"It should be a mini-series." It is one! In fact, the answer to the question "Which adaptation of Dune is the closest to the books?" The answer is the Syfy Miniseries Dune and Dune Messiah!

Wendy is in no way a pathetic character. As someone who grew up being physically abused, and later on emotionally abused, Wendy's reaction to Jack is 100% valid. You WOULD be like Wendy, especially when it involved someone you loved and thought you knew.

Chani knew the whole time that she would never marry Paul. She also knew he would be faithful to her and she would be the only woman to have his kids. The marriage to Irulan was for status alone and Paul never sleeps with her. The most book accurate version is the 2000 SyFy channel Dune.

While I don't think Christopher Walken was maybe the best choice for emperor, he was also the best choice for emperor. For the simple matter that he was in the music video for Fatboy Slim's - Weapon of Choice, which of course refers to Dune.

24:10 I watched this in IMAX when it first came out. I'll never forget this moment. The whole theater was enjoying finally seeing Godzilla doing what he does best, destroying stuff. There were some cheers because we were finally about to see this version of his atomic breath. The moment it EXPLODED, the entire theater had the same reaction you two did. The fact that this version is quite literally a nuclear explosion shocked us all into silence. Not a single sound came out of the entire audience until the next scene. That moment was the single most impactful thing I've ever experienced from a Godzilla movie. A friend of mine got to see this movie in Japan a month before the US premiere. He told me several audience members cried at this scene.

Even worse than the first part, which was already a disappointment to me. Part 2 was so choppy that I could barely stand to watch it. Both parts were so overwraught trying to hit all the beats of the story that the characters weren’t given time to breathe so that we could see them develop and change naturally. As a result I felt nothing for the characters. Even the Lynch version, in one movie, managed to give me characters that I cared about. Even with its flaws, the SYFY miniseries was far superior to this and remains the better film. I highly recommend that you watch it.

My only complaint with this movie was the casting. Timothee Chalamet is a fine actor. But for a 30 yr old man he looks very much like a boy. And seeing Javier Bardem's and Josh Brolin's characters defer to him just did not work for me. And I know Kyle MacLachlan looked young in 1984 but for whatever reason every time Timothee Chalamet screams at people, I'm seeing petulant teen and not powerful leader. Likewise, Zendaya is a beautiful woman who is also almost 30 yrs old. But while Sean Young looked feminine and beautiful in her stillsuit, Zendaya looks like a 12 yr old boy. The stillsuit did not work for Zendaya, her hair made her look boyish and she had this angsty teen look on her face which the director should have fixed. And her disagreement with Paul doesn't make her look powerful but rather it makes her look like a spoiled brat. It's not pretty. It's not sexy. It's not feminine. And that made the intimate scenes even more uncomfortable because I kept thinking I was watching a remake of Call Me By Your Name with two young boys. Zendaya should really fire her agent for not stepping in and doing something because this movie does not allow her beauty and her femininity to come though at all.

My biggest issue with this movie is how they completely just zoomed past Paul’s awakening and made it so… lacking of impact or profoundness. It’s a big deal and they just treated it so casually, which is disappointing because I was looking forward to that, and seeing other peoples reaction to it. I don’t mind them changing some things from the book, I thought most of it was very well done. I’m interested to see what they do with Chani since she and Paul never had the talk they did in the book and she’s outta there, but Paul did say she will come around eventually so maybe it’s just a more realistic emotional reaction to your lover jumping into a political marriage.

The problem with the 2 new Dune movies is that it's Actor focused and not the original story. How will the Director recast the actors so that they're much older as the next movie is a couple of decades later. Will ppl have to wait a couple of decades before making the 3rd movie?

I think the reason they don't use the lasers immediately against the harvesters is because of the thopter. If they fired them first, the thopters would find them and kill them before they could do much. They take out the thopter and now the lasers are free to take out the harvesters.

there were 2 series that covered roughly 2.5 books worth of info done by SyFy back in the early 2000s, it is honestly the closest book translation that was done those are Frank Herbert's Dune (2000) and Frank Herbert's Children of Dune (2002) they don't have the effects budget that these movies have, but they are worth checking out and would love to see you guys react to those also

lasers don't work on shields..... "only the slow blade penetrates the shield"..... shields can't be used on the surface of Arrakis because it sends worms into a killing frenzy..... harvesters action attracts worms but not as quick as a shield would. ornithopters in air are ok. using lasers on the harvesters would alert the ornithopter to the lasers position for a quick blast from their guns..... harvesters are unarmed and eventually eaten by worms if not picked up.
