Most people might not know this, but many fans of the Warhammer 40k Universe consider this movie as a kind of spiritual-prequel to the story because of how this movie touches on the insanity brought about by the Warp. There was actually a lot of footage that was cut from the film having to do with the ship being in hell. A lot of it was very sadomasochistic and super graphic. Studio execs were horrified when they saw it so they made them cut a lot of it out. On top of that, there is about 30 minutes of other footage that was cut because according to test audiences the movie was too long, so they made additional cuts. Unfortunately, due to the release schedule which couldn't be changed, they didn't have time to properly edit what turned out to be the theatrical cut, which is why it seems to jump around a bit and some things aren't fully explained or fleshed out (no pun intended). Lots of folks have wanted a director's cut of this movie, but a lot of the original negatives have either been lost or destroyed, so it will likely never happen. All in all it's a good horror flick, but it could have been so much more.

When Joey was in the airlock the atmosphere was being removed, placing him in a vaccuum. When the bridge window was shot out all of the atmosphere in the forward section of the ship was being sucked out but there was still enough to breathe for as long as it was rushing. If it had slowed down, that would've put them in the same situation as Joey.

Give me just about any other spaceship from any other franchise than the _Event Horizon._

Yea there was a lot of intentional religious imagery in the design, if you look at the wall pillars it's really reminiscent of something you would see in a temple. Though I image being on a 40k spaceship would suck much more lol, given that this movie was heavily inspired by that.

A little more accurately but still with significant liberties. Blowing out the air in your lungs while in a vacuum was correct. It prevents rupturing your lungs As well as surviving the small amount of time he spent exposed. However there wouldn’t be as much blood or damage to the eyes and skin. Your body is tough enough to handle a 1 atm decompression. With maybe only some small under the skin bleeding from capillaries near the surface. There was guy who was accidentally exposed to vacuum during spacesuit testing in a vac chamber. He passed out after 15 seconds and was revived about 90 seconds later without lasting harm. He said he could feel the saliva boiling on his tongue in the low pressure before passing out. 2001 and The Expanse still do the best job of showing vacuum exposure.

Not sure if it's true but the internet does have the claim that Barker was tapped as a consultant and that Hellraiser was used as inspiration. Also, I do enjoy pointing out that Sean Pertwee, the actor that played Smith in this (who found the explosive on the Lewis & Clark) was Alfred in the Gotham TV series and is the son of the actor that played the 3rd Doctor in Doctor Who.

Should we make artificial black holes.... lol, and she says neh we shouldn't mess with it. Guess it may not be the best time to tell you they already are making/causing micro black holes to form with some of the stuff they are doing with the large Hadron Collider (particle accelerator) at CERN. Based on the limited stuff I know they blink out of existence essentially at the same moment they are created, so I guess we all get to live until someone makes a mistake. Great Reaction, btw! One of my favorite movies in this genre. Since she received Sam Neill so well in this you guys should watch In the Mouth of Madness. Another great movie.

Some films require no sequel. ET for example. Or Galaxy Quest. Event Horizon requires no sequel. I get off showing this one to first timers. The first time watching this, the ships log sequence had me way down in my seat, looking away. It takes a lot for this reaction. Event Horizon scared me with set design, music and ideas. Peters hearing that scratching sound and then we see what is causing the scratching sound. Then we find out it's her son with rotting legs. This movie got in my head and I loved it. Watch the end credits with headphones.

In the air lock there was only a small amount of atmosphere and by opening the door 'correctly' the ship sucks the air from the room. Very controlled and orderly. When Weir shoots out the window, the air is pusing out into space. The entire atmosphere of the ship is forcing itself out so as long as their is atmosphere behind them, the air around tthem wont drop in pressure too quickly. The first people at risk of injury are those sucked out or those people furthest from the breach.

awww, kinda sad she missed that hilarious line delivery: "[click] ... We're leaving." lol but daaaamn, hats off to Mrs. for getting through this one! the flashes of gore still startle me after so many times seeing this movie. EDIT: something I love about Sam Neil is, apart from Alan Grant, he usually plays pretty diabolical villains. He played Damien, the antichrist in one of the sequels to The Omen, he's Weir in this, he's a ruthless g-man in Memoirs of an Invisible Man, and a few others I think. but in real life? he's got this enormous gorgeous plot of land in New Zealand where he makes his own wine and ranches with a ton of adorable furry critters he owns. his twitter is basically nothign but him being so wholesome and adorable in his massive garden with lambs and bunnies. I get that actors... ACT. but it's just such a funny juxtaposition to his roles, especially THIS one lol

4:39 One thing I've never noticed when watching this movie before. All the football players taped to the wall are from the '80s & '90s (Joe Montana top middle & Barry Sanders bottom right are really obvious). This would make zero sense for a crew born after all these guys had retired.

This movie scared the hell out of me and my family when we saw this! There is an hour of deleted scenes, gory bloodier footage, that will never see the light of day, as it was found in a Transylvania salt mine, which was shown to have disintegrated after 20 years, unfortunately.

Rented this way back in high school shortly after it came out. Thought it was a cool sci-fi space adventure sort of thing. The box was slightly misleading. Nearly shit myself 4 or 5 times at least. Broad daylight no less. This is such an effective horror film. Deeply underrated with an awesome cult following. And it could have been 100x scarier. This is Cosmic horror done extremely well. Lovecraftian in every way. Random jump scares throughout that aren't anything so that the ones that are real still catch you off guard. The soundtrack is perfect. The ship is one of the coolest and simultaneously mean acing looking ships ever.
