This movie is top 10 in the MCU for sure! It balanced action, drama and humor better than any other film. Plus that killer sountrack!! And the characters were such a breath of fresh air, being largely unknown to non-comic book readers. And it was cool seeing the MCU expand its storytelling to places beyond Earth.

My cousin asked me once what my top 10 MCU/MCU Adjacent movies were (adjacent such as things like the "Blade" trilogy, since there was news that the character might show up in the MCU someday and certain other superheroes that may or may not have shown up in the MCU, no spoilers by saying which ones). So, I actually made a full list. I haven't seen the most recent 3 or 4 MCU films yet, so it's not complete, but out of the 29 on my list, Guardians ranked 12th. Which might sound low, but seriously, there are so many MCU movies that were _so good_ (in my opinion) that even 12th puts this in a great group of movies (the original Avengers being #11). I know some people are kind of over the MCU at this point. I have enjoyed every movie and series in it at least enough to consider it a net positive experience, even the very last movie in my ranking. Disclaimer though, I am not a comic book reader, so there were some movies my dad, an avid comic book nerd, was absolutely fuming about that I thought were fine as someone who didn't know the source material.

@@BubblyRainbows unfortunately, some longtime comic book readers have been very upset at changes in the MCU, which I find rather odd, because it never attempted to faithfully follow source material, even back in Phase 1. The MCU was always an alternate universe wirh different (sometimes very different) history and lore from the comics. So after 12 years worth of movies I'd think comic book readers would know that, and simply accept it for what it is... a different reality. I also found every MCU release entertaining enough to be considered a net positive experience for me, even the weakest ones.

@@neospock5034 I know a lot about the "original" comics and the characters and their story lines. And I've never had a problem with any of the changes made in the MCU (well, maybe with a few very minor exceptions). Most of the changes to characters have been improvements, IMO. Let's face it: some of the story/character decisions made in the comics were stupid. And no matter what you do, when translating decades worth of comics into just a few movies for each character, something's gotta give. It's impossible to keep everything the same. I was going to give a few examples, but I won't because spoilers. But I'll give these non-spoiler opinions: Tony Stark and Drax and many of the supporting characters have far more personality in the movies than they ever did in the comics.

The dog is Cosmo, who is based on a real-life dog sent into space as part of the soviet space program. Marvel adapted it into a fun character in the comics and finally here in this movie as a fun Easter egg.

"That's actually really sad. That came from his soul." Yes it is, and yes it did. At this point, you have no idea... So glad that you talked about the character development, Kay. The MCU is always at its best when it builds up characters, and makes them come to life. And this trilogy by James Gunn is one of the best in Marvel. In the first movie alone, he's succeeded in taking a group of almost unknown space-faring characters, and making us care about them to the point that the loss of one hurts us terribly. And there's so much more amazing storytelling to come. Stay tuned, and don't forget those tissues!

Honestly, this was the first MCU film that I thought was truly great from start to finish. Some of the earlier ones were really good, some were okay, but this one was (and still is) a perfect combination of action, heart, drama, comedy, etc., etc.. It never gets old.

Peter Quill's character growth: Peter never felt worthy to open the gift from his mother because he never took her hand when she asked him. At the end battle, he got his redemption by taking Gamora's hand when she asked. Only then did he feel that he earned the right to open his mother's last gift.

Fun Fact: when Quill dropped the orb, then picked it back up was an actual, unplanned accident. Since Pratt stayed in character, and recovered, Gunn left the flub in the film. The quote about "12% of a plan" goes back to the first Avengers movies, when Tony accorded 12% credit to Pepper for building Stark Tower. It's not obvious, but Yondu has a weakness for Troll dolls. He collects them. At the end, the duck is Howard the Duck, who was actually in a live action movie in the 80s. The pooch is Laika the space dog. She (male in the comics, female in the MCU) has telepathy & telekinesis.

Great reaction! 😊 This is my second favorite movie in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy. This is such a great movie! Great cast! We get to see the Guardians meeting and becoming a team for the first time. And you get to meet Thanos. 2:55 You are correct! These movie have the best soundtracks. Iron Man soundtrack comes in a close second. 19:09 - 19:28 I always like this history of the Infinity Stone scene. 37:29 The duck that was in that end credit scene with the Collector(and the dog whose name is Cosmo) was Howard the Duck. There's an early Marvel movie from 1986 called "Howard the Duck" which I recommend just for fun. Next up in the MCU: "Avengers: Age of Ultron". And I'm so excited for "Star Wars: A New Hope" coming soon. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

1:25 - This opening was a complete NIGHTMARE for me and my ex. Her niece had died from leukemia just a few months before, so seeing this was EXTREMELY rough! 😥 2:45 - Of course, after ripping everyone's hearts out, they have this jaunty scene. Way to be incongruous, Marvel, and thanks. 👍 9:09 - TRIVIA: This alien is voiced by Nathan Fillion. If you don't know who that is, watch "Firefly" or "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog." 12:54 - As an amputee, I think it *IS* messed up. 😁 13:39 - Is it, though? 30,000 units could equal $1.00 on Earth. You don't know. 😛 (My leg, which is for a BKA, cost just shy of $8,000 at the time my insurance paid for it. It's value on a secondary market is between $150 to $300. Why such a disparity between prices? Because this leg was made for me, and ONLY me. It holds no real value for anyone else.) 14:52 - TRIVIA: "Keep the Milano nearby." Peter's ship is named after actress Alyssa Milano, who would have been 16 and starring in the TV sitcom "Who's the Boss?" when he was kidnapped from Earth. She would have been perfect for some kid to have a celebrity crush on, so it tracks that he'd honor her by naming his ship after her. 15:00 - For the record, the song "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" has a horrible premise. It's about a guy looking to cheat on his S.O. by hooking up with someone by way of the personal ads in a newspaper. It's pure chance that the person looking to hook up turns out to be his S.O. I mean, they were BOTH planning to cheat! How is this song seen as romantic?!? 🤨🤔🤨 15:36 - Make this rule, Kaylee: *If it's a Disney film, have tissues.* Tape it to your mic so you don't forget. 😉 (MCU is Disney, on the off chance you didn't know.) 16:46 - TRIVIA: That's supposed to be the corpse of a Celestial, impossibly powerful beings scattered throughout Marvel comics. For all of my comic-reading when I was a kid, I never read a story involving them. They're essentially deities. 18:27 - "Pelvic sorcery" is an amazing pairing of words. 🤣 18:57 - TRIVIA: The "space dog," as you called her, is Cosmo, a telepathic/telekinetic doggo... and she is good dog, Give treats. ♥ (That last line is for me. If it makes you smile, then it's done its job for everyone involved.) 23:59 - Did you...? Did you just Chloé Bourgeois the Guardians of the Galaxy? 😲 29:28 - TRIVIA: In the comics, Yondu used whistling to control his arrows, but a bow was involved. I think removing the bow makes for a more interesting visual. 36:53 - I'll bet you're amazing on karaoke night! Seriously, Kaylee. Lovely voice! ♥ And knowing Jackson 5 lyrics?!? Would you consider a marriage proposal too forward? 😁🤪 (It's a joke, people. A joke!) 37:38 - TRIVIA: This is Howard the Duck, interdimensional wiseass and master of Quack-Fu! (No, that's NOT a joke.)

Oh hey "Cliffhanger" with Stallone, his character isn't a heel. I'd say part of why he gets the heel roles is his voice and accent typecasting him though.

Back when this movie released, most of us had no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy are. You’ll get to know them better over the course of the MCU like we did. A fun fact: aside from English, Vin Diesel voiced Groot in 15 other languages for this movie. For example, in Spanish he says “Yo soy Groot.” Sean Gunn, the actor who portrays Yondu’s right-hand man Kraglin, is brother of the movie’s director James Gunn. I’m letting you know this ahead of time: Volume 2 has not one not two but FIVE post-credit scenes total. Some reactors have skipped them by accident. All I can say right now is that you won’t wanna miss them.

Fun fact: Howard the Duck (the character from the post-credit scene) was actually the first Marvel character to get his own movie, in 1986. There had been serials and TV shows based on Marvel properties, but not a live-action theatrical release. Don't go looking for the movie, though. It's terrible.

@@cjames4478 Nope, it's spelled serials. It refers to a pre-television form of film, a series of short films exhibited in consecutive order at one theater. It was quite common in the first half of the 20th century.

Just a little question... will you look at every project and make your own opinion or just the ones that were "well received" by the fans? because I would like to see your opinion on the "not so good" projects.

This movie made you cry that much? You are not prepared for future MCU movies. I won't say which ones or which parts but you'll get to them eventually!
