Fun Fact, Ryan Stiles from Who's Line was also in the First Hot Shots movie. He was the Co-Pilot of Topper's Dad in the crashing plane.

Fun fact: Richard Crenna originally hesitated to take part in this movie because it parodies Rambo franchise. Sylvester Stallone encourages him to take part in this movie and have fun.

Was in the military in the 90s. The first Hot Shots was played on my ship's TV station. One of my favorite memories was working a long day on the flight deck and then seeing the parody of the flight deck on that movie. We were all exhausted and laughing our butts off at the surreal moment of watching our day turned into comedic spoof. Was the best ending of a work day ever.

I went and saw this movie in the theaters when it came out. They accidentally put the film in upside down and the whole theater thought it was just a gag in film that the first part was played that way. They finally fixed it for us, but I always thought was hilarious.

The opening cage fight scene was straight out of Rambo 3. The president puking was a reference to when George H.W. Bush puked on the Japanese Prime Minister. My favorite scenes were Topper brushing his hair, and Topper cheering up the team member who was getting emotional.

I would second this. It is a great movie that does not get enough love. Everytime i see it, it makes me think of my Dad, his brothers and the stories they would tell about their life. They were all firm believers in never letting the truth get in the way of a good story, but there was always a grain of truth to it. As was said "They really lived."

There´s a lot of movie parodies here, focusing on Rambo of course. The bed scene it´s from Basic instinct, for instance. or Terminator 2 when Sadam is freezed.

The "Hot Shots" films followed in the same vein as "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun". They were meant to be silly and nonsensical. I haven't seen all your reactions, but I really hope that you've watched "Airplane". Great job on this one! 👍

I lost count of how many movies they were making fun of. They were parodying the movies from the early 90s, 80s, and 70s. They pretty much did the Rambo movies parody, more of Rambo 3 in this one.

I've watched most of the Abrahams-Zucker-Zucker films like this (Airplane!, Top Secret, Naked Gun, etc), and Abrahams direced this by himself. I think with his movies, he has a tendency to not let the story breathe as much, and throw every joke he can at the screen. It leads to an uneven pace at times, and I think it just wears you you faster because he seems to think he needs a joke every few minutes.

why gross humor, because us 80's and early 90's people loved the gross stuff. why the leader is filmed as a dumb one, some presidents have been considered pretty dumb. so Hollywood played that up more.
