Ateez lore is based on the multiverse theory. Our Ateez are from universe A, initially just regular high school kids. Then one day they got pulled into universe Z by their counterparts we call Halateez. That happens in the Fever album series and continues in The World. You're now watching the Treasure series MVs, that's like a preview or a teaser mixed with some backstory and worldbuilding. It's made like that on purpose to make fans engage, make up theories, connect dots. The "proper" plot starts in the Fever series prologue Diary Film. Then you'll be able to come back to the Say My Name MV and find where it matches (spoiler, Yeosang in the glass prison doesn't happen until 2021). This whole comeback (including the absolutely brilliant jacket photoshoots) was made in a way that made everyone think that Halateez are villains, it took until the series finale, Answer, for us to find out they aren't 🙃 Make sure you watch some live stages of both but especially Hala Hala. Watching it at a concert is honestly a life changing experience :)

At the end of HalaHala, fitting the suicide squad lyrics, they break their own necks. San is the center during the ending dance break and he fairly regularly breaks his mic.

You can hear the melody of treasure at the end of the say my name music video because say my name is a prequel to treasure and pirate king.

9:19 so to find out how Yeosang got out of the box you need to watch their Kingdom performance of Answer: Ode to Joy (if you want to react to it you probably need to blur it or distort it as Mnet can and will copyright claim it). To answer your question on whether or not they are pirates yes they are just wait for Illusion. 14:22 Atinys are still debating whether or not Wooyoung killed them or something. The Ateez wearing the black outfits were called Halateez because they were introduced with Hala Hala even if it isn’t the name that they go by in lore. If you want to know more you should check out the diary’s (lore stories) from their albums, as an Atiny has posted all of the ones available onto KZfaq.
