Prince had something to prove here. He was ticked off that he wasn't on Rolling Stone's List of Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Needless-to-say, he was after this performance

I'm a 53yrs old metal head and I've always thought Prince was one of the best electric guitar players. Not just guitar either. He literally can play ever instrument. Just a pure artist!! He did show everyone he deserved to be on that list but he had nothing to prove.

@shawnsford7071 total virtuoso. there are a very few people this supernaturally talented, in every aspect of music production. John Paul Jones is the only other dude I can think of who is an exceptional musician and plays about 14 different instruments at master level. I know what Prince was capable of, so when I first saw this show when it originally debuted, I lost my MIND when I figured out that they were probably gonna give him the closing solo. I'm SO glad they did. All legends on the stage, but he's clearly the one who would have done it proper justice. um...yeah. nailed it. LOL 🤘🏼🤩

I'll tell you some stories about this piece of art: - The song was in The Beatles (AKA The White Album) by The Beatles, George Harrison wrote it (his son Danny is playing an acoustic guitar) - The bearded one is Jeff Lynne from ELO = The Electric Light Orchestra - The man with the white hair is Tom Petty, he was friends with Prince Other musicians I recognise are Steve Winwood in the keyboards and Steve Ferrone on drums. Edit: I made a search and the first guitar solos are by Marc Mann (ex ELO, ex Oingo Boingo). - Prince made a sound check but not a single rehearsal. Danny was shaking legs like dancing and Petty told him to relax "He's Prince doing a solo, he never fail". - Rolling Stone magazine did another of its famous stupid lists: "100 best guitarists ever" or something like that. They let Prince out of the list. - Prince thought "OK...". - Then this happened.

Thank you for identifying the first guitar soloist. It’s been bothering me because I thought I should know him.
@tamiosburn3389
@tamiosburn3389 Жыл бұрын
It's also worth noting that Marc Mann's solo was originally Eric Clapton’s solo from the original song. It's also worth noting no one on that stage knew what Prince was going to do. Marc Mann kept "hogging" the solo during rehearsal. Prince let it slide. But you can see half way through Prince's solo Tom is grinning at him and encouraging him to just let it all go. I think that is what made it all the better. Side side note.. Prince was inducted that night as well.

@@tamiosburn3389yes, I knew all that. The White Album was at home since I was 7 or 8 y.o. Now I'm 56. While My Guitar, Julia, Back in USSR, Obladi were among of my favs as a child. As a teenager, others took place like Helter Skelter or Dear Prudence. I've came to hate While My Guitar until the day Prince turn it upside down sayin' "hey Slow Hand, look at this. Of course Petty was happy and enjoying what was happening, probably him the most. Another trivia. Ferrone said Prince was a last minute addition to the band and at one moment "he materialised there during the sound check". Windwood said to Ferrone "is that him, is that Prince?" and Ferrone wanted to say hi to himand encourage Windwood to get there and just shaking hands. Only Ferrone got to Prince and when he said "hello I'm Steve Ferrone" Prince answerd I know you wich surprises him for real. Minutes later Ferrone heard something familiar coming from stage and it was Prince smiling playing a riff from a Ferrone's own songs: well, little lie, "Schoolboy Crush" by Average White Band where he played drums before The Heartbreakers. I've been a Prince fan since the very early '80s. Seen him in concert a dozen times (and not nearly enough!). But THIS was one of his most incredible moments. Yes, he could play every instrument on that stage as good as, or better, than those playing. So he shows off with the guitar. It's like that guitar is a part of his body - he's so comfortable with it, with jazzing it up, keeping the rest of the band informed (note his looks and grins at some points - he's giving notice to the band that he's got more coming). And of course, the guitar toss at the end - where did it go? Heaven? Belongs there with him. RIP Prince. And RIP Tom Petty. Both taken way too soon, much like the person they were celebrating, George Harrison (may he also RIP).

So glad to see someone react to this amazing tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles. He wrote this song, & it was originally recorded by the Beatles. Tom Petty of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is the one with the long hair. George's son Dhani is playing acoustic guitar over Tom's left shoulder. Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is the smooth voice singing the verses. Stevie Winwood plays the keyboard. And then we have Prince, playing one of the greatest guitar solos ever. Thanks for your reaction.

"...He stands off to the side for 3 minutes and 20 seconds, lets the other guys do their thing, then comes in and owns everything. This is the musical equivalent of dunking on someone. The best part is that, while at first perturbed, you can tell by the end that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne aren't even upset about being upstaged. The story goes that Prince was late, and they didn't even want him to perform, but at the last second they relented. They all look ticked at him when he starts playing, but the best part of the video isn't just the solo, which good lord, but the fact that they can't stay mad at him. Prince is too irresistible. When he leans back, and the bodyguard catches him, you see Petty just break. He can t stay mad at him. Prince then stands up, still wailing, and looks at Petty like 'I got you, huh?' And Petty can t even fight it. He starts laughing. How could you stay mad at Prince?" The solo was totally improvised, Prince had rehearsed with the group but simply played the same solo Lynne was playing, the original solo, right after Lynne. So they had no idea what Prince was going to do.

Written by George Harrison, vocals on this by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. All 3 were part of the super group "The Traveling Wilburys" with Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. You would do well to listen to their material, 5 absolute legends. You'll never have that much star power in a group at one time ever again.

Maybe one of the advantages of not living in an ultra-capitalist country is access to education and knowledge. And I can pay for a concert ticket but never did it in a hospital.

I get goosebumps from that guitar work there, Prince was so smooth and fluid. Love this video. The song is one of my all time favorites and I could write a paper on just the guitar used in the original recording, 'Lucy'. A '63 Les Paul Std Goldtop that John Sebastian gave to Rick Derringer who had it painted red, decided he didn't like it a sold it to a shop where Eric Clapton bought it and later gave it to George Harrison. Wow! It was stolen when George was in LA recording All Things Must Pass I think and he tracked it down and got it back. So cool. Love you reactions.. Cheers.

I really like to watch people react ti this video, knowing exactly what will happen when this hurricane of a guy starts playing. Seriously I love the part where he looks at Tom Petty, like " Can I?", while Petty " Sure you can !" As an amateur musician, those silent interactions mean a lot to me, they're professionnal guitarists of the highest level, and have so much fun playing together. Besides the solo, the vocal duo between Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty sounds absolutely great. Their voices blend perfectly together. I think that if you check what they did individually, you won't get disappointed.👍 Have a nice musical travel through their music !

What a talent, and what a showman! He yeeted that guitar up to heaven because he killed it. Killed it dead. And then peaced out because he was done, exit stage right, bye bitches. And for another tasty treat, since you do probably know Jeff Lynne, look up "Everytime Mr. Blue Sky Shows Up in a Movie Montage", a video compiled by Jovi Prata, and I know you will enjoy that. Jeff Lynne is in the band Electric Light Orchestra. I'm gonna watch that next, because I love it. The thing about this performance is that ….. it would have been amazing WITHOUT Prince …….. but then Prince came in and absolutely turned it into a MASTERPIECE. What a legend man.

The blonde haired guy singing first, Mr. Tom Petty, of T.P. and the Heartbreakers, plus, member of The Travelin Willbury. Short black young guy, is Danhi Harrison, son of the lategreat George Harrison. Second guy singin to right of Tom, Jeff Lynne, singer of ELO(Electric Light Orchestra, and Traveling Wilburys. Guy left of him is Steve Winwood, I believe? To the right of Danhi Harrison will be Prince.❤❤ Epic ❤❤ Performance for George Harrison of the Beatles❤❤Legends.😅😅

❤U! Great reaction. My favorite part of this is seeing the joy and anticipation on the face of George Harrison's son moments before Prince comes in on the solo. He's so excited. And of course Prince is ridiculously exceptional.

Yes they delivered. Prince stepped WAY up on it. Yes, that part inverted with no one to love, that's me. I'm an introvert. Sometimes in life i find it easier than my years before with love given but not receiving. So, at 55 I've got a kinda lonely life, but you guys on KZfaq being me to life!! Thanks for this. Sending love from Virginia. Love your reactions and I'm a sub

I love his sly smile, he wasn't supposed to play that solo, I read that he took over the stage because he wasn't in the hall of fame

Not true. Prince was inducted the same night as George Harrison in 2004. Rolling Stone magazine had put out a list of the 100 greatest guitar players in history and Prince was not included on the list. Prince didn't make the rehersals for the song and George's son Dhani was nervous but Tom Petty told him to relax and said "its Prince he'll do fine" and this performance was what we got.

if you had been looking instead of talking... you would have seen that he didn't throw the guitar into the crowd... he threw it into the air... and it didn't come back down... lol

Watching prince play guitar is like watching Bruce Lee use nunchuks. It's a beautiful sight to see. Prince is to music what Bruce Lee is to martial arts. I know that may be a wierd comparison but you get it!🤷🏽‍♂️✊🏽
