Wow typical Lahore breakfast. Now note where u can find the best of it in Lahore. Puri (fried bread) two types available one you ate was made up of white refine wheat flour, the 2nd is like brwon in color made of read wheat flour. You can find it at new anarkali only three or four shops prepare it with red wheat flour. Nihari the best you can have is Waris Nihari and Malik Nihari both in new anarkali ask them to serve Nihari with Magaz(brain) and Nali( bone marrow). Paya(goat trotters or feet's). Do try Buffalo's Paya (buffalo trotters or feet's) with bong (beef). Nasir Bong Paya the best place for it just in front of Waris Nihari new anarkali

Okay here is a fact that even a lot of Pakistanis dont know. When Babur (the founder of the Mughal Empire) started his conquest of the Subcontinent in 1526, his army was getting sick ALOT because of the different water of the Subcontinent because they were from Central Asia, so he asked his cooks to prepare a dish from local stuff that would stop the stomach sickness of his soldiers and also fills them up for the entire day and hence came the "Nihari". The Nihari is made over a long period of time, the thickness comes from the wheat they mix in *also fills them up*, the spices toughen up their stomachs because they were here to stay and the Ghee *oil that you see on top* is actually clarified butter it sat on top of their stomachs creating a sort of layer above the water as oil is heavier than water and it kept the water down and kept them hydrated. And they ate it at the start of the day and it fueled them all the way to dinner and thats why it is still eaten as a breakfast dish to this day, its not for the modern human because we're not as active as those people but you're supposed to eat it and then basically eat dinner. Sorry it was a bit long but after watching you enjoy it so much thought i'd share this fun little fact that not a lot of people know. Cheers from Chicago which just got more 22inches of winter snow storms 3 times in 10 days so i am envying you guys and missing Lahore and Pakistan, i am originally from Sialkot about an 1hr away from Lahore.

How informative. I didn't knw this. The only think I knw about "nihari" is that the name is driven from "nihar", which mean early morning or empty stomach. Nihari was supposed to be eaten very early morning and I read about a famous writer who once invited another writer to his home in Lahore for nihari, the guest came late, around 9 or 10 am and the host served him with something else. When he inquired about nihari, he said I wasted it because it was supposed to be eaten earlier. He was sour with guest, he said there is no concept of reheating the nihari

@@s.s.m9936 ahhaha thats a funny story. Yeah i know its derived from Nahar which is an Arabic word. But yes thats how the dish originated and then they perfected it later when the Royals and the Mughal court loved the dish so much.

@s.s.m9936 3 жыл бұрын
@@faranqamar8130 🤣 Maybe it sounds funny now because I don't remember the exact details but I do remember the guest was really embarrassed because he has hurt the feeling of the host. One more thing I learned from this was that people were really serious about the food. I guess these dishes should be eaten on their appropriate times only thn they will be beneficial otherwise will just be a burden on our stomach.

That food, all of it, looks flippin' tasty. Really gets the taste buds going. Breakfast in Pakistan is tradionally/generally the main meal of the day. Men would traditionally have a good strong breakfast in the very early hours and that would see them through the working day. That tasty and obviously very healthy'ish tradion has continued to this day. Keep them coming. Good job!

THIS is not the NOT the breakfast people in Pakistan eat at home! The typical breakfast includes omelets or fried eggs with either slice bread or Paratha or Puri. What you are eating is the "breakfast" in restaurants, which is more of a brunch.

Weekdays people don't have time to go out in the morning. So we have omelet with onion and chillies with Paratha. We also add leftover curry from last night (with paratha) and a milky tea...... We have this heavy breakfast on Sundays when one of the family member goes out and brings either Halwa Puri or Paye/naan for the family who woke up after 10 due to the weekend. Some people go out to eat as well.

@@JetLagWarriors Actually, Nihari was meant to be eaten very, very late at night, say around at 2 AM to 4 AM, so it was like very late dinner for those who could stay up that late. But due to commercialization, restaurants started selling it at breakfast or lunch time as well. The word Nihari means something related to dawn." In Pakistan, breakfast varies from household to household and region to region. We always had one of these things: 1. Slice bread with butter/jam and fried or boiled egg. 2. Paratha (thick bread made with oil or butter) served with omelet or just with tea. 3. Puri (fluffy bread fried in oil). Alse served with eggs, Halwa (semolina cooked with milk and sugar), or potatoes cooked with black seeds and tomatoes. 4. Dalya (porridge). 5. Tikya (rare in Pakistani houselds) . It is hard salty bread made with whole wheat and with very little oil. Its eaten with cooked spinach or eggs. In Lahore/Punjab, they also eat "Chanay" [cooked Garbanzo Beans] with breakfast, but not so common in other parts of Pakistan.

@@JetLagWarriors yes. Those who are busy can have Nehari at other times... but Halwa Puri is strictly breakfast while Paya can stretch to lunchtime as well. Chana and egg curry and kulcha is also a popular breakfast (unless you are sensitive with IBS like some people in comment section)

@virtualone
@virtualone 3 жыл бұрын
@@fyali1632 There are so many varieties of halwas in Pakistan that are made and sold in huge quantities and some even get exported. This semolina based halwa is the simplest halwa which is available in all major cities of Pakistan. But there are lots of versions which vary from region to region. Most varieties are not even commercially sold and are only made at home. I am from Punjab and it is very popular here. We have it with Puri ( as you can see in the video ) or Naan ( a type of bread) and it's also made on special occasions like Ashura ( i am sure you know about it ) or you can just eat it plain as it is topped with some dry fruits over here. Semolina is called “Soji” or “Suji” in our language and you will find more results on youtube by using these words. And you will find a lot of variations. Apart from Semolina, the famous ones are 1 - Sohan Halwa ( origin Multan, South Punjab ) made from sprouted wheat and exported worldover. Famous brand is Hafiz Sohan Halwa. There are many variations of this halwa like DI Khan, KPK has one famous variety which seems similar to it but is different. 2 - Gajjar ka Halwa is made from carrots and is famous all over the country. It is served as a main sweet dish in weddings and special occasions during winter. 3 - Paithay ka halwa is made from a thing called Paitha ( i don’t know the english word for it ) but you can think of it as something from the pumpkin family but not pumpkin. 4 - Khajoor ka halwa is made from dates and mostly famous in Sindh and Balochistan 5 - Baisen ka halwa is made of gram flour and eggs may me. 6 - Gwadari halwa ( Gwadar, Balochistan) this (or one of its variant) one is famous even in africa and i think is made of wheat flour 7 - Habshi halwa is made from sprouted wheat and is famous in Karachi and the region close by. 8 - Dal ka halwa is made from split gram and is available in all famous cities during winter. 9 - Bread ka halwa is made from bread and i don’t think it is commercially available. And many more ... Some even look like halwa but a not called halwa (i think) example being the “Dhoodha” from Khushab, Punjab region. Again very famous sweet and commercially sold.. Tahini is not popular here and it is not consumed that much. And Helvası Turkish seems the same as our semolina halwa, just its consistency is different. The ingredients and method seem the same to me. I hope i have provided some insight about famous halwa varieties available in Pakistan. And as you can see some of them are made of different base ingredients other than wheat.
