movie 'Ghost' and was great but this live version is stupendous. He had a cold, his parents were in the audience watching him sing live for the first time and he suffered with stage fright. Watch when he sings the high notes at the end his face does not contort like some singers when he hits the high notes. He just bites his lip and smiles as if to say I nailed it.

This song was featured in the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. No one does this song better than Bobby Hatfield. The Righteous Brothers are the best duo of the 60's and of all time. They were dubbed the Blue-Eyed Soul Brothers. Side note, they both have blue eyes and many who have heard them sing are very surprised to find out they are white.

1965 - live no technology to alter someone's voice. All pure talent, Bobby Hatfield is a Counter-Tenor his high notes come naturally where falsetto is forced. Bobby range is way bigger then this song, this was why i was suggesting Sumemtime, Bobby cranks up close to the sound barrier in this song. How much is for a donation for a video?

Bobby Hatfield (RIP) possessed a 3-octave range tenor, and sung with amazing breath control, phrasing, and pitch perfect vocals and made it all sound so easy and smooth. Mind you, there was no auto tune available back in the day. Doing solo back then you had better have talent - the audiences were quiet - out of respect to the performer, and to take it all in. Several have covered this song since Bobby did it, but Bobby owns this!! Many in the music world rate this as the best solo of all time. Imagine how us ladies reacted when hearing this on the radio and watching this live performance on The Andy Williams Show on TV.

Bill and Bobby singing together is dynamite...lightening in a bottle. But Bobby Owns this song....Elvis is preferred by many, but this version one never gets tired of it. This kind of singing from the Righteous Brothers is called Blue Eyed Soul. The guy who yelled out "that's righteous brother" was actually a black marine from a nearby base in San Diego, [that's what Bobby meant by "Down South" in California]. Bill and he actually had a coin toss, thinking it was the B side of their next record..."Hung on You." Bill lost, but he produced the recording for Bobby. It WAS the B side but DJ's kept playing this and it went to #3 on Billboard. Bill and Bobby were close friends and just kidding for the camera. Bobby died in 2003 at the age of 63, in Kalamazoo MI [less than an hour down the highway from my house] in a hotel from a heart attack, just before he and Bill were to go on stage. Because of growing up with this music, and being a music teacher, I heard the news on my way to work...I cried and had to pull over, the same as the murder John Lennon in 1980, and the death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. Bill is about 84 and still alive.
@Aurora-tp3dy
@Aurora-tp3dy 20 сағат бұрын
Hope you don't mind my corrections. The marine base was El Toro near Irvine in Orange county, not San Diego. The club was Jon's Black Derby in Santa Ana, also in OC. There never was a coin toss. Bobby brought it to the recording studio to be his solo for an album. It wasn't originally meant to be released as a single so Bill was the producer. He also played piano and did the background vocals. Bobby had been singing it with his group, The Variations, before he met Bill.

When this was recorded in 1964-1965, a tiny few studios in the world had a 4-track tape recorder and an echo chamber to add reverb - most studios at the time - even Abbey Road where the Beatles were recording the best-selling records of the time - only had 2-track tape machines - so there was very, VERY little studio trickery that could be done. That's not to say that producers and engineers didn't use every trick they had, but their "toolbox" was humble indeed. What you are hearing here is pure TALENT, along with many years of practice and hard work. 4-tracks began to be common in bigger studios in 66-67, and 8-tracks in a few studios in 69. You really didn't get amazing quality recordings (not performances, mind you, but RECORDINGS) until the early 70s, when the music industry was generating a ton of money and a lot of money could be poured into studios and gear and R&D for better consoles, tape machines, and other gear. Recordings from the 70s are light years higher in quality than in the 60s because studio gear had advanced so much in a relatively short time, and improvements (in recording quality) since the 70s have been comparatively minor by comparison. Certainly, digital effects and digital recording and editing transformed the industry, but not entirely for the better. It allows more people access to studio-quality recording capabilities, but it also means that you don't have to have the talent, or put in the hard work to get access to such gear anymore, and a lot of the music we have today reflects that.

Bob was joking regarding it being a hit. Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley, who performed as the Righteous Brothers, wanted to sing "Unchained Melody" on their fourth album. However, Hatfield won a coin toss to perform the lead vocal solo. The song was originally recorded in 1965 and reached number four on the US pop chart and number 14 in the UK. It became an anthem again in 1990 when it was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Ghost
