For the songwriting, she do have a producer. The guitarist here, Taku Inoue, is her producer. Inotaku-san is a famous Japanese producer, and he formed a mini orchestra called "Midnight Grand Orchestra" with Suisei as the vocalist. Suisei writes all of the lyrics for her songs. In the past, she produced her own music for quite some time. As for how she performed in The First Take, she's actually there with a motion capture suit. For concerts, she will appear in her 3D avatar / hologram projection. And for her "character", she own it herself. It's a quite long history, but Suisei will always be "Suisei", because it's not owned by the agency she's currently working with.
@daedalron
@daedalron Жыл бұрын
She's a rarity to own her avatar. Usually, when you enter an agency, they choose a character for you and you are forced to take it. That's also the deal Suisei was given when they offered to take her in an agency, to abandon her character and start anew with a character given by the agency. But Suisei refused that deal, and finally was allowed in with her self-created character.

Live concerts are usually done in large screens. For overseas and online viewers some of their concerts us AR technology to make it appear that she is on stage. Regarding Clothes all of of the image is superimposed on the body of the artists. They use a combination of face tracking and model tracking in real time. For the Song itself. The lyrics was done by Hoshimachi Suisei and was composed by Taku Inoue, the guitarist in this video. If your familiar with Tekken 7, Taku Inoue composed some of the game's bgm. In Suisei's case, the initial model and design of her character was made by herself since she started as an independent artist in 2018. Nothing has been revealed though if there are any changes to the rights since she was accepted into Hololive.

Nice reaction! I would really recommend listening to the original as well because the instrumentals a bit different, (still liked this one tho). And btw Suisei was actually there, It's not animation but it's mocap. The simplest explanation I could think of is that It's pretty much like playing VR with mocap(motion capture).

For the companies trying to change the talent behind the character, some companies tried it in the past, but fans will know and the backlash is hugh, so they don´t do this any more, at least in Japan. A famous exemple was Kizuna Ai when they decided to put various girls behind the avatar to do different things.
@daedalron

Given how the technology of avatars evolved, it's now possible to discover when someone else is "possessing" the avatar instead of the usual person. The little facial mimics, the way they move, ... When you're used to a person, you can feel those things if they're changed.

8:40 Hololive Productions, the vtuber agency behind Suisei, has actually done several live concerts for few years now, with the 4th company-wide concert happening in March (Here's a small sample from last year's featuring talents from the English branch kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdSYhpBet63bpnk.html ). Suisei herself has done one solo concert already and is about to have one later this month to coincide her upcoming album. And to clarify, these performances aren't animations made by an animator, the talents are using motion capture in 3D studios,; they pilot their virtual personas with their own dancing, singing, and whatnot. You mentioned one small bit if it's possible to replace the actor behind the avatars, it absolutely is not: Hololive talents before they perform on stage are day-to-day youtube streamers who play games and talk to chat, so fans are very much part of the journey of each talent. Suisei's journey is very unique even in Hololive since she started out as independent.

Fun fact: there used to be a Vtuber agency named Game-bu (basically means game club) and they did actually replace the people behind the avatars, and there was MASSIVE backlash. So even IF Cover had ever considered doing so, we have pretty good precedent for why it would be a bad idea xD

Thanks for the reaction, it was enjoyable!!! I would say that having a virtual avatar doesn't automatically mean the artist is shy, although the increased privacy and greater freedom of expression are certainly benefits. In terms of someone else replacing the artist, although theoretically possible in practical terms it is near impossible at least regarding Hololive members. Because the members hold gaming and chatting streams regularly, they interact a lot with their fanbase and other members so any switch of person behind the avatar would be noticed almost at once by the fanbase. Something similar was tried with one of the OG Vtubers Kizuna AI where they tried adding different people to clones of her model as an experiment but people realized quickly and it sparked a backlash. In terms of other Hololive members, there are over 50 most of whom sing really well but among them I'd personally recommend Kanata, Towa, Baelz, Moona, Watame and Risu voice wise. An example of what an online concert looks like, as well as a display of Kanata's voice would be a clip from her recent concert where she covered Unravel here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o519qLiSyam6aWQ.html

First, I enjoyed your reaction to my girl SuiSui. I will say, assuming they're shy just because they're using a 2d/3d model isn't really fair. For instance, Suisei is contractually obligated to keep her identity secret for her own safety and that of her peers. She isn't the least bit shy. Some use vtuber models for the anonymity, some use it just for the aesthetics. One vtuber in particular uses her vtuber persona as a social outlet because she has immune deficiency and can't physically interact with people or leave her home without insane preparation and precautions. She's stuck in her home and doesn't want people to see breathing tubes on her face etc. She wants to be treated normally, so she hides that stuff with her model. I encourage you to catch a few vtuber livestreams just to educate yourself about the rabbit hole that is vtubing! You may get stuck in it! 😆

The charecter Hoshimachi Suisei was created by herself. She was an independent Vtuber then join the agency. She own her character, also they'll never replace the voice since the characters and the voice is a tight bond plus there were already a backlash when one company try to replace one Vtuber voice.

Suisei owns her character, unlike the rest of Hololive, so it is legally not even possible to replace her. They wouldn't do that anyway as the backlash would be huge.

0:56 It's true for many artists... but I was still surprised to hear the point "VTuber avatars encourages shy artists" when the example is Suisei. She once mentioned dreaming of becoming a live performing idol singer (think AKB48 and any K-Pop star), thus avidly auditioned for different idol companies (getting rejected for every single one) before finally been accepted by the *ahem "Idol" VTuber agency she is in now (after been rejected once). She is indeed very talented in singing and drawing, edited her own music videos, created her own Live2D VTuber model from scratch... However, when presented in a résumé, idol businesses gave her the reason "We want you to focus on only one field" before rejecting her...

speaking of concerts, the most basic format is using a screen to show the vtuber. this format was started initially by vocaloid sensations such as hatsune miku. nijisanji and granblue fantasy are the 2 groups i know who first used augmented reality technology for their concerts. hololive has started using AR tech last year. Kaf performed at the giant venue Budoukan using 2 big screens and 2 closeup screens on the sides.

It's also a nice way to be famous in 1 space but also anonymous in real life. Alot of famous people sometimes wish they were not bothered or stalked. Considering the vtubers talk or chat directly with fans, some get unhealthy attached. So it's both a safety and a thing for they to live a normal life in reality

Suisei's case is special, because she own the character / IP before she joined Hololive. So Hololive management cannot mess with her character, and even if.. let's say that Hololive fired her, all she lost would be the Live 2D / 3D Model of her character made by Hololive, but she can keep her identity as Hoshimachi Suisei, and just make a new model by herself to be independent artist.

HoloLive doesn't continue the character after the talent leaves. Other companies have tried that, but HoloLive retires the character at the same time as the talent. Suisei is a rare case too, because she personally made her character model, so she owns it.
@Nabekukka

Yeah no, replacing the talent behind the character will not fly. It was tried with Kizuna Ai and the fans reacted really badly almost immediately, and it was made really clear at that point that it simply won't be tolerated. All the talents behind the character models have such a distinct personality that it simply cannot be replicated even if they happen to find someone that sounds exactly like the original.
@megamage911
@megamage911 Жыл бұрын
Just want to add, Kizuna Ai herself confirmed that she was never replaced, that was just a rumour that went wildly out of control. A vtuber agency that ACTUALLY went and did this was Game-bu, and it's one of the main reasons they son't exist anymore... Well, also the fact that their staff treated the talents like shit.

examples of Live concerts for Vtubers . look at Vocaloid live concerts they have been doing that for decades now. and hololive can do that. as for how they put the 3D model in there i nthe video, it's either the IRL Suisei is there and wearing a mocap green suit so they can composit the avatar in the editing or some god tier video editing. they did this same thing on mori calliope on Trash Taste podcast. First take has to probably sign a Hefty NDA.

Oh they still do live concerts using their avatars. Full 3D motion tracking is how. You basically not only have a crew for the audio/music, there's another for the motion capture and everything attached to that performance. VTubers have been doing it for a while now. And prolly the biggest VTuber concert so far was by Hololive (under Cover Corp.), the group Suisei is in. It's honestly amazing. Keywords are "Hololive 3rd Fes" if you're curious and want to look it up on KZfaq. There's a few previews/sneak peeks of that concert. It was a 2-day event with an expo and a concert each day. They've done something similar twice now but that 3rd Fes in 2022 was huge in comparison to the previous ones. Bought the ticket to watch it digitally and man, I wish I was there in person. Cover Corp. was a small company that set out to make a virtual idol group doing big concerts and by God they are actually pulling it off. We even have our first VTuber on The First Take now.

As I'm sure enough people have commented on the topic of a "face reveal", I'll just add that as a recommendation to check out her song GHOST, as while its an amazing song in it's own, its a song that reflects her thoughts on that mater. People will see her sing and tend wonder who the person is behind her as if she was a ghost, but Suisei is simply herself just trying to be heard. Personally speaking, I don't mind the whole vtuber deal as its simply just an avatar for her identity. She's done more than enough content outside of simply singing to know who she is as an artist and as a person that I feel like trying to pry into what she looks like is just feels unnecessary, as if the physical person would be different from the person behind the mic. I don't think you really need to see a person's face to fully understand the emotions in the voice and the impact of her art. Suisei is simply Suisei, and I think that's a perfectly fine way to go about it.

While some of the V-tubers are shy, a lot of them were well known personalities. Who decided to drop their previous successful channels and start a new as V-tubers. Because avatar allows for insane amount of creative freedom and being what you want to be. The potential of roleplaying is insane for this type of media. Girls from Hololive are insanely talanted in each their chosen field but they also play games, sing, draw, goof around together and a lot more. But Suisei if special even for Hololive, she is a living cheat code, a person insanely talented in so many fields from singing to 3d modeling. And that is why they send her to be the first.

She has done concerts, feel free to look her up. You can see some of them. She is in essentially a full motion capture suit, singing there. They then use computer tech to replace her with the avatar. Also hard to say what her contract is now, but she started out by paying for her own model and career. But it wasn't moving forward so she joined a production company. She has had to overcome a lot of stuff to get where she is. She has multiple albums, concerts and over 1.7mil subs.

Oddly enough, a good comparison about how these characters and talents are handled is professional wrestling. The talent plays the character in public events and the like, but the character itself is usually owned by the production company; that's not the case with Suisei, though. If a talent wished to stop being a Vtuber as that character, then that character "graduates" (aka is retired) much like when someone leaves an idol group. What happens to their channel is usually discussed between the talent and the agency. Reasons for leaving can range from it wasn't what the talent expected/ they weren't getting what they wanted, to a talent deciding that unwarranted pressure from an ugly side of fandom is making it unpleasant to do, to breach of contract. Some talent stop vtubing completely, while others create a new character and join another group.

for the motion tracking stuff, usually they use a full body suit, but because the first take partnered with sony they might use mocopi as their tracking hardware (basically an airtag that tracks your body, limbs and torso). and once theyre done with the recording they will just put the model and "animate" it using the data from mocopi mocopi : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdx4e9OjxtKndGw.html [title : モバイルモーションキャプチャー:可能性、無限大。ちいさくて、かるい、モバイルモーションキャプチャー mocopi(モコピ)【ソニー公式】] and for the "the person behind it could be replaced and we would never know", well nowadays whenever someone quits vtubing under that name, the model that was associated with the name also got retired so nobody can use it anymore. and you as the person behind it cannot/ should not blatantly states that you were the person behind the model unless the company gives you the greenlight, for example we have nozomi kasuga that did a reveal sometime ago that she was the person behind a vtuber called kizuna ai kasuga nozomi : www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2020/04/24-1/the-first-kizuna-ai-has-been-revealedand-shes-back-to-advise-the-vtubers-new-company (she purged her personal youtube channel so i cant link it) kasuga nozomi twitter : twitter.com/kasuga_nozomi for suisei i think its safe to say unless there is a major doxxing incident her personal ID will stay safe and whenever she retires the model will also be retired and for the concert here is an example from last years concert : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNGIqbqnub7Dcnk.html [title : hololive 3rd fes. Link Your Wish day 1] this comment will probably get purged soon since YT hates links

and for suisei, she is pretty unique since before joining hololive she created her own model (yes she draws and then rigged the model herself using live2d) so on the 1 in the million chance that suisei quits hololive but still wants to do vtubing she might still have some right to the model (it might be limited to her old model tho, since the current one is given by the company) so the model wont be retired completely

Hoshimachi Suisei is not shy by any means. Some people just can not get a break through to be performers in their real life persona. In Suisei's case, Vtubing became her alternative after many auditions to be an idol only to be rejected for being TOO STELLAR in many things.(jack of all trades)
@TheFluke32
@TheFluke32 Жыл бұрын
If anyone wonders why being too good at many things is a bad thing, in Japan, idols of idol groups are trained to have at most 1 or 2 good trait to be their signature appeal. So you can say, "ah, this person is the dancer of the group" or "ah, this is the prettiest", etc. Apparently, Suisei checked too many boxes... She stood out in too many ways that idol companies think she might overshadow any other performer she would be grouped with.

Artists hiding their face isn't that new. Among big names, we have Daft Punk for example, who never revealed their faces. Now with the advance of technology, vtubing offer a way for the artist to still show a part of themselves, with the animations of the avatar showing how they're acting / feeling, while still keeping their identity hidden.
